Scania delivered the first Scania New Truck Generation (NTG) XT G410A6x4NZ to MFJ Logistics Sdn Bhd. This NTG XT is a toughened version of the G-series designed to withstand challenging work environments. The XT bumper provides excellent protection for the components at the front of the vehicle, reducing unwanted downtime and costly cab and chassis repairs while improving mobility with its improved angle of attack. It is also fitted with headlamp protection and integrated fog lamps in the bumper to ensure they remain undamaged in tough conditions. All this helps to ensure optimised uptime and productivity, and thus a profitable operation.Scania NTG XT Delivery_MFJ Logistics

This NTG XT also comes with Contracted Services and Scania Fleet Management System (FMS) Control 10, and covered by Scania Financial Services. The Scania Contracted and Financial Services gives MFJ a comprehensive logistical solution for a total peace-of-mind. As such, profitability can be realised immediately with fixed and predictable monthly costs, and knowing that the XT can secure uptime to generate revenue through its day-to-day business operation.

Moreover, the Fleet Management System Control 10 gives MFJ a lot more information and insights to help with optimising truck operation. From core necessities like real time positioning of the XT, vehicle performance, environmental reports, service planning and defect reporting all the way to driver evaluation which will help MFJ to quickly identify potential vehicle usage improvements that could be achieved via driver training and coaching.

“I have always had the faith in the Scania brand and believe that it is the brand to own and operate my transportation business. And with the price of crude palm oil at its highest, the palm oil fruits to be transported are increasing requiring a truck that can take heavier loads. And with the NTG XT, I am able to support the transportation requirements of the smallholders more than before,” said Mad Faisal Jamaluddin, Director of Pagoh-based MFJ Logistics Sdn Bhd. MFJ was established in 2014 and focuses on the transportation of oil palm fruits that are collected daily from smallholding plantations all around Muar and delivered to the palm oil refinery for processing.

“MFJ will enjoy the best fuel consumption and the best CO2 emissions reduction which contribute to their profitability and sustainability efforts throughout the life of the truck,” said Heba El Tarifi, Managing Director, Scania Southeast Asia.

The NTG XT is also designed and engineered to give MFJ better fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions as it is equipped with advanced powertrain and aerodynamic solutions that gives 3% improved fuel economy. Further, the preset Economy Mode in MFJ’s NTG XT, and the Opticruise gearbox, helps save even more fuel. Additionally, the cabin is an ergonomic and comfortable environment to improve driver performance. The adjustable driver’s seat is positioned close to the door and ergonomic dashboard. The large windscreen with extended view also makes it easier for the driver to operate comfortably and safely.Scania G410 XT_MFJ Logistics

“I would like to congratulate MFJ Logistics for being the first in Johor to realise a smart investment in the XT as the precise choice for its business operations and for being the partner in Johor to take advantage of the combination of the Contracted and Financial Services which would secure a faster and higher return on its investment,” added Heba.

In the first half of 2022, Perodua managed to sell 127,343 vehicles, which is a 30% jump from the 97,290 vehicles it sold during the same period in 2021. The Myvi remains the brand’s most popular model. Of the 127,343 units registered, the Myvi made up about 30% (38,039 units). This was followed by the Perodua Axia with 29,183 units and the Perodua Bezza, 28,719 units. The Bezza has been steadily gaining popularity as it is the most sought after model at the moment, according to the company.Perodua Myvi_Front Right_1.5 AV

The significant increase in sales can mainly be attributed to the strong demand due to the sales tax exemption deadline of 30 June 2022. “There was a significant rush in vehicle booking especially when the government extended the registration period to 31 March 2023 and we thank Malaysians for choosing Perodua as their brand of choice,” Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad said.

Perodua Bezza_1.3 AV_Front Left“Speaking of the sales tax exemption; on the last day of the initiative, Perodua saw the highest single booking day on 30 June 2022 with 25,100 vehicles orders taken,” he said. “This is unprecedented and a testament to the growth potential of Malaysia’s automotive industry given the right incentive.”

“We sincerely thank the government for extending the delivery deadline to 31 March 2023 as we needed that grace period to meet the demand so far,” Dato’ Zainal said.

Besides the sales tax exemption initiative, another key factor contributing to this sales performance was the relatively low registration of vehicles in June 2021 due to the second lockdown to reduce COVID-19 infection cases. In comparison, Perodua only registered 1,009 vehicles in June 2021, while in June 2022, it was 21,164 vehicles. On a month-to-month comparison, Perodua’s sales increased by 10.7% compared to the 18,901 vehicles registered in May 2022.

Perodua Global Manufacturing Sdn Bhd Official Opening RobotDato’ Zainal further added that the increase in registration in June 2022 was also due to improvement in the parts supply situation compared to the month of May. However, he also noted that issues such as skilled labour and parts shortages are still present and asked for understanding from customers in terms of delivery. “We sincerely apologise for the long wait and are doing everything in our power to further improve production for the benefit of our customers,” he said.

Dato’ Zainal said the company is taking steps to address this, including working closely with its suppliers. In some cases, it is providing Perodua staff to work at the supplier’s premises to ensure that parts supply continues to flow. “That being said, we hope that the manpower issue can be resolved quickly as the impact to the industry and to some extent the country is significant,” he said. While on the parts shortage, continuous communication with its suppliers and partners are ongoing to find alternative components, he said. He said that despite these issues, Perodua is still maintaining its full year sales target of 247,800 units.

L-R: Mr Daniel Ho, Group Chief Executive Officer, Tan Chong Motor Holdings; Mrs Asako Hoshino, Executive Vice President, Nissan Motor Company Ltd; Dato’ Dr Rosie Tan, Deputy President of Tan Chong Group; Mr Nirmal Nair, Vice President, Marketing, Nissan Asia & Oceania.

Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM), distributor and importer of Nissan vehicles in Malaysia, has officially launched the Nissan Serena S-Hybrid facelift. The 2022 Serena C27 comes with enhanced styling and added safety features, and is once again available in 2 variants i.e. Highway Star and Premium Highway Star.

The Serena S-Hybrid Highway Star has a retail price of RM149,888 while the Premium Highway Star variant is RM162,888. These prices are on-the-road in Peninsular Malaysia (without insurance), and includes sales tax.Nissan Serena S-Hybrid_C27 Exterior_Front & Rear

Within the engine bay is the familiar 2.0L Twin CVTC (Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control) engine that is assisted by an Energy Control (ECO) electric motor which controls the idle-stop system, and also provides torque assistance when moving off and when the engine is under high load. The S-Hybrid system is designed to give some of the benefits of a regular hybrid powertrain but without the associated higher costs.
The MR20DD engine produces 150 PS @ 6,000 rpm and 200 Nm @ 4,400 rpm, while the ECO motor assists with 2.6 PS and 48 Nm.

Nissan Serena S-Hybrid_2.0 MR20DD EngineThis hybrid drivetrain is paired with the XTRONIC CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) with Adaptive Shift Control. The intelligent control system interprets the driver intentions from the acceleration and steering and determines the optimum transmission ratios to deliver class-leading fuel efficiency. Classified as an Energy Efficient Vehicle, the Serena S-Hybrid has a rated fuel consumption of 14.2 km/L and has a full tank range of up to 852 km.

NewSerena_Launch-HSkin_MobileOn the safety end, the 7-seater Serena S-Hybrid has the 360° Safety Shield with enhanced Active Safety available for both variants. The Safety Shield includes Intelligent Predictive Forward Collision Warning & Intelligent Forward Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

Additionally, there is the Intelligent Around View Monitor with Intelligent Moving Object Detection to give the driver a surrounding view of the vehicle. The sensors can also detect moving objects and will alert the driver to be cautious. Meanwhile, Intelligent Driver Alertness will monitor driving behaviour to determine if the driver is lacking in alertness / attention, in which it will remind the driver to take a break. Besides these, the Serena also comes with 6 airbags (including full-length curtain airbags that cover window openings), ISOFIX system for 2nd row seats, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EDB) and Brake Assist (BA), as well as Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with Traction Control System (TCS), and Hill Start Assist (HSA).

In terms of a facelift, the Serena S-Hybrid gets redesigned dual projector LED automatic headlamps, a new V-motion front grille with a chrome pattern, redesigned front bumper with integrated fog lamps and daytime running lights, and a newly designed LED tail light and rear bumper with added Gloss Black finishing. The Premium Highway Star uses 16″ alloy wheels (in black finish) while the Highway Star goes an inch down.

Adding a more premium ambience to the cabin is soundproofing liners in the rear wheel housing. This helps to supress NVH (Noise, Vibration & Harshness) levels to deliver a quieter, more serene experience for the passengers. The Highway Star gets fabric seats (with an option for leatherette), while the Premium has quilted combination Nappa leather (in a choice of brown or black).

Other goodies included in the Premium variant are a 9″ touchscreen infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (vs 6.75″), front and rear driving recorders, 11.6″ roof-mounted monitor for rear passengers, “Tech-On” tray mat, trunk tray, LED room lamp, and V-Kool safety tinting film.

Standard to both interiors are 7″ full colour Advanced Drive Assist Display (ADAD), cruise control, smart entry and push button start, dual zone climate control (front), rear cooling vents and digital switch, zero gravity seats, and 7 USB ports. Furthermore, the convenient Dual Back Door and hands-free Dual Power Sliding Doors are carried over from the preceding model.

Daniel Ho_Group Chief Executive Officer_Tan Chong Motor Holding.“Edaran Tan Chong Motor introduced the first Family MPV in 1997 and since then, 4 generations of the Serena have served and met the needs of multiple generations of Malaysian families, providing wonderful moments together. More than 45,000 units have been sold nationwide to date, and in 2021, it was the best-selling Non-National Mid-size MPV in the country,” said Daniel Ho, Group Chief Executive Officer, Tan Chong Motor Holdings.

Asako Hoshino_Executive Vice President_Nissan Motor Co., LtdMeanwhile, Asako Hoshino, Executive Vice President, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. said, “Malaysia has been an important part of Nissan’s journey in ASEAN since 1957. Nissan will continue to strive to meet our customers’ expectations by focusing on technological innovation and electrification, which will benefit both customers and society. The introduction of the new 2022 Nissan Serena S-HYBRID today demonstrates our commitment to Malaysia.”

“When we launched the Nissan Serena S-HYBRID, it was among the first hybrid models to be assembled in Malaysia and it is still the only locally-assembled hybrid MPV. This new generation of Serena has a very extensive list of features that give it a premium image – without the premium price. Now, to make it even better value for money, it comes with added safety features and fresh styling in line with the latest Nissan design language,” Mr. Daniel added.

According to Mr. Daniel, although there is the ongoing global shortage of microprocessors and logistics issues affecting production, Tan Chong Motor Assemblies (a subsidiary of the Tan Chong Motor Holdings Berhad) has done its best to minimise waiting periods for all the Nissan models it assembles at the factory in Serendah, Selangor.

“Thanks to the cooperation of our customers who have booked the new Serena S-Hybrid early, we are able to plan better and schedule production more accurately to minimise waiting time. Since we open for bookings, we have received more than 2,000 orders,” he said, adding that those who have booked a vehicle before June 30, 2022, will be able to enjoy the sales tax exemption.

For the ‘early bird’ customers who made bookings, ETCM will show its appreciation with 5 times alternate free Maintenance Services (inclusive of Parts & Labour) and the warranty period will also be up to 5 years with unlimited mileage (terms and conditions apply).

Further, via the GREEN Financing program, customers wishing to purchase the new Serena S-Hybrid are entitled to a 1.99% p.a. interest rate.

Depending on the variants, there are up to 4 colour choices, with a choice of 2-tone scheme for the Premium Highway Star. The body colour choices for the Premium variant are Dark Metal Grey, Brilliant White, Radiant Red and Diamond Black. The roof is finished in black.

For the Serena Highway Star, 3 body colours are available i.e. Brilliant White, Tungsten Silver and Diamond Black.

PROTON has unveiled its new engine assembly line at the Tanjung Malim plant. This is one of the most advanced engine assembly lines in the country and it has been operating since April, producing the 1.5L TGDI (Turbo Gasoline Direct Injection) engine. This is the first time this engine is assembled outside of China.

Located within Proton Tanjung Malim’s Engine and Powertrain facility, the assembly line covers an area of 18,000 square metres and currently has a maximum capacity of 180,000 engines when running on three shifts. This project is also part of the RM1.8 billion earmarked by PROTON to upgrade its facilities at Tanjung Malim.ETM Proton Tanjong Malim_Factory

The 1.5L TGDI is an award-winning 3-cylinder engine deployed over multiple Geely Group brands. Its variants have been used in over 750,000 vehicles sold globally. Utilising solutions such as engine downsizing, optimised thermal and lubrication systems, a low inertia turbocharger, and homogenised GDI, the engine pairs performance with reduced fuel consumption and emissions and is capable of meeting Euro 6 requirements.

Featuring 88 stations comprising of 17 automatic, 15 semi-automatic and 56 manual stations, the 1.5 TGDI assembly line was built using an IR 4.0 ethos and features a high level of automation to boost productivity. Housed in a climate controlled clean environment that has an anti-static station to allow for the discharge of static electricity to protect the high-tech electronic components used, the assembly line moves on a conveyor system that is not only smoother but also cleaner, more durable and less costly to operate than one that uses a chain.

As a locally assembled product, PROTON sources parts from Malaysian and regional suppliers. For this engine, there are currently 72 parts supplied by 19 Malaysian and 4 ASEAN vendors. PROTON is also using the new assembly line to advance its human capital development goals, with 202 workers directly employed to work there. With an average age of 24 years, they represent the next generation of automotive talents for the nation.

PROTON Engine Assembly Line“PROTON’s new engine assembly line showcases the company keeping its promises to its stakeholders. When the agreement was made to partner with Geely in 2017, one of our commitments was to invest in Malaysia’s automotive industry both financially and through the introduction of new high technology components. The new assembly line does this while also giving PROTON an avenue to attract and develop young talents who will help drive the automotive industry and the company into the future,” said Roslan Abdullah, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of PROTON.

All workers on the assembly line have undergone extensive training with Geely as well as the suppliers of the machines, which include ABB, COMAU, FEV China, FEV India, WiBeda and Hangxin. It also deploys IoT (Internet of Things) technology such as intensive data capture and analysis tools to ensure quality meets the standards required and are maintained. Additionally, 207 Error Mistake Proofing (EMP) controls and 34 intelligent high-resolution cameras have been installed on the line to prevent process and assembly defects, and reduce downtime with 100% real-time defect detection capabilities.

“Quality is the main priority at our new engine assembly line. We know we need to show Malaysians that PROTON is capable of building reliable high-quality products, so we have left nothing to chance. Aside from the quality monitoring measures deployed on the assembly line, we also work closely with our counterparts at Geely to trouble shoot issues and share best practices in our efforts to produce a world-class engine,” added Roslan Abdullah.

We are well into the month of July, and as you may be aware, any booking / sale of a new car going forward will include sales tax. The government had previously exempted the purchase of new locally assembled and fully imported vehicles from the sales tax (SST) but this expired on 30 June 2022. However, cars booked by this 30 June deadline are still eligible for the tax waiver until 31 March 2023, to help ease the strain on manufacturers who are still facing production / supply constraints. Thus for cars booked from this month onwards, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has released the adjusted manufacturer’s recommended retail prices.Mercedes-Benz Autohaus_Showroom

The reintroduction of the sales tax for locally-assembled and fully imported vehicles are effective from 1 July
2022. The revised retail prices are:
