Volvo Trucks Malaysia_12 Hours Uptime Promise_Gold Service AgreementVolvo Trucks Malaysia has launched its Uptime Promise to support its customers and enhance ownership experience. Uptime Promise is a newly added service to its Gold Service Agreement for aftermarket support. This ‘Promise’ is the first-of-its-kind in the market with the unique feature of providing monetary compensation to customers who has a truck on a breakdown time that exceeds Volvo Trucks’ committed time to put the truck back on the road.

Volvo Trucks_FH_Globetrotter_RoadThe customer-centric Uptime Promise is designed to give customers extra protection against unplanned standstills and is offered as part of Volvo Trucks’ continuous customer satisfaction enhancement effort. More than financial compensation for truck downtime, Uptime Promise offers other benefits including safe and dependable repairs carried out by highly skilled Volvo technicians, minimal loss of income due to downtime, and maximum truck uptime.

“We understand how important uptime is to our customers in securing their profitability. At Volvo Trucks, our main priority is to minimise the risk of a breakdown and, should one occur, to get the truck back on the road as quickly as possible. Through our Gold Service Agreement and Uptime Promise, our customers can now maximise uptime driving, increase maintenance efficiency, and protect their trucks with protection plans customised to their business needs,” said Mitch Peden, Managing Director, Volvo Trucks Malaysia.

Volvo Trucks_Service_Workshop_TechnicianVolvo Truck customers who subscribe to the Gold Service Agreement will now be automatically entitled to enjoy the benefits of Uptime Promise. They will receive monetary compensation of RM300 per day for any breakdown exceeding 12 hours from the time of telephone call to Volvo’s Customer Care Centre hotline to request for Volvo Action Service support (subject to terms and conditions).

“Volvo Trucks is very proud to be the first truck brand in Malaysia to introduce this unique compensation benefit to our customers. Uptime is an important parameter to drive customer satisfaction because unexpected downtime affects business profitability. We are confident that with this newly added service, we will be able to reward our customers for their trust and support in us, whilst further elevating their level of satisfaction with Volvo Trucks,” Peden added.

Volvo Trucks_Cab_Driving_RoadIn addition to the launch of Volvo Uptime Promise, Volvo Trucks is also featuring its new Active Safety Package at its booth here at the Malaysia Commercial Vehicle Expo 2019 (MCVE). “The Active Safety Package is our safety support solution that can streamline the planning and execution of safe driving on the road to the benefit of the drivers of our trucks and the wider community. Safety is our core value; this enhanced feature introduction is part of our continuous effort in driving progress towards achieving our goal of zero accidents involving Volvo Trucks,” commented Peden.

The Active Safety Package includes advanced and innovative safety features aimed at assisting truck drivers to retain their attention while driving under the fast-changing traffic condition. The Active Safety Package consists such features as:

  • Volvo Dynamic Steering with Stability Assist which enables the truck’s sensor to monitor the truck’s rotational speed and activate the system to help the driver steer and stabilise the vehicle if any skidding tendency is detected.
  • Back-up Monitor offers excellent visual supervision behind the truck during reversing or when coupling the trailer to the truck.
  • Lane Keeping Support alerts the driver when unintentional deviations from the lane is detected.
  • Depart Warning System with Lane Keeping Assist works with Lane Keeping Support to alert the driver and automatically make the necessary correction when the truck continues to deviate from the driving lane.
  • Driver Alert Support is an extension package to Lane Keeping Support. If the driver shows signs on inattention, the system activates an audio-visual alert.
  • Lane Changing Support helps to prevent accidents while changing lanes. When the turn signal is engaged the Lane Changing Support will alert the driver if there is a vehicle in the blind spot.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Forward Collision Warning and Emergency Brake maintains the truck at a safe distance to the vehicle in front. The driver will be alerted if the distance between the vehicle in front is at a critical range and the truck will apply emergency braking when it senses no reaction from driver.

Logistics solutions provider, Aone Logistics Sdn Bhd, has signed the Scania Ecolution truck agreement with Scania Malaysia, making it the first to do so in Asia.

Scania_New Truck Generation_MalaysiaScania Ecolution is a partnership programme that is tailor-made by Scania for its customers to help customers ultimately reduce operating costs and improve profitability, while being eco-friendly. This is done by various means such as vehicle optimisation and agreed fuel and CO2 emissions reduction targets, depending on the partners operational requirements. The progress to reach the targets will be regularly monitored, evaluated and discussed with the Scania Ecolution Manager to ensure the company is on-track to achieve the desired result.

The Ecolution partnership agreement was signed by Scania Southeast Asia Managing Director, Marie Sjödin Enström and Aone Logistics Sdn Bhd Managing Director, S. Palani at the Malaysia Commercial Vehicle Expo 2019, witnessed by Dato’ Kamarudin Jaffar, Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Transport and Dag Juhlin-Dannfelt, the Swedish Ambassador to Malaysia.

“At Scania, we believe that sustainability and profitability can go hand-in-hand and Scania Ecolution will facilitate the shift towards a sustainable transport system. This is a holistic approach towards a more responsible and sustainable transportation of people and goods,” said Marie Sjödin Enström.

Scania Southeast Asia Managing Director_Marie Sjödin Enström_AONE Group Managing Director_S. UD Quester_ESCOT AMT_Malaysia_Launch_2019UD Trucks Malaysia has officially launched the new Quester with improved features at the Malaysia Commercial Vehicles Expo (MCVE) 2019 and it is on display at the Malaysia International Exhibition & Convention Centre (MIECC) from 20-22 June.

The updated Quester heavy duty truck is aimed at enabling logistics companies in Malaysia to tackle critical industry challenges and boost their bottom line through Smart Logistics.

The new Quester is also the first Japanese prime mover to offer an automated manual transmission (AMT). Along with the ESCOT (Easy and Safe Controlled Transmission) AMT, the Quester also features a hydraulic retarder, electrical cab tilt, user friendly telematics and higher horsepower engines.

UD Trucks_Quester_Heavy Duty Truck_ESCOT Transmission_MalaysiaThe improvements are aimed at helping boost productivity and profitability for business owners and logistics companies. The new Quester can further enhance fuel efficiency by up to 10% with the ESCOT AMT, lighter tare weight and optimised driveline.

The ESCOT transmission includes a software that optimises gear shifting according to engine revolutions, vehicle speed, loading weight and road gradient. This smart system also includes a sensor that will select optimum gear automatically instead of assuming a first gear selection. Ensuring inproved fuel efficiency helps businesses to better manage fuel costs and mitigate oil price volatility.

Just as important for efficiency are the operating conditions, driving behavior and vehicle maintenance. In line with elevating business success through Smart Logistics, the Quester supports effective fleet management and driver performance with innovative customer telematics such as real-time vehicle tracking and geofencing for better fleet visibility and optimization.

The Quester is equipped with UD Telematics, which has the capability to connect directly to UD Trucks workshops to monitor and detect each vehicle’s condition and service needs before a potential emergency occurs. Preventive maintenance analysis guides customers with monthly driving behavior and fuel consumption reports, ensuring higher uptime and more optimal fuel economy over time.

UD Trucks, Managing Director, Hub Malaysia & Oceania, Steve HedouinThe truck continues with UD’s promise of robustness, reliability, safety and efficiency. “New Quester is the truck that can help meet our customers’ requirements and expectations to manage their key business challenges. We have developed New Quester with the ‘Gemba Spirit’, by being close to the ground, listening to the needs of our customers,” said Steve Hedouin, Managing Director, UD Trucks Hub Malaysia and Oceania.

“New Quester introduces key features to deliver even greater productivity, fuel efficiency, uptime, driver comfort and safety. We are highly confident that New Quester is the truck of this generation that will help Malaysian companies overcome business challenges and accelerate growth with Smart Logistics,” he added.

UD Trucks_ESCOT Automated Manual Transmission_Malaysia“Since 1995, UD Trucks has delivered more than 80,000 trucks with ESCOT automated manual transmission. We are humbled by the tremendous confidence and recognition that the Quester line has earned. With New Quester, we are positive to carry on this legacy of being the truck brand that our customers want to partner with,” Hedouin concluded.

The new Quester is equipped with engines that deliver high torque and pulling power at low RPMs, while a flat torque curve minimizes the need for gear changing. This enables it to deliver higher average speeds and lower fuel consumption in the long run. The enhanced fuel performance aligns with the focus on environmentally friendly regulations to curb fuel consumption.

Driving comfort has also been improved for a better working environment. This is done to support logistics companies expand the pool of talent and address the shortage of drivers.

UD Trucks_Quester_Prime Mover_ESCOT AMTThe Quester has more driver-friendly features to make the driving experience more seamless and comfortable. The ESCOT AMT, besides helping to aid fuel efficiency, also helps take away the need for manual gear shifting, which can happen between 1,000 to 1,500 times in a day in normal operating conditions. Since the ESCOT automatically selects the optimal gear, this frees up the driver’s attention to focus on driving safely and more efficiently.

The ESCOT transmission allows for reduced clutch wear due to inefficient driver operation. Clutch lifespan can increase by up to 2.5 to 3 times comparatively, thus increasing uptime and reducing maintenance costs.

UD Trucks_Quester_CabinThe Quester’s air suspended cab and ride comfort package can reduce cab vibrations by up to 18% thus helping to reduce driver fatigue, which contributes for up to 20% of road accidents in the world. Driver’s comfort is also enhanced with ergonomic seats and lumbar support for long-distance assignments.

UD Trucks Launch, Tan Keng Meng TCIE, MalaysiaTan Keng Meng, Executive Director, Tan Chong Industrial Equipment (TCIE) said, “As UD Trucks’ sole distributor partner, we are fully committed to deliver on UD Trucks’ ethos of “Ultimate Dependability” by increasing truck uptime through our UD Extra Mile Support. Offering an extensive network of well-trained service technicians, we provide quality aftersales service with genuine parts, service planning and vehicle handover training that optimizes fleet performance.”

“We recognize the immense potential in Malaysia, where business success is a key contributor to economic progress. Combined with our Ultimate Dependability standard and Gemba spirit, we are confident that New Quester marks the company’s commitment to continue championing Smart Logistics and providing unmatched value to customers. With our extensive network of 43 service centers and dealerships throughout Malaysia, TCIE will continue to play a major role in providing key support to all our customers,” added Tan.
