Perodua_Axia_StyleAccording to its records, three of Perodua’s models top Malaysia’s vehicle sales chart for the first seven months of 2020. Perodua’s year-to-date sales performance saw 29,313 units of Myvi, 28,107 Axia and 25,416 Bezza sold. The company’s YTD (July) sales total 97,373 vehicles.

For the month of July 2020, Perodua registered 23,203 vehicles, beating its June performance by 9.2%. The carmaker estimates its July and YTD market shares to be 40% and 42% respectively. This upbeat performance is expected to continue for the rest of the year as consumer sentiment remains soft. It is natural that in such economic conditions, consumers are willing to ‘buy down’ to easily accessible and pocket-friendly models.

Perodua Myvi AV_Electric Blue_Rear View“The Perodua Myvi, Malaysia’s best-selling vehicle every year since 2006, has recently been upgraded with the latest Advanced Safety Assist (ASA) 2.0 suite of driver assistance safety systems. It remains one of the most affordable cars with advanced safety features in the country,” said Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

“Since our operations restarted after a two-month Movement Control Order (MCO) closure, our volume has rebounded swiftly, aided by the government’s sales tax exemption which will run until year-end. Should this encouraging trend continue, the healthy volume will enable us to further bolster Malaysia’s automotive ecosystem of suppliers and dealers in this time of need,” he added.

According to Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) estimates, a total industry volume (TIV) of at least 500,000 units is needed this year to ensure the continued survival of the automotive ecosystem.

Perodua_President & CEO_Dato' Zainal Abidin Ahmad“Amidst the COVID-19 crisis, we understand that we must work to our fullest capacity to help shore up the Malaysian economy and ensure jobs are protected. As the market leader, Perodua’s utmost priority is to continue providing the best products and services to ensure maximum customer satisfaction. We are committed to continue offering better value propositions to all Malaysians in the forms of affordability, quality, technology and the latest advanced features,” said Dato’ Zainal.

There has been quite some activity and news on pick-up trucks lately. No surprise here as Malaysians favour its practical and robust nature, as well as acceptable price points. Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) recently revealed that the company’s sales performance for the year has been helped along by the Mitsubishi Triton, its bestseller.

Mitsubishi Triton Knight Front Bumper Grille and Body StickersMMM, the official distributor of Mitsubishi Motors vehicles in Malaysia, announced positive sales performance for the first seven months of 2020. From January to July, the company sold a total of 4,008 units. This helped to grow the company’s market share to 1.7% of Total Industry Volume (TIV), from 1.4% in the period in 2019.

The Mitsubishi Triton pick-up truck achieved a 22.2% market share (January – July 2020) which is an increase over the corresponding period in 2019 (16.9%). The Triton is also currently ranked number one in the double-cab pick-up truck segment in three states i.e. Melaka, Penang and Kedah.

“MMM is Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia_Tomoyuki Shinnishi_CEOpleased to see positive sales take off after being under pressure by the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. This is driven largely by the 100% sales tax exemption from the government which applies to both our locally-assembled SUVs the ASX Compact SUV and Outlander seven-seater SUV. The good sales also reveal brand and customer’s loyalty in these very tough times,” said Tomoyuki Shinnishi, Chief Executive Officer of MMM.

MMM have also recently announced that the company will be launching the new Mitsubishi Xpander later this year.

Mitsubishi XPANDER_Front View“MMM is very excited for a thrilling year ahead with the introduction of the Mitsubishi Xpander. The seven-seater crossover will provide us with a solid base to maintain strong sales momentum until the end of the year. The demand and success of the new Mitsubishi Xpander in our neighbouring ASEAN countries reflects on how well-suited this car is to meet the needs of customers and we’re confident that this impressive Xpander will capture the heart of Malaysians,” added Shinnishi.

In the run-up to the Xpander launch, selected Mitsubishi showrooms will be upgraded to Mitsubishi Motor’s latest Visual Identity to maintain the company’s number one position in providing excellent customer service.

Maximum output is now 204 PS @ 3,400 rpm (+27 PS) and torque is 500 Nm @ 1,600 – 2,800 rpm (+50 Nm).

Although there is an increase in engine power, it does not negatively impact fuel consumption. On the contrary, fuel efficiency has improved due to the use of a 2-stage oil pump that can optimally switch the oil pressure. Additionally, a water-cooled double-pipe type pre-EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) cooler has been installed to optimize the EGR gas temperature.

Meanwhile, the power-assisted rack and pinion steering system for the new Hilux (except for the Single Cab variant) now has a Variable Flow Control (VFC) system which reduces demand on the power steering pump, thus benefiting fuel economy. The feel is lighter at low speeds for easier parking manoeuvers easier, and is heavier at higher speeds for a more confident feel.

Toyota Hilux 2020_Toyota Safety SenseThe new Hilux also comes with Auto Limited Slip Differential (LSD) to aid traction by using the traction control system (TRC) to control braking and engine output when one of the rear wheels start to spin. The Auto LSD system is available only when in the High range and in 2WD, at speeds up to 50 km/h.

For safety, the Hilux will get the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) system. The TSS system consists of three systems i.e. Pre-Collision System (PCS), Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), with Yaw Assist.

Isuzu D-Max Stealth_Launch_Nakamura (left) and SuzukiIsuzu Malaysia has introduced a limited edition version of its popular D-Max pick-up truck. The D-Max Stealth is based on the 4×4 Premium variant with the Blue Power diesel engine. The D-Max Stealth is priced from RM125,799.20 in Peninsular Malaysia, RM128,176.20 in Sabah and RM128,220.30 in Sarawak (on the road without insurance). It also comes with a special 7-year unlimited mileage warranty.

Isuzu D-Max Stealth_Silky White Pearl_Black Stallion Metallic_WheelAvailable in Stallion Black Metallic and Silky White Pearl, the D-Max Stealth runs counter to its name. It is however limited to an exclusive 180 units and so will be quite hard to spot. It also commemorates the 15th anniversary of the D-Max in Malaysia.

The exclusiveness comes not just with the limited number, but a host of extras. Instantly obvious is the use of a black finish on the usual chrome parts. This includes the front grille, headlamps, fog lamp and bumper garnish, roof rails and rear bumpers.

Isuzu D-Max Stealth_Limited EditionThe front grille also features a silver accent line that cuts across from headlamp to headlamp with a matching line running through the new front spoiler. This changes the front look of the D-Max Stealth and makes it distinct from the regular variants. Rounding off the appearance is the special two-tone 18″ alloy rims with an embossed Stealth logo. Reflective “Stealth” decals also dress the sides of the D-Max.

Isuzu D-Max Stealth_Retractable Side Step_Welcome LightPhysical convenience features of the D-Max Stealth are its showpiece retractable side steps and assisted tailgate. The retractable side steps are automated and the first of its kind offered as standard on a pick-up truck. The side steps deploys when the door is opened and retract when closed. This allows for easy ingress and egress into the tall vehicle. There are welcome lights to illuminate the side steps when it is deployed.

Meanwhile, the tailgate uses a torsion bar to give it a feather-touch assist feature. This allows for nearly everyone to easily open and close the tailgate.

Inside, the D-Max wears striking red and black seats in a mix of premium leather and fabric, and with the Stealth logo stitched on. The headlining is dark grey while the trim is a piano black finish. Other Stealth branded items in the cabin include the coil floor mats.

One of the driving convenience features is the Around View Monitor with 3D image guide. Using four exterior cameras, this system enables easy manouevering with its bird’s eye view or 3D view when Reverse gear is selected. You can also activate this manually via the AVM button on the dashboard.

Coupled with this is the additional front parking sensor that allows for easier positioning of the vehicle in tight spots. It activates when the vehicle begins to move and shuts off when you reach 25 km/h. It will then reactivate when you slow down to 20 km/h. You can also opt to shut this off manually for when you are driving slowly near low objects or off-road.

For added safety, the D-Max Stealth also includes front and rear digital video recorders (DVR), a first-in-class. These cameras start recording full HD footage once the engine starts. Using motion detectors, it can also record when the vehicle is parked and there is movement detected within its 140° angle of view, or when it senses an impact. The camera can also playback on your phone via WiFi and the IROAD app. Other conveniences include USB ports in the front (2x) and rear (1x).

Isuzu_1.9 Blue Power_Diesel Engine_D-MaxPowering the D-Max Stealth is Isuzu’s 1.9L Ddi Blue Power turbo diesel engine. The engine is currently the smallest for a pick-up truck in Malaysia. However, it packs a very practical 150 PS and 350 Nm of torque. It provides a balance between performance and fuel efficiency, and enables the D-Max to be certified an EEV (energy efficient vehicle).

Early bird buyers of the Isuzu D-Max Stealth (private registration) who register the vehicle in August will be entitled to a free sports roll bar or the option to purchase a T-Lid Cover valued at RM5,500 for just RM2,000 (while stocks last).

“Customers seeking one of the most dependable and capable pick-up trucks in the market today can now arrive in distinctive style with the new Isuzu D-Max Stealth. The stylish exterior is equally matched by striking interior designs that embolden the vehicle, offering urban drivers an elevated presence on the road,” said Chief Operating Officer of Isuzu Malaysia Masayuki Suzuki.
