Malaysia is not in the clear yet with the coronavirus pandemic. But as the country gets its economy going again, the need for Personal Protective Equipment remains crucial. As such, Perodua had decided to continue with its public protection initiative. In line with its corporate social responsibility to the local community, Perodua recently distributed 10,000 face shields within the Hulu Selangor district and Selayang municipality.

The recipients in Hulu Selangor include the District Health Office, the community and dental clinics, enforcers from the District Council’s (MDHS) Licensing Department, as well as various morning and night market traders.

Perodua also contributed face shields to the Selayang Municipal Council’s (MPS) Licensing and Enforcement Departments, which helped to distribute the face shields to the hawkers and street traders in the area.

“Perodua’s face shield contributions are our way of giving back to the surrounding communities who have supported and made us feel at home for the past 27 years,” Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad said.

“As a People First company and a good corporate citizen, Perodua cares very much for the safety, health and well-being of the general public in these COVID-19 times. We have given out over 21,000 face shields to date – we hope they will be worn conscientiously and diligently by those going about their daily duties, bravely continuing to give all of us the services, healthcare and provisions we need,” he added.

Perodua had given out about 11,000 face shields to secondary schools in Putrajaya and Hulu Selangor last month. Manufactured by an associate of Perodua’s, the face shields feature a fog-resistant visor made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) for optimal visibility, and fitted with sponge cushioning at the forehead as a barrier against airborne droplets.

“We are not out of the woods yet in our battle against COVID-19. We hope Malaysians will continue to adopt and adapt to the new normal by exercising caution and complying with all the government’s health and safety guidelines,” said Dato’ Zainal.

Positive response from the aftermarket community towards the Braking System Expert Programme has led to the development and set up of a Bahasa Malaysia version of a Brembo website. This particular Brembo SpA aftermarket website marks the first time in Southeast Asia that the global brake disc and pad technology company uses a local language.

Madani Sahari, Chief Executive Officer; with reps from Emerald Auto Parts (right): Sharon Wee, Director; Hong Lee Ching, Managing Director; Lim Hung Hooi, General Manager; Chew Kai San, Sales Director.

Incidentally, the Braking System Expert Programme is an important milestone in the strategic collaboration between the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) and Emerald Auto Parts Sdn Bhd, which is the official partner of Brembo. This collaboration started in November 2019 as a sub-programme in MARii’s own Workshop Transformation Programme.

“This website is an acknowledgement of the capabilities and achievements of the local aftermarket sector. It increases access towards strengthening the fundamentals and skills of more experts in the field of braking systems, through its presentation in our national language”, said Dato’ Madani Sahari, CEO MARii.

He also mentioned that using the Bahasa Malaysia medium will stimulate the participation of talents from all levels of society, stimulating collective growth and improvement across the aftermarket value chain.

The Braking System Expert Programme has seen participation of about 1,000 aftermarket professionals from over 800 workshops nationwide in the first two months of 2020. The key aim of the programme is to enhance knowledge, technical and management skills of participants in the areas of complex vehicle braking and safety systems, high-efficiency maintenance of vehicle parts and components, and quality control through transfer of knowledge from certified trainers of Brembo.

Emerald Auto had worked on localising the website with the objective of educating, promoting, and acknowledging the local aftermarket community through the Bahasa Malaysia language.

Brembo_Brake_Caliper_Disc“The website will be a good educational platform in the areas of braking systems and safety information, allowing Malaysians to access trending global news and information personalized for them in the Bahasa Malaysia language.”, said Hong Lee Ching, Managing Director of Emerald Auto.

Despite its reputation as a premium manufacturer of braking products for high-performance vehicles, Brembo also emphasizes high quality yet affordable aftermarket products designed for passenger vehicles, including PROTON and Perodua models.

“Brembo as a global leader in brake system technology, products, and service sees the partnership with our official partner in Malaysia, Emerald Auto Parts as valuable and sustainable. The initiative of the Bahasa Malaysia version of our website shows the power of our long-standing partnership. Malaysia is a chosen destination for Brembo to penetrate South East Asia (SEA) market mainly because of Malaysia’s maturity in aftermarket sector, efficient infrastructure, and great support from the government agency, MARii,” said Eric Ni, Brembo Asia Pacific General Manager (Aftermarket).

The availability of a localised Brembo website increases accessibility to curated global news and updates surrounding braking and safety systems, allowing the aftermarket community and the public to keep themselves updated with the latest and best practices implemented by world-renowned automotive companies.

GoCar Subs_Car Subscription_MalaysiaWith the revamp, GoCar Subs has extended its fleet of vehicle options i.e. sedans, crossover SUVs, MPVs, and pick-up trucks. It has also opened up its fleet portfolio to include local, Japanese and continental makes such as Perodua, Proton, Nissan, Toyota, Honda, Volkswagen and Renault.

All vehicles in its fleet are independently inspected to ensure they are in good condition and meet the standards that customers are looking for.

Subscription plan options now include weekly, monthly, 12-monthly, 24-monthly or 36-monthly duration. Naturally, the longer the contract period, the more affordable the costs. All fees include comprehensive insurance, road tax, regular servicing and maintenance, and independently rated car inspection. Since this is a subscription programme, GoCar Subs customers also need not worry about hefty down payments, loan interest rates, vehicle depreciation or being locked-in to a long-term loan commitment.

Furthermore, GoCar Subs has launched a free-consultation module, where you have the option of selling your car to GoCar Subs. This will allow you to have up to six months* of subscription fees paid for through the trade-in. Moreover, you have the option to select from the cars available in GoCar Subs garage, or even choose to subscribe to your own ex-car. The best part of this arrangement is that you have the flexibility in cancelling your subscription at any time.

This effectively frees you from long-term loans, interest fees and the worry of vehicle depreciation. According to the statistics provided by the Department of Statistics Malaysia, car loans are one of the main causes of bankruptcy in Malaysia.

GoCarSubs_Malaysia_Sell Your Car & Subscribe_FreedomWith GoCar Subs, you will have the freedom and flexibility and none of the worries of ownership, as the subscription fee is not reflected in CCRIS. Additionally, GoCar Subs offers you the freedom of access to an affordable vehicle without having to commit for long periods.

Additionally, through the GoCar Subs website (www.gocarsubs.com), you can register for a new subscription account, select your vehicle and subscription plan, complete the subscription process, track your subscription status online and manage your subscription payments. All applications will be processed within 24 hours. Once approved, you will receive your car and start your subscription within 14 days.

Those interested in a free consultation can also submit details to the GoCar Subs website. A designated product consultant will be in contact within 24 hours to provide assistance.

For added convenience and safety, GoCar Subs is also offering door-to-door service for vehicle delivery as well as maintenance pick-up and return. This is a free service available to subscribers within the Klang Valley who subscribe for plans 12 months and longer. You can be assured that all vehicles will be sanitised before they are returned.

Another new feature with GoCar Subs is the option for add-ons. The costs for add-on options can be amortised across your subscription for added convenience. Current offerings available include Singapore access for RM8 monthly (extended insurance coverage included), tinting from RM28 monthly and full accident protection for RM99 monthly (no excess fees will be charged in the event of an accident).

Rolls-Royce_Wraith Kryptos CollectionThe cars in the Rolls-Royce Collection represent the poetic embodiment of artistry and skill, envisioned at the hands of the marque’s accomplished designers. They are fine examples of the Bespoke Collective’s mastery of their craft, and are extremely limited in number. Design is naturally the starting point for these endeavours. And for the new Rolls-Royce Wraith Kryptos Collection, one designer’s passion for cryptography led to Wraith becoming a willing canvas for an intricate and puzzling clandestine design.

Rolls-Royce Collection Cars are executed with creative passion and technical precision. And the Wraith Kryptos Collection is no exception. Limited to just 50 motor cars, it incorporates a labyrinth of complex ciphers into its beguiling façade.

Rolls-Royce Wraith Kryptos Collection_Top View“The name Kryptos is derived from Ancient Greek, referring to something unseen, hidden and coded, mythical even. Ciphers can be traced through millennia, capturing the imagination of some of the world’s most brilliant minds,” commented Rolls-Royce Bespoke Designer, Katrin Lehmann.

“As a designer, I’ve always been fascinated by the notion that you can communicate messages that are understood by only an elite few, using symbols, pictograms, and ciphers. Finding the key becomes integral to appreciating the full meaning of an item that can otherwise be viewed simply as a work of art,” added Katrin.

The Wraith Kryptos Collection carries within it an encrypted cipher that evolves throughout the car for the clients’ pleasure and amusement. To the uninitiated, these ciphers appear, on the surface at least, to be an alluring design purely for aesthetic purposes and devoid of any discernible pattern. However, for those that look closer, those few who hold the key, they will embark on an experience that leads to an enlightening conclusion.

Rolls-Royce Wraith Kryptos Collection_Limited EditionTorsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, commented, “The brilliant and creative minds of our Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective have excelled once again, creating an extraordinarily contemporary and compelling iteration of Wraith. The Wraith Kryptos Collection, on first glance, is a statement of dynamism. On closer examination, a series of messages are hidden behind a unique Rolls-Royce cipher. I look forward to seeing whether any of our clients will crack the code!”

The code is such a closely guarded secret that only two people at the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood know the full resolution of the sequence i.e. the designer and the Chief Executive. The answer has been placed in a sealed envelope, in the safe of the Chief Executive Officer, at the Home of Rolls-Royce, in Goodwood, West Sussex. Clients will be invited to submit their efforts at cracking the code via the members only Rolls-Royce Application, Whispers.

The cryptographic journey begins with the Spirit of Ecstasy, which has graced the bonnet of the marque’s motor cars for over a century. An engraving with green enamel detailing introduces the Rolls-Royce cipher on the base of the enigmatic figurine.

Below, recrafted bumper inserts draw the eye lower, subtly modifying both the gesture and posture of Wraith, giving this Collection an identity of its own. The alluring colourway of the Collection hints at the car’s inner-most secrets. Delphic Grey, a Bespoke exterior hue consisting of a solid Anthracite base colour has a hidden effect i.e. the blue and green mica flakes appear only when exposed to sunlight.

This effect is accentuated by a hand-painted double coachline, the upper being painted in the newly developed Kryptos Green while the lower acts as a shadow in Dark Grey, both depicting clues relating to the interior code. Completing the exterior aesthetic are part polished wheels, with Orbit Grey coloured centres featuring a coloured pinstripe.

Rolls-Royce Wraith Kryptos Collection_Cabin_Dashboard_Steering WheelInside, stepping over the illuminated treadplates, the cipher evolves deep into the fabric of the motor car. One is immediately greeted by the accented Bespoke Kryptos Green leather hue, which has been developed to incorporate a metallic effect, set against either Selby Grey or Anthracite. In perhaps the most apparent clue, elements of the cipher are embroidered into Wraith’s headrests, where the customary ‘double-R’ emblem can so often be found. For the driver’s enjoyment, an intriguing screen print flows across the metal fascia, spanning the width of the interior.

Rolls-Royce Wraith Kryptos Collection_Interior_Seats_HeadlinerAdditionally, the Wraith Kryptos Collection features a beautifully elaborate, bi-coloured headliner depicting an in-motion data-stream inspired motif. Continuing this theme is the illuminated door pockets with Rolls-Royce woven leather and Kryptos Green threads, to reveal an unexpected and subtle illumination that fades towards the base of the pocket. The centre tunnel is exquisitely stitched, repeating the horizontal lines of the door pockets, also hinting towards the driver focused nature of this special motor car.

Rolls-Royce is proud to present this new generation of Collection Car. One that brings with it an intriguing yet entertaining challenge. Who will crack the code? And what answers will the code bring? Only time will tell.

Hino Poncho_Mini Bus_Persons With Disability_Causeway LinkThe Hino Poncho recently was introduced to Persons With Disability (PWD) in Johor where it is on a trial run. The test ride with PWD passengers was done in collaboration with Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) and Handal Indah Sdn Bhd. The PWD passengers representing Persatuan Sokongan Orang Kurang Upaya Johor Bahru were given a ride in the Poncho from Johor Bahru Sentral to Pandan bus stop.

Hino Poncho_Mini Bus_Wheelchair_PassengerThis was an opportunity for Hino Motors Sales (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd to introduce the Poncho mini bus as a viable mode of public transportation that has PWD-friendly features. The Hino Poncho is a compact bus measuring seven metres, giving it great manoeuvrability in congested urban areas.

The Poncho has a low floor and is equipped with features designed to benefit PWDs, senior citizens as well as children. It is designed with a height adjusting system that can lower the Poncho’s height by 50 mm to enhance accessibility at bus stops. The low-floor system allows for the lowest step of the mini bus to be nearly as low as the ground. When it goes into operation, the Poncho will be the first of its kind in Malaysia with such capability.

Hino Poncho_Johor_Causeway Link BusFurthermore, the bus chassis can be raised by up to 30 mm to improve driveability on rough roads.

Handal Indah operates the Causeway Link bus service and is one of the largest bus providers in Johor. The Poncho trial run was done along route 10B which covers JB City, Pelangi, Sentosa, Pandan, Taman Daya, and Taman Setia Indah.

For Mohd Saiful Razali who is from Jabatan Belia & Sukan Negeri Johor, it was his first ride on the Hino Poncho. According to him, the low-floor feature makes it easy for him to board the mini bus. Mohd Saiful is visually impaired.

Hino Poncho_Wheelchair AnchorAlso sharing a positive experience is Ermy Jeffry Jamil from Jabatan Tenaga Kerja Negeri Johor. Ermy, who is wheelchair-bound found the low floor with slide ramp easy to use and gives him the confidence to get on and off independently.

Currently, there are more than 2,000 HINO Ponchos plying the busy cities and narrow roads in Japan. It is designed to serve as an innovative community transport solution and to cater to the first and last-mile travel for commuters.

BMW Malaysia has launched its all-new BMW 1 Series, in sporty M135i xDrive form. Dubbed ‘The 1′, this is the sporty flagship of the third generation BMW 1 Series, its premium hatchback range.

BMW Group Malaysia_Harald Hoelzl_Managing Director“We are privileged to share with you the latest portfolio of premium compact vehicles from BMW Malaysia. At the pinnacle of this portfolio lies The 1 – all-new BMW M135i xDrive, also widely regarded as the benchmark for powerful hot-hatches around the world,” said Harald Hoelzl, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia.

“The BMW 1 Series has been at the forefront of premium compact driving standards for over a decade. The new sporty compact model, now combined with the iconic genes of BMW M, further exemplifies the dynamic, independent spirit of those who constantly innovate to achieve greater success – whether to inspire or be inspired. Indeed, the all-new BMW M135i xDrive has a strong character of its own,” Hoelzl added.

BMW M135i xDrive_2.0L TwinPower Turbo M Performance EngineThat strong character can be attributed to BMW Group’s most powerful 2.0L M Performance TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder engine powering the M135i. A maximum output of 306 hp and 450 Nm of torque goes to the four wheels via the xDrive all-wheel-drive system and 8-speed Steptronic sport transmission. The BMW M135i xDrive takes just 4.8 seconds to make the century sprint and reaches a top speed of 250 km/h.

BMW M135i xDrive_M Performance Brake_Front Alloy WheelThis sporty premium compact is fitted with M Sport suspension and M Sport brakes which offer excellent fade resistance and abundance of stopping power. The M135i xDrive is also equipped with Active Sound Design that amplifies the sound from the engine and modulates it for a sportier soundtrack without emitting increased external noise.

Further, the M135i xDrive comes with ARB technology (actuator contiguous wheel slip limitation), like the all-electric BMW i3s, which improves traction and enables noticeably more sensitive and faster interventions on the driven front axle. This is made possible by the slip control system positioned directly in the engine control unit, resulting in a shorter signal path with engine output imperceptibly reduced as soon as threat of wheel slip on the front wheels is detected.

The M135i also features a newly developed Torsen limited-slip differential integrated into the sport transmission to optimise traction by distributing power to individual wheels. It functions as a front differential, and channels power to the wheel with the most traction in fast corners. Additionally, the Torsen differential features a Launch Control mode that already puts the full peak torque of 450 Nm on tap in the first and second gear.

BMW M135i xDrive_Front ViewThe styling factor of the M135i xDrive includes a distinctive kidney grille in Cerium Grey with an exclusive mesh design that replaces the classical bars. For the first time in this model range, the kidney grilles are now merged in the middle. The adaptive LED headlights with high-beam assistant have a deeper slant to give it a more aggressive appearance.

BMW M135i xDrive_Rear_Tail Light_Diffuser_Exhaust_WheelFurther styling cues for this sporty flagship includes front and side air inlets, exterior mirror caps and 100 mm exhaust tailpipes in Cerium Grey. At the rear, 3D two-part tail lights with the classic BMW L-shape help extend the vehicle’s width visually. The M135i also comes exclusively with a BMW M rear spoiler and newly designed 19″ light alloy wheels in V-spoke Style 557 M Bicolour.

The cockpit of the M135i features ‘Illuminated Boston’ interior trim finishers and Leather Dakota upholstery. Characteristic M elements adorn the Sport seats, seat belts, and leather steering wheel. Electrically-adjustable front seats with driver’s seat memory function, two-zone climate control and the BMW Individual Headliner Anthracite are also included. These are complemented by wireless charging along with the 16-speaker Harman Kardon surround sound system.

The new architecture allows for a redesigned cabin that is more spacious to maximize comfort, despite a shorter wheelbase. The M135i has grown in width (+34 mm) and height (+13 mm) compared to its predecessor, allowing for additional knee and elbow room. Thanks to the space-saving rear-axle design, luggage capacity has also increased to 380 litres (+20 litres).

Additionally, the BMW Live Cockpit Professional features the BMW Operating System 7.0 with a customisable 10.25″ Instrument Display and high-resolution 10.25″ touchscreen Control Display. Other key features include the BMW Digital Key, Apple CarPlay, Remote Software Upgrade and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.

Assistance is offered by the BMW Personal CoPilot which features the Driving Assistant, Parking Assistant and Reversing Assistant. The Driving Assistant includes Lane Change Warning, Crossing Traffic Warning at the rear, Rear Collision Warning and Speed Limit Assist.
