Its neu by Cycle & Carriage lifestyle concept store brings to visitors its “Electrifying The Future” idea, focusing on the notion of sustainable mobility with Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles.Electryfing The Future_Cycle & Carriage_neu Concept Store

This is in line with the brand’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy to reduce its carbon footprint, and also to create exceptional and sustainable journeys for its customers. Currently, one of Cycle & Carriage’s steps towards electrification and sustainability includes the installation of photovoltaic systems in 6 of its locations i.e. Petaling Jaya, Mutiara Damansara, Batu Caves, Ipoh, Johor Bahru and Bukit Tengah, to harness solar energy which is a renewable resource. This system will offer a total capacity of 631 kWp which would supply about 20% of their buildings’ electricity needs.

EV Wave_Charging Station_Cycle & Carriage_neu Concept StoreThis month (August), the neu lifestyle concept store will be featuring Cycle & Carriage’s green energy partners to offer the public the opportunity to truly experience what it means to live sustainably for the benefit of future generations. Some of these strategic partners who will showcase and educate about renewable energy include Dawn Breeze, a green energy solutions provider specialising in solar renewable energy, as well as Energreen-Tech which specialises in energy management services, EV charging solutions, second life EV batteries and GreenTech Lab Services.

To further augment the theme of electrification, fans of Mercedes-Benz and shoppers alike can walk into the store to get up close and personal with the latest vehicles from Mercedes-Benz. This includes a wide range of Mercedes-EQ vehicles which will be on display throughout the month, i.e. the EQA 250 AMG Line, the newly launched EQS 450+, and soon-to-be-launched EQB 350 4MATIC and EQC 400 4MATIC.

For its valued customers, Cycle & Carriage also organised a Mercedes-Benz Discovery programme on 6 August. 60 customers attended this workshop to get to know their cars better and to familiarise themselves with the brand’s aftersales service offerings. The workshop was conducted by product experts from both Cycle & Carriage and Mercedes-Benz Malaysia for customers to gain a deeper understanding about their vehicles, while getting a true brand experience in an intimate setting.neu by Cycle & Carriage_Concept Store_Mercedes-EQS 450+

The Malaysia round of the Scania Top Team competition held last weekend saw 5 out of 12 technicians from the local Scania branches make it at the National Finals. The Scania Top Team competition showcases the technical skills and discipline of these service personnel. It is also a recognition of the importance of the service personnel being at their best, and at the top of their profession. To be the best takes brains, technical skills as well as teamwork which Scania helps develop over the years.

The winning team, B100 from the Scania Malaysia Ipoh workshop, will be flown to Thailand to join their peers from Singapore and Philippines for the Asia-Pacific Regional Final. The winning team will then represent the region at the Grand Final in Europe.Scania Top Team_Malaysia_B100 Ipoh

Scania Top Team is a global competition for professional service teams within the Scania service network. Everyone who works in the service area is eligible to compete in teams of 3 to 5 people. Traditionally, the most common contestants are service technicians, parts specialists and service advisors. Top Team begins at the teams’ workshops with theoretical challenges in 2 parts. As teams advance to the national final stage, the theoretical exercises are supplemented by practical ones. The competition requires a high level of technical knowledge, team spirit and discipline. The format of the competition follows daily work patterns with the most essential objective being to satisfy the needs of our customers.

Scania Top Team_CompetitionThus, these Scania technicians represent the very best of the dedicated specialists who contribute to Scania’s premium brand image as a trusted and respected name in heavy-duty commercial transportation. The  transportation sector is in need of skilled personnel such as service technicians, parts experts and service advisors. This is because the uptime of trucks and buses determine the customer’s profitability. And uptime (the time a truck or bus spends doing work and generating income), to a large extent, lies in the hands of skilled and motivated service personnel.

The purpose of the Top Team competition is to not just increase the knowledge of Scania’s products and services, but to also strengthen the collaboration between service, parts and service advisor personnel. Scania Top Team also gives a good overview of the national competence levels regarding Scania’s service offer and the actions needed in order to keep expertise at the highest level. Apart from strengthening the Scania image to employees and customers, Top Team also creates an understanding and commitment to “Driving the Shift” towards a sustainable transport system.

This generation of technicians and the future ones are expected to drive real change in line with the  transport industry undergoing a technological shift. Top Team members will have a unique opportunity to affect and implement the technology needed to create a sustainable transport system.

Only 12 teams, out of 1,500 teams worldwide from 70 countries, will go through to the Grand Final round in Europe. The teams will be competing for handsome rewards i.e. EUR50,000 (1st prize), EUR30,000 (1st runner-up) and EUR20,000 (2nd runner-up).

L-R: Chang Choon Sai, GoCar Malaysia Co-Founder & Chief Technology Officer; Wong Hoe Mun, GoCar Malaysia CEO; Ruslin Tamsir, Yinson GreenTech Senior Vice President, Electromobility; Valerie Yap Wai Foong, YGT Business Development Manager after the signing of MoU.

GoCar Malaysia is partnering Green EV Charge to enhance its EV offerings with a better user experience. This collaboration will see the integration of the chargEV network platform into GoCar’s mobile application. Doing so will enable GoCar members, as well as other EV users, to gain access to the EV charging network conveniently through a single platform i.e. via the GoCar app. GoCar_chargEV Network

Green EV Charge is a joint venture company of Yinson Green Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd and GreenTech Malaysia Alliances Sdn Bhd. The company currently operates Malaysia’s largest EV charging network, with over 400 charging stations nationwide.

GoCar_Charging Stations_MapThe first phase of service integration will allow GoCar app users to view locations, availability of and types of chargers in the chargEV network. In the next phase of integration, services would include pre-booking of an EV charger, scheduling a recharge, making payments and monitoring of charging progress.

This collaboration with Green EV Charge is the latest of GoCar’s ongoing efforts to expand the accessibility of the EV experience to more Malaysians. The company had recently teamed up with another provider i.e. EV Connection to allow users of the GoCar app access to the JomCharge charging station network.

Furthermore, GoCar has also expanded its GoEV sharing and subscription line-up. It now has the Nissan Leaf and Hyundai Kona E-Max and E-Lite in its fleet of electric vehicles. The company is targeting to increase to more than 100 EVs in its fleet by the end of 2022.

Through GoEV, GoCar members can choose to experience driving an EV for an hour, a day or a month or even from 1 year, up to the option of 3 years. Based on data collected to-date, of the 1,000 GoEV users who have clocked an excess of 500,000 km, 90% were first-time EV users.

“We are excited about this partnership with Green EV Charge. Enhancing connectivity to chargEV will help improve the user experience of EV charging throughout Malaysia. We are proud to champion a smarter, greener way of commuting. GoEV has seen great success in making EVs affordable and accessible to the general public,” commented Wong Hoe Mun, CEO, GoCar Malaysia.

“The integration with JomCharge and now chargEV will offer even more accessibility. Through our GoCar mobile app, any EV user, not just GoCar members will be able to seamlessly connect to both networks for their EV charging needs,” he added.

Yinson GreenTech_ChargEV_EV Charger BoxMeanwhile, Yinson GreenTech Senior Vice President Electromobility, Ruslin Tamsir added, “As the leading EV charging infrastructure provider in Malaysia, chargEV is excited to partner with GoCar, which is one of the country’s fastest growing on-demand vehicle sharing platforms. We believe that chargEV’s new back-end system and mobile app, together with our rapidly expanding charging infrastructure network will be able to support the growth of GoCar’s network and user base. Working together, we believe we can position EVs an attractive and sustainable transport option in Malaysia.”

The company has made upgrades to modernise chargEV’s network, services and back-end system in line with the mission to accelerate the deployment of EV charging infrastructure in Malaysia. Now, customers are able to view the location, availability and type of connectors of chargers, as well as obtain directions in real-time. The company has also improved its customer service experience and quick access to the support hotlines via the chargEV mobile app. The app now offers greater flexibility with both subscription and pay-per-use options to cater to the user’s charging needs and allow greater accessibility for all plug-in vehicles.

To be able to use the GoCar services and also access the charging networks, you will need to download the GoCar app and sign up for a membership.

UMW Toyota Motor has special offers for the Toyota Vios and Yaris in the month of August. Buyers of the Vios or Yaris will be able to enjoy benefits worth RM4,000, on top of cash rebates.

Toyota Yaris_Top ViewIn tune with such promotions to increase sales, UMW Toyota Motor is also making sure that its production capacity is able to meet customer demand. “UMW Toyota Motor is committed to ensuring prompt vehicle delivery. We are working around the clock to intensify production to ensure faster delivery to new car owners who have been patiently waiting. We thank all our customers for their patience and understanding,” said Ravindran K, President of UMW Toyota Motor.

In the month of July 2022, UMW Toyota Motor had registered sales of 6,624 Toyota vehicles. In the same month, the company saw 13 units of Lexus vehicles sold. This brings the group’s tally to 6,637 vehicles for the month. Of this figure, the Toyota Hilux contributed 1,788 units, allowing this popular model to retain the title of best-selling pick-up truck in Malaysia since 2005.Toyota Hilux Rogue_Off-road

As for year-to-date results, the past 7 months saw UMW Toyota Motor sell a combined total of 52,548 vehicles. In comparison, its total sales for the first 7 months of 2021 registered 35,561 vehicles (Toyota & Lexus). This represents a 48% year-on-year increase as the economy opens up, and buyers take advantage of the sales tax waiver on new vehicles.

As an aside, and in alignment with the Toyota Global commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, and in support of the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050, UMWT recently held 2 events i.e. a tree planting programme at the Kuala Selangor Nature Park as well as a Hike and Clean event at Bukit Broga, Semenyih.

The tree planting programme saw 80 participants plant 1,500 mangrove saplings which will grow to act as a huge carbon sink, sequestering 2 to 4 times more carbon than mature rainforests. Meanwhile, the Hike and Clean activity, which is part of the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050, aims to establish a future society that lives in harmony with nature, exemplifying how UMWT walks the talk when it comes to environmental preservation.

Perodua had revealed that it had received some 24,265 orders in July 2022, a sign that demand for its vehicles continue despite the reinstatement of the sales tax. Previously, the government had waived the sales tax on new vehicle purchases to spur sales, but this waiver expired on 30 June 2022.

The carmaker also reported higher year-to-date sales numbers, citing a 48.7% increase (145,689 vehicles) in sales between January and July 2022. In comparison, it sold 97,945 vehicles in the first 7 months of 2021.

Perodua_President & CEO_Dato' Zainal Abidin Ahmad“The sales increase can be attributed to two main reasons, the first is due to the strong demand for our vehicles, especially between January and June this year as customers wanted to take advantage of the government’s sales tax exemption initiative,” said Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

“The second reason why the 2022 year-to-date numbers are stronger is due to the nationwide COVID-19 pandemic lockdown that happened between June and mid-August last year.”

He also added that the booking momentum, while not as strong as the bookings collected in the first half of 2022, was nonetheless better than expected. The company sees this as evidence that the automotive industry still has room for growth.

According to Dato’ Sri Zainal, the all-new Perodua Alza launched in late July had gathered 39,000 bookings thus far. He also earlier announced a 3,000 monthly sales target for the Alza.Perodua Alza AV_Rear Right

“While the year-to-date numbers are encouraging, we are still cautious as there are still lingering issues in the automotive ecosystem last month, which include shortage of labour and residual semiconductor supply availability,” Dato’ Sri Zainal added. “As a result, our month-to-month sales were reduced by 13.3% to 18,346 units in July compared with 21,164 units registered in June this year”.

Perodua continues to work closely with the government to overcome the labour shortage. It has set an expectation to resume full production sometime this month.

“On the semiconductor issue, we have secured enough chip supply for us to produce and register more than 247,800 units this year, however we are still working on sustaining production growth. This means that we could not announce our new targets yet,” Dato’ Sri Zainal explained. “On the industry, we do believe that the total industry volume for this year would be more than 630,000 units as nearly all automotive brands accumulated massive bookings between January and June this year”.Perodua_Showroom_Service Centre_Malaysia

“Also, given that the government has extended the registration deadline for all vehicles booked on or before  30 June 2022 to 31 March 2023, we believe the industry can do better than a 30,000-registration increase by the end of this year,” he added.

In July, the Malaysia Automotive Association announced an increase in the total industry volume to 630,000 vehicles, from a forecast of 600,000 it had announced earlier in January 2022.

July 2022 is the first time an SUV has led the overall automotive market in sales volume. Not only did the Proton X50 set a new monthly sales volume for PROTON, it also became the best-selling vehicle in Malaysia last month. With this achievement, PROTON continues to keep its position as the leading brand in the SUV segment in terms of sales.

Subsequent to its best sales month of the year in June, PROTON registered 11,477 units (domestic + export) in July as the company’s resolution of its parts shortage issues were dampened by delays in approvals for a few of its models. As of 31 July, overall sales for the year is now 71,601 vehicles, an increase of 19.7% over the same period in 2021.

Consequently, PROTON also retains 2nd position in the national automotive sales table with an estimated market share of 22.7% for July. Meanwhile year-to-date market share is estimated to have increased to 18.7%. Total Industry Volume (TIV) for July is estimated at 50,500 vehicles as registration retreat to the median following the expiry of SST incentives on 30 June.

Following its best sales month in June, the Proton X50 continues its record-breaking streak as deliveries sped up to fulfill demand. The 4,763 units registered in July is now the new highwater mark for SUV sales in the country.

This also strengthens PROTON’s dominance in the segment as it is also bolstered by continued strong sales of the Proton X70. Deliveries of the all-new 2022 Proton X70 have increased following its launch on 9 June, with 1,704 units registered last month. This allowed the X70 to maintain its sales leadership for C-segment SUVs and pushed PROTON’s overall SUV volume in 2022 past 31,500 units for the first 7 months of the year.2022 Proton X70_Space Grey_Front

Meanwhile, the rejuvenated Proton Saga continued to achieve strong numbers and kept its position at the top of the A-segment sedan class. 4,521 Sagas were registered last month, pushing cumulative sales for the year to 28,005 cars. The figures also indicate the 2022 model, launched on 12 May, managed to achieve 9,811 registrations in just 80 days.

Further, the Proton Exora also retained its lead position in the C-segment MPV class with 476 units registered. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Proton Persona and Proton Iriz as both models suffered approval delays in July resulting in registrations being temporarily halted.

Proton Showroom_Persona_Saga_X50“Following a hectic June where automotive industry players scrambled to lock in bookings before the end of SST incentives, July was a month of consolidation where market demand fell to normal levels, and everybody concentrated on fulfilling orders already received. PROTON was no exception and with our parts supply situation continuing to improve, we were finally able to show the true sales potential of the Proton X50,” said Roslan Abdullah, Deputy Chief  Executive Officer, PROTON.

“The company is immensely proud of the model becoming the first SUV to be crowned as the best-selling vehicle in Malaysia and we are thankful for the support from our customers. This achievement and PROTON’s sales leadership in other segments shows our business plan is on the right track and repays the confidence placed in the brand by buyers, investors and other stakeholders,” he added.

PROTON_South Africa_X50_X70On the export side, sales had surpassed the 2021 total volume. With 380 vehicles sold in July, exports for 2022 have risen to 3,102 units, surpassing the 3,018 vehicles exported in 2021. This counts PROTON as the leading vehicle exporter in the country and places the company in a strong position to help improve Malaysia’s trade balance in the future. The Proton Saga, Proton X70 and Proton X50 remain the leading export models, with the latter achieving a new export sales high of 126 units.

Meanwhile, PROTON’s financing subsidiary, Proton Commerce Sdn Bhd, has announced it will honour all Letters of Understanding (LOU) at the stated interest rate even if they were issued prior to the recent interest rate hikes. However, there are terms and conditions that apply, and the funds must be disbursed by 31 December 2022. However, this ensures customers who already have an LOU from Proton Commerce and are awaiting their orders that they do not have to worry about being charged a higher rate for financing.

“The easing of restrictions in global trade has been a major boost for PROTON’s export division. With 5 months to go, we are on target for yet another year of double-digit percentage growth, though our enthusiasm is couched by economic issues faced in overseas markets,” said Roslan.

He added: “Domestically, we are working to ensure that despite recent interest rate hikes, our customers will still be able to afford the vehicles they ordered. It’s vital to ensure we convert as many bookings as possible into transacted sales as this will help drive registrations as we continue to strive for more future success”.
