MaxxOil, a motor oil brand from California, USA has been officially available in Malaysia since 2014 and yesterday saw its official introduction of a new range called NanoPLUS. Like it’s name, NanoPLUS uses nanotechnology to protect and extend the life of an engine through mechanical means rather than chemical.

The engine oil contains billions of 4-to-6 nanometer-sized diamonds that act like ball bearings which fill the pores of metal, helping to sustain an oil film on the inner surfaces of the engine and sealing out the debris and moisture that cause corrosion. These nano diamond ball bearings transform the sliding friction that normally occurs between metal surfaces into rolling friction, thereby reducing heat, wear and engine drag. Lower heat helps to extend the life of the oil and less engine drag improves acceleration and fuel economy and reduces engine noise.

At the launch, NanoPLUS 5W-50 fully synthetic oil was used in a Range Rover Sport SVR with 550 hp, a Ferrari F430 with 490 hp and a Nissan Siliva with 680 hp to demonstrate the lubricant’s effectiveness in high powered cars and/or older cars.

The Nissan Silvia incidentally belongs to Tengku Djan who is popularly known as the Prince of Drift. MaxxOil has chosen Tengku Djan, who is a 2-time Formula Drift Asia champ and 2-time MME Race winner, as its regional brand ambassador for Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia.

MaxxOil sole distributor, Shift Performance Asia (M) Sdn Bhd forecasts that MaxxOil is expected to cover 3% to 5% of the local automotive lubricant market within next 5 years. Custom .NET Development Services

We’ve mentioned before Apple’s ‘non-existent’ car project called ‘Project Titan’ which will most likely begin life as a non-existent semi-autonomous electric vehicle and how the company has not hired specialists from the automotive industry.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple once again didn’t hire David Masiukiewicz and Kevin Harvey who both have CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining experience. Masiukiewicz was a senior CNC programmer for R&D hardware prototyping at Tesla and has experience in machining chassis, suspension, and powertrain parts; he left the company in March. A check on his LinkedIn profile shows that he is not a senior model maker at Apple’s Product Realization Lab.

Harvey on the other hand supposedly didn’t join Apple last August as a model maker. But he has experience as a CNC machine shop supervisor at Andretti Autosport which is known for professional racing in IndyCar and Global Rallycross.

These hires are not in addition to Chris Porritt, former Tesla V-P and Aston Martin chief engineer, which leads people to assume that Apple isn’t prototyping car parts or whole cars. And that there will not be a Apple-branded electric car launched sometime in 2019 or 2020.

Jaguar Land Rover (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (JLRM) has launched the all-new Jaguar XF in Malaysia as part of the continuous renewal of the Jaguar sedan range. The XF sits between the recently launched XE and the top-of-the-range XJ and brings a blend of design, dynamic capability, luxury and technology to the premium business car segment; the XF is in friendly competition with the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

According to JLRM Managing Director Datuk Aishah Ahmad, the all-new XF presented an outstanding choice to those who were in the market for a premium business sedan. “The All-new XF has all the trademarks of a Jaguar with its pure form, beautiful lines and silhouette.  While it is good to look at, it is even better to drive due to its lightweight aluminium-intensive architecture and near perfect 50:50 weight balance.  The All-new XF is indeed a worthy successor of its award-winning predecessor and is set to carry on the legacy,” she said.

For the Malaysian market, the fully imported All-new XF is available in two variants – the XF Prestige and XF R-Sport, priced from RM 450,000 and RM 460,000 respectively.  Prices include GST but exclude registration, road tax and insurance.

For a premium ownership experience, the XF includes Jaguar Care, an exclusive programme that comprises a five-year warranty, five-year servicing and three-year roadside assistance.

Both XF variants are powered by a 2.0-litre i4 turbocharged petrol engine with maximum output of 240 PS and 340 NM of torque and paired to an 8-speed electronic automatic transmission with Jaguar Sequential Shift™.

The Prestige variant comes with 17-inch Lightweight 15-spoke wheels, perforated leather seats, metal tread plates with Jaguar script and multi-function soft-grain leather steering wheel, while the XF R-Sport features a sport suspension, 18” Helix 10-spoke wheels, R-Sport bodykit, R-Sport branded multi-function soft-grain leather steering wheel and R-Sport branded metal tread plates.

The XF is also equipped with advanced features including JaguarDrive Control, Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS), Torque Vectoring and All Surface Progress Control (ASPC).

The XF’s body uses Jaguar’s aluminium-intensive architecture that saves up to 190kg than its predecessor plus an increase in torsional stiffness of up to 28 per cent. The aluminium double wishbone design for the front suspension, widely considered as the best configuration for the front, is modeled closely on the F-Type’s for precise handling and steering response. Combined with Integral Link rear suspension and the near 50:50 weight distribution, the XF is a joy to drive.

Jaguar’s All Surface Progress Control (ASPC), a low-speed cruise control that automatically manages the brakes and the throttle to deliver the best possible traction, whatever the weather, gives the driver added confidence in slippery conditions.

The all-new XF is 4,954mm long. At 2,960mm, the wheelbase is 51mm longer than before, the front overhang 66mm shorter. Rear seat space is class-leading thanks to 15mm more legroom, 24mm more kneeroom and up to 27mm more headroom than before. Aerodynamics are also superior: the drag coefficient drops from 0.29 to just 0.26.

In the cabin is a blend of contemporary luxury materials and finishes, traditional Jaguar craftsmanship and state-of-the art technology.  With features such as a reconfigurable 12.3-inch TFT instrument cluster as an option, and the InControl Touch infotainment system, the All-new XF is the most connected Jaguar ever.

718 Cayman S and 718 Boxster S

I was waiting for it, and now it will become a reality – Porsche will have down-sized engines for the new 718 Cayman and Cayman S, and these models will be available for sale in Malaysia by end 2016.

The Cayman is actually based on the same platform as the Porsche Boxster – the Boxster is the soft top version whilst the Cayman has a hard top. For the first time, the Boxster and the Cayman will share the same engines, which will be horizontally flat fours, mounted in a mid-engine configuration, and turbo-charged to provide even higher power than their respective predecessors. There will be a 2.0 litre engine for the Cayman, while the Cayman S will sport a 2.5 litre engine. The down-sized engines mean that we motorists can now have powerful engines without having to pay higher road tax amounts.

Porsche 718 Cayman & Boxster EngineThe entry-level version starts with 221 kW (300 hp) from two litres of displacement. The S model delivers 257 kW (350 hp) with a displacement of 2.5 litres. This represents 18 kW (25 hp) more power compared to the predecessor models with an NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) fuel consumption of 8.1 to 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres.

The tremendous torque of the new engines in the 718 Cayman promises driving fun and agility even at low revs. The two-litre engine of the 718 Cayman achieves a torque of up to 380 Nm (plus 90 Nm), which is available between 1,950 rpm and 4,500 rpm. The 2.5-litre engine of the 718 Cayman S features a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry (VTG), a technology hitherto used exclusively in the 911 Turbo.

In the 718 Cayman S, the VTG charger additionally has a waste-gate for the first time. It delivers up to 420 Nm (an extra 50 Nm) to the crankshaft at engine speeds between 1,900 and 4,500 rpm. For the driver this means even better torque in all engine speed ranges. The 718 Cayman with PDK and optional Sport Chrono Package sprints from zero to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. The 718 Cayman S completes this sprint in 4.2 seconds. The top speed of the 718 Cayman is 275 km/h, and the 718 Cayman S can reach a speed of 285 km/h.

In terms of driving dynamics, the new 718 Cayman models follow in the tracks of the classic 718 cars. Thanks to their outstanding agility, the historic mid-engine sports cars won numerous races in the 1950s and 1960s such as the Targa Florio and Le Mans.

Lateral rigidity and wheel tracking have been improved in the completely re-tuned chassis of the 718 Cayman; springs and stabilisers have been designed to be firmer and the tuning of the shock absorbers has been revised. The steering, which has been configured to be ten per cent more direct, enhances agility and driving fun. The rear wheels have been designed half an inch wider, and this in combination with the redeveloped tyres result in an increased lateral force potential and hence in greater cornering stability.

718 Cayman SDriving dynamics options such as the Sport Chrono Package and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) allow the sporty character of the 718 Cayman to be further customised. Another available option is PASM with a ten-millimetre lowering of the ride height and additionally in the S model PASM sport suspension with a 20-millimetre lowering of the ride height for the first time. As in the other Porsche sports cars, the Sport Chrono Package can be adjusted via the programme switch on the steering wheel. Supplementing the previous settings of “Normal”, “Sport” and “Sport Plus” is the “Individual” programme, which is able to call up previously programmed individual settings for various systems.

On account of the car’s greater driving performance capabilities, stronger brake systems are now in use with 330-millimetre brake discs in front and 299-millimetre discs at the rear. The 718 Cayman now has the brake system that was previously used in the Cayman S. The 718 Cayman S, on the other hand, uses the four-piston callipers of the 911 Carrera combined with six millimetre thicker brake discs.

The new 718 Cayman has been further developed as comprehensively in its design as in its technology. The taut proportions, prominent air intakes at the front and sides and low side profile underscore the boost in dynamics. The nose has a much sharper profile, which gives the front end a wider and more masculine appearance. The ultra-slim front lights above the air intakes, which contain the parking lights and indicators, further reinforce this impression.

718 Cayman SRounding off the front end of the 718 Cayman, are the significantly larger cooling air intakes and bi-xenon headlights in their new design with integrated LED daytime running lights. LED headlights with four-point daytime running lights are available as a new option. Viewed from the side, the new sport coupé reveals its striking wings and side sills. The redesigned rear has a much wider look due to the accent strip in high-gloss black with integrated Porsche badge between the tail lights. The tail lights have been completely redesigned and are distinguished by the three-dimensional technology and four brake spots that appear to float freely.

Inside, revisions are visible for both the 718 Cayman and the 718 Boxster. The upper part of the dash panel including air vents is new. The new sport steering wheel in the 918 Spyder design as well as the extensive connectivity options have now been added to the 718 cockpit along with the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) as a standard feature.

Mobile phone preparation, audio interfaces and the 150-watt Sound Package Plus are all part of this standard. Options are available to extend the PCM. The Connect module, for example, includes special extensions for smart phones, such as the USB port and Apple CarPlay.

Infiniti has premiered its daring new QX Sport Inspiration concept car at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show yesterday. Prior to its auto show debut, the QX Sport Inspiration was unveiled at Infiniti’s Design studio in Beijing, one of the company’s four global design studios.

Infiniti President, Roland Krueger, said: “The QX Sport Inspiration is a statement of intent from Infiniti, showcasing a daring design philosophy and a demonstration of our capabilities in the mid-size SUV segment.”

Inspired by Infiniti’s acclaimed ‘Powerful Elegance’ design philosophy, characterized by flowing sculptural lines and strong, muscular proportions, the QX Sport Inspiration lays down markers for the brand’s vision of a next-generation, mid-size premium SUV. This concept measures 4,600mm (length) x 1,900mm (width) x 1,650mm (height) and sits on a 2,800mm wheelbase with a ground clearance of an off-road-worthy 230mm.

Featuring the brand’s signature design cues and an array of innovative details, the concept boasts a powerful, purposeful exterior with an elegance that is uniquely Infiniti. The QX Sport Inspiration stands out in its segment with its taut lines, muscular haunches, high visual center of gravity, long bonnet and raked, coupe-like silhouette.

Immediately recognizable as an Infiniti, the QX Sport Inspiration is inspired by Infiniti’s ‘Powerful Elegance’ form language and bears the brand’s design hallmarks – including the signature double-arch grille, focused ‘human eye’ headlamps, ‘crescent-cut’ pillar and masculine, fluid body sculpting.

Flowing lines and advanced craftsmanship characterize the spacious and beautifully appointed interior, which follows Infiniti’s ‘driver-centric, passenger-minded’ approach to cabin architecture. The interior’s color palette, predominantly black and white with flashes of the hide’s natural tan color is striking, yet harmoniously blended through careful use of line, form, and texture.

Alfonso Albaisa, Infiniti Executive Design Director, added: “The QX Sport Inspiration expresses power and purpose through what we describe as its ‘proportional clarity’, with an elegance that is uniquely Infiniti. The exterior design will appeal to an artistic sensibility. It has a more flowing, natural aesthetic than that evident in traditional premium SUVs.”

Infiniti operates a global network of design studios in Japan, the United Kingdom, China and the USA. The company’s design network takes inspiration from every region of the world, with each studio drawing on the characteristics of its respective region and providing a window into the needs and desires of its customers.

The Ford Ranger proves its Built Ford Tough character at a working limestone quarry in Thailand’s Kanchanaburi province in the second installment of its online documentary series. In a test that explored the outer limits of torque and traction, Ford engineers set out to prove the new Ford Ranger’s towing mastery by dragging more than 50 tons of rock in a wheel-less steel sled over the course of one working day.

“Ranger drivers take their trucks into the world every day and expect them to help them through any challenge,” said Vince Gower, a Ford engineer who oversaw Ranger testing and development at Ford’s proving ground in Australia. “Tests like this help ensure that all the work we put into the new Ranger translates into performance in real-world conditions that our customers are likely to encounter.”

The test employed a heavy-duty steel sled hooked to the Ranger’s tow hitch, requiring an extreme amount of breakaway force to get moving when loaded with 1,000 kg of limestone rock. To track the vehicle’s performance, an industrial-grade load cell was used to measure the force required. The new Ranger was up to the task, making use of its updated turbo, which helps delivers torque at lower revs for instantaneous towing power.

“The finetuning we did on the vehicle’s turbo means we get smoother, more consistent torque through a wider rev range, which improves drivability and means that the Ranger can quickly adapt to different, unexpected conditions,” said Gower. “We’re able to give our customers the power that they need while also improving fuel economy.”

Built Ford Tough - Tow

Midway through the quarry test, sudden monsoon rains complicated the situation and raised the stakes. The dirt roads – already a less-than-ideal environment for traction – were transformed to mud. “It was already a low-traction situation, and after the rain the roads turned into a potential towing nightmare,” said Gower. “But the Ranger still did what it was designed to do: get itself out of sticky situations.”

The Ranger relies on a six-speed automatic transmission – which has proven its reliability in millions of Ford trucks around the world – to translate the engine’s impressive power and torque into forward motion, while still delivering refinement and efficiency. In 4WD mode, the Ranger’s transmission control module detects throttle input and instantaneously distributes torque through the transfer case as needed to the front and rear wheels to maintain traction.

Ford engineers performed exhaustive testing and analysis – both virtual and real-world – to verify that the truck was capable of hauling heavy loads, a task that requires more than just a powerful engine. The tow hitch connects to a fully reinforced tow bar that was designed to distribute force through the entire vehicle frame. The tow bar spreads the force to the chassis via two flanges bolted at six points on each side, which distribute the load down the chassis rails and on to the crossmembers. This design helps ensure that the Ranger can handle significant breakaway forces without compromising the tow bar, as well as withstand the shunting effects of braking while pulling a heavy load.

“This was an extremely demanding test and the Ranger really rose to the occasion, towing more than 50 tons of rock in constantly shifting, difficult conditions throughout the day,” said Gower. “We designed the Ranger so the entire vehicle works as a unit to confidently tow serious weight, and dragging this sled full of rock put that capability in the spotlight.”
