L-R: Ooi Choon Beng, Senior Sales Manager of BMW Motorrad Malaysia and Owen Riley, Head of BMW Motorrad Malaysia with the BMW R 1250 GS and BMW R 1250 GS Adventure.

BMW Motorrad Malaysia has expanded their range of premium motorcycles with three new models – the BMW F 850 GS Adventure, BMW R 1250 GS and BMW R 1250 GS Adventure. These were unveiled recently at the BMW Motorrad Night Fuel 2019.

“BMW Motorrad has set the benchmark for premium motorcycles that are capable of high-level endurance riding and touring, motorcycles that are synonymous with its adventurous spirit. The introduction of the BMW Motorrad F Series and the BMW Motorrad R Series has brought about a wave of new, innovative designs that truly Make Life A Ride for our dedicated motorcycle owners,” Harald Hoelzl, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia said when introducing the new premium motorcycles.

According to Hoelzl, BMW Motorrad Malaysia has successfully delivered more than 2,000 motorcycles to new owners in the past two years, with almost 500 deliveries made in the first half of 2019.

Owen Riley, Head of BMW Motorrad Malaysia, meanwhile, said, “The GS Adventure models have stood for distinctive, powerful and reliable propulsion when it comes to dynamic riding, no matter the terrain. Today, as we introduce the new BMW F 850 GS Adventure, BMW R 1250 GS and BMW R 1250 GS Adventure, we are proud to present the new advanced engines and off-road capabilities of our premium motorcycles in the middle-class adventure segment.”

BMW F 850 GS Adventure

BMW Motorrad Malaysia_F 850 GS Adventure_MotorcycleThe New BMW F 850 GS Adventure features a new upside-down telescopic fork with aluminium double-sided swinging arm with central spring strut for an even more sensitive response over terrain. Its larger windshield can be adjusted in two stages, while the hand protectors provide increased wind and weather protection. Other new additions to the motorcycle include LED headlamps as well as full connectivity through its multifunctional instrument cluster which features a 6.5″ full colour TFT screen.

The bike gets a new, powerful and re-engineered two-cylinder in-line engine to achieve a significant increase in power and torque. The engine output is 95 hp @ 8,250 rpm and maximum torque of 92 Nm comes in at 6,250 rpm; top speed is rated at 197 km/h. The engine displacement is now 853 cm³, with a bore of 84 mm and stroke of 77 mm. Vibrations are absorbed by the engine’s two counterbalance shafts. The engine is also integrated as an element to the new monocoque steel bridge frame for added torsional rigidity.

Power transmission is courtesy of the re-engineered six-speed gearbox that is now positioned on the left side of the motorcycle. It transfers torque with an optimised transmission ratio spread to the secondary drive on the left, in the form of an X-ring chain. By positioning the secondary drive on the left side, the exhaust system is now on the right side for optimised comfort.

BMW Motorrad_F 850 GS Adventure_Display_Fuel Tank_2019_Malaysia LaunchThe ergonomics on the BMW F 850 GS Adventure has also been optimised for added riding comfort, especially for off-road riding. The wide enduro footrests, adjustable shift and foot brake levers also contribute to a more comfortable ride. Standard also are engine protection bars and a stainless-steel luggage rack. With a 23-litre fuel tank, a range of 550 km is possible with this bike.

To ensure a high level of safety, the adventure motorcycle offers “Rain” and “Road” riding modes as standard, complete with Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) and Automatic Stability Control (ASC). In “Rain” mode, the throttle response is configured to be soft, while in “Road”, the engine permits an optimum throttle response.

BMW R 1250 GS and BMW R 1250 GS Adventure

BMW Motorrad_R 1250 GS Adventure_Malaysia_2019The engine capacity of the new BMW R 1250 GS and BMW R 1250 GS Adventure has been increased to 1,254 cc. The air/liquid-cooled two-cylinder 4-stroke boxer engine has been refined with BMW ShiftCam Technology and provides increased output of 136 hp @ 7,750rpm and 143 Nm of torque @ 6,250 rpm. The BMW ShiftCam Technology enables variation of the valve timings and valve stroke on the intake side. Additionally, the intake camshafts are designed for asynchronous opening of the two intake valves, resulting more effective combustion.

Further, the Shift Assistant Pro is available as standard to enable upshifts and downshifts without the use of the clutch or throttle valve. The R 1250 GS has a top speed of 200 km/h while the R 1250 GS Adventure is capable of more than 200 km/h. Official consumption of both adventure motorcycles is rated at 4.75 litre per 100 km.

The new bikes have a knock sensor system that allows for the use of fuels with a rating of less than RON95, making it suitable for travelling in various regions. Both models are also fitted with a new digital engine control called the BMW-O. Its main features are fully sequential injection, compact layout and low weight.

BMW Motorrad_R 1250 GS Adventure_Display_Fuel Tank_Malaysia_2019These new adventure-oriented motorcycles run LED headlamps and Daytime Riding lights as standard. It also features a new exhaust system with chrome-plated exhaust pipe. Also standard for both are the multifunctional instrument cluster with 6.5″ full colour TFT screen, BMW Keyless Ride, cruise control, “Rain” and “Road” riding modes, ASC and Hill Start Control, as well as Electronic Suspension Dynamic ESA “Next Generation” with fully automatic load compensation.

Optionally, the Riding Modes Pro feature additional riding modes, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), ABS Pro, Hill Start Control Pro and the new Dynamic Brake Assistant (DBC). The DTC enables even more efficient and safer acceleration especially in banking position, while the ABS Pro offers greater braking safety. The RDC system with tyre pressure monitoring is also available for both models.

The R 1250 GS will be available in the Style HP and Style Exclusive variant, while the R 1250 GS Adventure will be available in Ice Grey and Style HP.

The retail prices (on the road, without insurance, but with BMW Motorrad Malaysia’s all-new 3-Year Warranty and 3-Year Roadside Assistance Programmes) are:
