Jaguar XE Launched In Malaysia

Jaguar Land Rover (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (JLRM) has launched the new Jaguar XE sports sedan in Malaysia to complement the bigger XF and XJ sedans.

According to JLRM Managing Director Tuan Syed Mudzhar Syed Ali, the Jaguar XE redefines the concept of the sports sedan. “Its lightweight construction, streamlined styling, luxurious interior and outstanding ride and handling make it a true driver’s car. In the XE, Jaguar has come up with a winner that is definitely a serious contender in the mid-size luxury sedan segment”.

The Jaguar XE is smallest, lightest and stiffest Jaguar sedan and is packed with many ground-breaking features. The rear wheel-drive XE is the only vehicle in its class to use an aluminium-intensive monocoque. More than 75% of the body is aluminium which makes it robust yet light. Equipped with double wishbone front suspension and an Integral Link rear axle, it provides an exciting yet economical drive. The slippery profile with a drag coefficient of just 0.26 (the most aerodynamic Jaguar to-date) also helps.

For Malaysia, JLRM has brought in 3 variants – Prestige, R-Sport and S. The Prestige sports a 2L 200PS The Prestige is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine; the R-Sport has the same engine but packs 240PS while the flagship S uses a 3L supercharged V6 petrol engine that produces 340PS; the same engine in the über-cool F-Type Coupe. All 3 variants come with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

In terms of driving aids, Jaguar XE uses quite a few. The All-Surface Progress Control senses road conditions and increases traction and Jaguar Drive Control features driving modes (Normal, Eco, Dynamic & Winter) that alters the steering weight and throttle mapping according to your preferred driving style. Winter mode might seem overkill but it’s actually helpful in slippery road conditions.

Additionally, there’s Torque Vectoring By Braking. This feature is also found on the F-Type and keeps the car well-behaved through corners by automatically applying brake force to the required wheels. A new generation Electric Power Assisted Steering is also found in all XEs to provide a more precise steering response and feel while aiding fuel economy. On the brief test drive, I found it lighter than expected but in its defense, it’s only an initial and brief impression.

Being a Jaguar, the cabin exudes a sense of premium and luxury. At a glance, the cabin space looks tight but when seated inside, it’s gives a cozy feeling and never smothering. Rear legroom looks inadequate but there’s enough space that my knees never got intimate with the back of the front seat and thigh support was comfortable. The sunroof lets in plenty of light to eliminate any sense of claustrophobia. Cargo space is 455 liters and the rear seats fold 40:20:40. Driving it, you get a sense of the car’s interior folding you into its arms.

According to JLRM, Jaguar’s new InControl Touch infotainment system features an 8″ touchscreen with a clear, intuitive graphical interface and fast response times. There are also 2 audio systems offered – the Jaguar Sound System with 80 Watts, 4 channels and 6 speakers and the optional 380-Watt Meridian-designed Sound System with 12 channels, 11 speakers and a subwoofer.

Prices start from RM340,000 for the Jaguar XE Prestige, RM365,000 for the R-Sport and RM580,000 for the S (includes GST but excludes other costs). All XEs are covered by a 5-year or 150,000km warranty and 3-year roadside assist. Prestige and R-Sport owners will also get a 5-year or 80,000km free scheduled maintenance package while the S gets a 5-year or 65,000km package.

Further, JLRM is offering a limited number of exclusive accessories package worth RM10,000 for the early birds. It includes illuminated front sill tread plates, steering-mounted paddle shifters in Aluminium Red, specially designed gear selector and unique tyre valve caps.
