Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has officiated the roll-out of the locally assembled Mitsubishi Outlander 2.0L SUV. The Outlander is assembled at the Tan Chong Motors Assemblies plant in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur, which also assembles the Mitsubishi ASX. Local assembly activities are overseen by Mitsubishi Motors Corporation personnel who are based at the plant to look after quality control and processes. Incidentally, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation is part of the Renault-Nissan Alliance; Tan Chong is the brand custodian of Renault and Nissan in Malaysia.

Mitsubishi Outlander 2.0L Engine Bay, Malaysia 2017The locally assembled Outlander is fitted with a 2.0L DOHC MIVEC engine which has an output of 145 PS and 196 Nm of torque, paired to an INVECS III CVT (continuously variable transmission); the 2.4L variant continues to be sold as CBU (completely built-up) from Japan.

Like the Outlander 2.4L, the Outlander 2.0L is also 4-wheel-drive, something Mitsubishi is proud of with their experiences in the Dakar Rally with 4-wheel-drive vehicles. The intelligent electronic Multi-Select 4WD system has 3 selectable modes i.e. 4WD Eco, 4WD Auto and 4WD Lock, for different driving conditions and terrain. MMM claims fuel economy for the Outlander 2.0L is 13.7 km per liter, slightly better than the 2.4L’s 13.0 km per liter.

Mitsubishi Outlander 2.0L Exterior, Local Assembly, Malaysia 2017Looks-wise, the Outlander 2.0L retains the brand’s Dynamic Shield face but gets automatic projector headlamps instead of the 2.4L’s LED headlamps, yet still retains the LED daytime running lights and LED tail lights. It also uses the same 18″ alloy wheels as the 2.4L.

Standard equipment includes rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry, push button start, 7″ HD touchscreen infotainment display with Apple CarPlay connectivity (the screen also has Air Gesture Control), dual zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, reverse camera, digital video recorder, and security solar film for all windows.

This 7-seater SUV also boasts a best-in-class cargo volume of 1,608 liters with the 2nd and 3rd row seats folded. There are 3 color choices – Red Metallic, Solar White and Ruby Black. The latter is a new color for the Outlander and is exclusive to the Malaysian market.

“Today is a very proud day for Mitsubishi in Malaysia, as we get to celebrate our second locally assembled vehicle here. The locally assembled ASX has been successful for us, and we hope that the Outlander will be very well received by the martket too,” said Mr. Tomoyuki Shinnishi, Chief Executive Officer of MMM.

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia CEO Tomoyuki Shinnishi, Outlander 2.0L Local Assembly“The Outlander SUV boasts outstanding safety and space for the family, and the move to locally assemble a new 2.0L variant makes the SUV even more affordable for Malaysians. We assure that there’s no difference in quality between locally assembled and imported units,” he added.

While it is lacking paddle shifters, leather seats, electric tailgate and sunroof of the 2.4L variant, the Outlander 2.0L has a competitive introductory price of RM 139,988 (on the road without insurance; valid until end 2017). It is also covered by a 5-year / unlimited mileage warranty.

Volvo S90 T8 Twin Engine Inscription Rear ViewVolvo Car Malaysia has opened its order books for the locally assembled Volvo S90 T8 Twin Engine Inscription prior to its official launch, with a special introductory price of RM 348,888 (on-the-road without insurance). This S90 T8 Twin Engine comes out of Volvo Cars’ Shah Alam facility and will complement the existing V90 and S90 T6 R-Design, and introduce the Inscription trim level, the most luxurious trim level available for Malaysia, to the S90 range. The “Twin Engine” term is used by Volvo to indicate its use of a hybrid powertrain.

“The S90 T8 Twin Engine Inscription is our expression of luxury, performance and class-leading technologies and with an absolutely competitive price, it will be the best offer within the Premium DE Segment in Malaysia,” said Lennart Stegland, the Managing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia.

Volvo S90 T8 Twin Engine Inscription Open For Booking, Malaysia 2017Stegland adds, “our approach with Plug-in Hybrids Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) is a totally different from what is currently available in the market; by placing the hybrid battery in the tunnel, it does not only lower the centre of gravity and improve handling, it also leaves precious cargo space in the sedan unaffected.”

The T8 Twin Engine powertrain has a total output of 407 hp and 640 Nm of torque that is managed by an 8-speed automatic transmission. This gets the S90 T8 from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8s. With the front wheels powered by the internal combustion engine (ICE) and the rear wheels independently propelled by an electric motor, power delivery will be instantaneous and the car is effectively all-wheel-drive.

More details on the car’s specifications will be available after the official launch.Volvo S90 T8 Twin Engine Inscription Charging Port & Cable, Malaysia

Incidentally, the locally assembled S90 T8 Twin Engine will also be exported to selected regional markets, like the XC90 T8 Twin Engine. With its capability to assemble electrified Volvos, the Malaysian production plant has secured its place within Volvo’s global electrification strategy which will eventually see all Volvo models launched with some level of electrification.

The Mitsubishi Triton VGT AT GL is the latest variant to the Triton range made available by Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM), the official distributor of Mitsubishi vehicles in Malaysia. The Triton VGT AT GL is imported from Thailand and is based on the Triton VGT AT variant and is catered to those looking for an affordable pick-up truck for daily use.

The Triton VGT AT GL is priced at RM 103,800 (on the road without insurance) and is covered by a 200,000 km / 5 years warranty; the only pick-up truck (up to 2.4L) to offer this duration. It comes with a dark chrome front grille, sidesteps and 16’ alloy wheels. This new variant is also fitted with 2-Din Audio, a 4WD selector and climate control.

Mitsubishi Triton VGT AT GL 4x4 Pick-Up Truck, Malaysia 2017The Triton VGT AT GL is powered by the latest 2.4-litre MIVEC turbodiesel engine with Variable Valve Timing technology. The Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT) allows it to produce 181 PS and 430 Nm of torque. This is achieved through MIVEC’s finer control of the engine valves for improved performance; the lightweight aluminum alloy block helps keeps weight down. The engine also uses a timing chain for lower maintenance costs and a longer service lifespan. It is claimed to have minimum levels of noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) for a comfortable drive and further enhancing the Triton’s car-like refinement. The Triton’s turning radius is also claimed to be best-in-class at 5.9 meters.

Safety kit includes Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Active Stability Control, Traction Control and Hill-Start Assist (HSA) and Trailer Stability Assists (TSA), as well as the Active Stability & Traction Control (ASTC) system that assists in keeping the vehicle in control during oversteer and understeer situations, or in slippery and rugged conditions, by maintaining traction.

The strong chassis of the Triton also helps to ensure better drivability and greater durability with day-to-day usage of heavy loading (tested up to 1 tonne) on rough terrains, great for those who are looking for a workhorse.
