UMW Toyota Motor_Hilux Black Edition _MalaysiaUMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT) has introduced a new variant of its popular Hilux pick-up truck i.e. Hilux 2.8 Black Edition. This new variant replaces the Hilux 2.8 L-Edition.

Toyota Hilux Black Edition _Wing Mirror_MalaysiaThis new Black Edition features a bolder appearance with a black and dark grey exterior colour theme. Glossy black treatment is applied to the door handles, fog lamp covers, wing mirrors and 18″ alloy wheels, while dark grey finish is used on the bumper guards, as well as the grille to contrast the black.

Toyota Hilux Black Edition_Air cond 22c_MalaysiaThe Hilux 2.8 Black Edition sits the top of the pick-up range with a selling price of  RM139,888 in Peninsular Malaysia (private registration, without insurance). The other variants of Hilux i.e. the 2.4 Single Cab M/T, 2.4 STD M/T, 2.4 G M/T, 2.4 G A/T and 2.4 L-Edition A/T are priced between RM90,000 and RM124,888.

At the same time, UMWT also provided upgrades to the Toyota Hilux, Fortuner and Innova ranges. The updates for each model range is detailed below:

TOYOTA HILUX

The new Hilux 2.8 Black Edition gets a new infotainment system with a 6.75″ display for a clearer view and easier operation. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are available as standard to allow for seamless connectivity (provided the required software is installed). These connectivity functions allow for your apps to be accessed via the infotainment unit for extra convenience.

UMWT has also introduced the Vehicle Telematics System (VTS), which is free for 3 years when you purchase the Toyota insurance package. Additionally, the Rear Digital Video Recorder (DVR) supplements the recorder installed at the front. The footage from the additional DVR that covers the back of the vehicle will be useful as evidence in the event of a rear-end collision.

Toyota Hilux_Black Edition _Blind Spot Monitor_MalaysiaOther optional safety features that can be installed in the Hilux are the Advanced Safety & Security features such as the Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) on the wing mirrors and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) that detect vehicles approaching from either side as you are reversing out.

TOYOTA FORTUNER

The Fortuner 2.7 SRZ and 2.4 VRZ also gets an update to the infotainmnt system, with a large 9″ display and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard. The large display makes viewing of information as well as operation much easier.

The Fortuner 2.4 variant now includes seven airbags as well, for added occupant protection. The additional airbags cover the side windows, enhancing protection in side collisions. The side airbags also help reduce the possibility of occupants being ejected from the cabin.

The prices of Fortuner 2.7 SRZ A/T and 2.4 VRZ A/T have not change. However, the 2.4 A/T is now priced at RM171,500 for Peninsular Malaysia (without insurance).

You can also opt to add the rear Digital Video Recorder to complement the standard front-facing camera with the new Fortuner. Having this professionally installed by UMWT’s own trained personnel means that workmanship quality is ensured.

TOYOTA INNOVA

Just like the Fortuner, the Innova 2.0X and 2.0G variants also get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard with a new and larger 9″ display for the infotainment system.

There are 3 variants of the latest Innova i.e. Innova 2.0X A/T, Innova 2.0G A/T and Innova 2.0 E A/T, to choose from, all powered by an efficient and proven 2.0L engine. There are no price changes for Innova.

Optional features for the Innova include the Blind Spot Monitor system (BSM) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert system (RCTA). These two active safety systems can help to reduce collisions with other vehicles which may not be visible to the driver in certain circumstances.

Further, you can also opt to install Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) at both the front and rear of the vehicle. By ordering them prior to purchase, installation can be done at UMWT’s own Accessories Centre to ensure quality of installation.

In light of the rather testy conditions we are experiencing lately, UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT) saw it fit to issue an official statement to clarify a matter. The company has come out to express its deep regret for an incident that occured at its authorised dealer where the Malaysia flags were hung upside down.

The company acknowledged that this matter was brought to its attention by concerned netizens who took to social media to highlight this error.

The company has stressed that such matters are treated very seriously and that it had no intention to disrespect the country, as the incident was a genuine and unfortunate mistake.

The dealership had also since taken immediate corrective action by removing the flags and stern action has been taken to ensure such matters do not recur.

“We really appreciate our fellow Malaysians and netizens who spotted this mistake and for notifying us. We have since corrected it and taken measures to ensure that such incidences are not repeated in the future. We deeply regret and apologise for what had happened. As Malaysians we have great respect and love for our country,” said Mr. Ravindran K. President of UMW Toyota Motor.

All-New Renault MEGANE R.S.TC Euro Cars (TCEC) has re-introduced the Renault Megane R.S. in “280 CUP” trim to Malaysia. The Renault Sport form of the Megane hatchback is now available with either a six-speed automatic Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) automatic transmission (AT) or a six-speed manual transmission (MT).

The front-wheel-drive hot hatch is priced at:

Renault Megane RS 280 Cup_Price_Malaysia_2019It is covered by a three-year or 100,000 km warranty (whichever comes first).

Four colour options are available i.e. Diamond Black, Pearl White (additional RM1,000) and the signature Liquid Yellow or Orange Tonic (additional RM8,000).

Renault MEGANE R.S. 280 CUP_1.8L Engine Performance_MalaysiaThe engine is a new 1.8L four-cylinder turbocharged unit tweaked by Renault Sport Cars and Renault Sport Racing. It bears a redesigned cylinder head, a new integrated cooling system, an additional twin air inlet to the turbocharger and a chain-driven timing system. The engine now delivers a maximum power of 280 PS and peak torque of 390 Nm – one of the best in class. 0-100 km/h sprint time is claimed to be 5.8 seconds while top speed is 255 km/h (250 km/h for the AT).

The six-speed EDC dual-clutch gearbox has been strengthened to withstand the torque and revs of a sports car engine. Based on the required take-off acceleration, in-gear acceleration and maximum speed, Renault Sport engineers defined new gear ratios and specific shift patterns, in alignment with the customisable MULTI-SENSE system designed to adapt to all driving styles.

The EDC gearbox comes with steering wheel-mounted gearshift paddles. The gearshift times depend on which MULTI-SENSE mode is selected:

  • Comfort and Normal: smooth gear changes, without any jerking;
  • Sport: quicker gear changes with amplified engine noise;
  • Race: efficiency with no compromise on comfort, with even quicker gear changes.

In Sport and Race modes, the EDC gearbox also has the following functions:

  • Multi-Change Down: under braking in manual mode, this feature lets the driver drop several gears simultaneously by pressing and holding down the left-hand paddle. The best gear is then selected to exit the corner as efficiently as possible.
  • Launch Control: the clutch and turbo are pre-loaded, enabling a standing start that is just as quick as in a racing car. In Sport mode, traction control provides the driver with additional support in finding the best possible grip in slippery conditions.

RENAULT MEGANE IV R.S. (BFB RS)For Malaysia, the Renault MEGANE R.S. is available with the CUP chassis, which incorporates a new Torsen mechanical and limited-slip differential for improved handling during acceleration as well as deceleration. Renault’s chassis and suspension system engineers have pushed the limits even further by introducing the 4CONTROL four-wheel steering system, a world’s first-in-segment technology that further improves cornering efficiency. The system automatically adjusts the rear wheels to point in the same direction as the front wheels up to one degree at higher speeds and in the opposite direction up to 2.7 degrees at lower speeds. This switchover point is set at 60 km/h or 100 km/h in Race mode.

2017 - Nouvelle Renault MEGANE R.S.A second brand new feature is the addition of four hydraulic compression stops, a rallying-inspired technology, to all shock absorbers. In addition to improving the comfort of the suspension in day-to-day driving, these hydraulic bump stops also filter out disruptions when adopting a sportier driving style, providing additional damping and eliminating the effects of rebound, which enables optimum control of tyre-ground contact.

In addition to new technologies, strong core components featured in previous generations have been retained and upgraded in this new Renault MEGANE R.S. five-door hot hatch.

Included in the MEGANE R.S. since 2004, the independent steering-axis front suspension epitomises Renault Sport’s expertise in chassis and suspension systems. Initially designed for use in motorsport, the independent steering-axis front suspension has been adapted to powerful front-wheel-drive cars, especially when they are also fitted with a limited-slip differential.

All-New Renault MEGANE R.S.The front axle of the All-new Renault MEGANE R.S. 280 CUP has been entirely redesigned to adapt the negative offset geometry to the width of the 19-inch wheels and increase rigidity. The braking system has also been improved, offering greater power, endurance and confidence to the driver. The diameter of the front brake discs has been increased to 355 mm (+15 mm bigger than the previous generation). Bi-material aluminium/cast iron discs help reduce the weight per wheel by 1.8 kg while improving cooling during intensive use. The brake pedal setting focuses on the accuracy of the pressure applied, enabling drivers to remain in complete control, especially on the racetrack.

The R.S. Monitor has also been completely revised, with a more user-friendly layout and more powerful features. This state-of-the-art onboard telemetry and data acquisition system gathers and summarises information from forty or so sensors throughout the car, enabling the real-time display of a wide range of settings on the 8.7″ R-LINK 2 touchscreen tablet. Through this system, drivers can reliably check driving data such as acceleration, braking, yaw, steering angle, operation of the 4CONTROL system, temperatures and pressures.

Physically, the side wings have been widened by 60 mm at the front and 45 mm at the back. Ride height has also been lowered by 5 mm and with new 19″ wheels to give the car a more aggressive posture. The car’s  powerful design has adapted a number of features from the world of motorsport:

  • A wide air intake in the front bumper that incorporates the F1-style front blade, a hallmark of Renault Sport styling that reflects the brand’s involvement in Formula 1. The blade’s Gun Metal Grey satin-finish colour contrasts with the brilliant shine of the bodywork
  • A 3D honeycomb-pattern grill mesh reinterpreted by Renault Sport
  • Sculpted, sensual body sides inherited from the design of Renault MEGANE are accentuated by the wider front and rear tracks
  • Wing-mounted air extractors, which optimise airflow through the wheel arches
  • A side sill establishes a link between the front and the rear, the black blade of which evokes the undertray of a Formula 1 car
  • A redesigned, narrower rear spoiler to improve aerodynamic performance. Whilst emphasising the width of the car, the vertical vents contribute to aerodynamic efficiency by providing improved lateral airflow
  • A rear bumper with a built-in diffuser and the iconic central exhaust that has come to epitomise MEGANE R.S. 280 CUP, enhanced by a decorative trim
  • Improved efficiency of the diffuser compared with the previous generation. Whilst boosting the sporty feel of the design, this aerodynamic component helps to increase downforce
  • The Brembo® brake callipers, painted red on the Cup chassis so that they are instantly recognisable to enthusiasts
  • R.S. Vision high-performance lighting, unique in this market segment, that combine four functions: sidelights, cornering lights, fog lights and long-range high beam lights

Test drives are available at selected Renault showrooms by appointment only and can be requested via the Renault Malaysia website.

In early 2018, Hino Motors and GD Express Sdn Bhd revealed four units of Hino trucks in GDEx’s fleet that had clocked 1,000,000 kilometres without the need for an engine overhaul. And as one of the leading courier services companies in Malaysia, and with the rise of online shopping, it’s just a matter of time before more GDEx trucks hit the 1 million kilometre milestone.

Earlier this week, another Hino truck in the GD Express fleet was presented with a Certificate of Reliability by Hino Motors Sales Malaysia Sdn Bhd (HMSM) for reaching 1,000,000 km without undergoing an engine overhaul. This Hino 300 series light duty truck has been in service since 2006 and caters to long and line haul routes in Ayer Keroh and other parts of the southern region. On average this truck has clocked 76,923 km annually (or 6,410 km a month).

GD Express Sdn Bhd_Teong Teck Lean_Managing Director_MalaysiaWith such heavy use, there is little margin for downtime so reliability of the machinery as well as aftersales service is key to keeping the truck on the road. According to Teong Teck Lean, Managing Director of GD Express, the milestone achievement of this truck is testament to the strength and value of Hino Total Support philosophy which emphasises ‘Maximum Vehicle Uptime; Minimise Vehicle Lifetime Cost’.

A truck’s reliability is also enhanced by the owner’s adherence to the servicing and maintenance schedules as well as the driver’s treatment of the truck. The driver of the truck which clocked 1,000,000 km, Zul Amali, was also presented with a commemorative t-shirt to mark this achievement.

Hino Motors Sales Malaysia_Atsushi Uchiyama_Managing Director“Trucks are originally made for light- and heavy-duty work as well as for long haul trips and the reliability of a truck is one of the main concerns that every business owner is looking for. Travelling for one million kilometres without the need to undergo an engine overhaul is not only proving the reliability of the truck but also shows the credibility of Hino Total Support Value,” commented Atsushi Uchiyama, Managing Director of HMSM when presenting the certificate to GDEx.

“The advances in safety and additional features, coupled to the Axia’s renowned fuel efficiency, practicality, spaciousness, low ownership costs, ease to drive and dependability while maintaining its affordability, mean it now offers more value than ever before,” said Dato’ Zainal.

On the new STYLE variant, Dato’ Zainal said, “Perodua is taking a bold new step with the Axia STYLE, a new addition to the Axia family that will appeal to the fun and active side of your personality – stay tuned!”

To celebrate Malaysia’s 62nd Merdeka, Proton has released the Proton X70 Merdeka Edition (ME), with a limited production run of only 62 units. Unveiled at the Ming Heng Motor Proton 4S dealership in Setapak, the X70 ME is a variation of the Premium variant and is priced at RM126,100. It comes in either Snow White or Flame Red. Judging by the current demand for the X70, the company expects this limited run to sell fairly quickly.

The X70 ME is mechanically identical to the regular X70 Premium, but differentiated in trim and exterior styling. For the exterior, a signature Quartz Black paint is added to the roof and A-pillars. “The Proton X70 Merdeka Edition was born out of PROTON’s desire to celebrate Malaysia’s Merdeka anniversary month. We are extremely thankful for the support Malaysian car buyers and the Malaysian government has shown to PROTON, so this is the Company’s way of creating a special version of the Proton X70 as a small gesture of thanks to all Malaysians,” said Dr Li Chunrong, CEO of PROTON.

The 2019 Ramadhan Raya promotion campaign by Goodyear Malaysia saw the company receive about 4,000 entries between the promotion period of 1 May and 30 June 2019. The campaign was started with the aim to advocate road safety with the replacement of worn tyres with new tyres from reputable brands, particularly at a time when many will be driving long distances for the festive season. This echoes the concern that the Ministry of Works has for road safety, after releasing its findings that showed up to 10,000 accidents occur on the roads due to retreaded tyres.

Goodyear Assurance TripleMax 2 with HydroTred Technology_MalaysiaChee Lip Choon, Sales Director of Goodyear Malaysia said: “The importance of car safety and tyre health cannot be downplayed. For this reason, we have made it our global commitment to encourage being safe on the road by closely monitoring the state of your tyres. We hope that our 2019 Ramadhan Raya Promo Campaign would have given many Malaysians the opportunity to purchase new tyres during the long drive home throughout the recent Hari Raya and help spread awareness on when and how to change your car’s tyres.”

Goodyear_2019 Ramadhan Raya Promo Campaign_Honda City_Winner_MalaysiaAmong the participants of this promotion, Shamsuddin bin Abdul Jalil was selected as the lucky person to walk away with the grand prize i.e. a brand new Honda City and a 10-year supply of Goodyear tyres.

I still can’t believe it and cannot thank Goodyear enough for this, it is good to know that my practice of replacing worn tyres to Goodyear’s Assurance TripleMax 2 during the festive holidays paid off in the best ways – my family and I were kept safe and we even got a new car!,” said Shamsuddin.

The Road to 900,000th Unit Milestone campaign is to commemorate Honda Malaysia’s milestone of achieving 900,000 sales units, which is targeted to be fulfilled in the month of September this year. It is also Honda’s way of rewarding Malaysians for supporting the Honda Malaysia since its commencement of operations here in 2002.

Honda Malaysia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Toichi Ishiyama said, “To celebrate this momentous achievement of reaching 900,000 sales units, Honda Malaysia would like to share the joy of this milestone through the Road to 900,000th Unit Milestone Campaign.”

Nine very lucky Malaysians are going to get their hands on models like the Jazz, City, BR-V, HR-V, City Hybrid, HR-V Hybrid, Civic, CR-V and the Accord.

With most campaigns organized by automotive companies, there is usually a purchase required, but this one does not require any purchase, and you do not even have to be an existing customer. All Malaysians aged 18 and above are qualified to enter the contest attached to the campaign, and there are no purchases necessary, nor is there any necessity to write slogans.

93822Here is how you can participate and win in the Road to 900,000th Unit Milestone campaign:-

  • Go to any authorized Honda Showroom – all 90 showrooms in Malaysia are ready to receive entries.
  • Register using your I/C Number and Scan a QR Code (provided at the dealership) or visit Honda.com.my/microsite/900k, and you will be directed to the site. Follow the simple instructions to register.

Once you have registered, the idea is to get as many ‘tickets’ as possible, as each ticket represents a chance to win a car. There is a maximum of five (5) tickets that one can collect, and five ways to get them, as follows:-

  1. Find and take a photo of any one of nine ‘emblems’ hidden in the Honda Dealership, take a picture of it, and upload to the micro-site using your registered password. This entitles you to one ticket.
  2. Go for a test drive of any one of your favourite Honda cars, and that will give you your second ticket.
  • To get your third ticket, you have to sign an order for any Honda model.
  1. A fourth ticket shall be assigned to you if take delivery in the contest period, and
  2. A fifth ticket shall be given to you if you send in your new Honda car for a service within the contest period.

Non-purchasers have a chance to get two (2) tickets, simply by taking a picture of one of the hidden emblems and going for a test drive. Purchasers can get three (3) additional tickets. Maximum number of tickets allowed per individual is five.

As additional information, this is what we have found out:-

  1. Non-Malaysians are not allowed to participate.
  2. You cannot get more tickets by registering in different dealerships, and the system will ‘kick’ out your multiple entries and retain just one.
  3. The contest is open only to individuals (non-corporate)

Good luck to everybody – go get your chance now, and let us know if you win!
