Mitsubishi XPANDER_MalaysiaThe Mitsubishi XPANDER MPV has contributed to Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia’s (MMM) record sales performance for the month of April 2021. The official distributor of Mitsubishi Motors vehicles in Malaysia saw a historical high last month with 1,872 vehicles sold.

The company’s sales has been on an upward trend since January 2021 and it looks set to hold on to its top three position in the non-national brand ranking for the fourth consecutive month.

In April 2021, MMM sold 982 units of the Mitsubishi XPANDER which makes up 52% of the company’s sales for the month. The locally assembled XPANDER continues to dominate the non-national MPV segment. The company has received more than 10,000 bookings since its launch in November 2020. MMM has since delivered 3,800 units to buyers in Malaysia.

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia_XPANDER Roll Out_Pekan Assembly Plant“We are very pleased that the Mitsubishi XPANDER sales remain healthy and its demand is ahead of the number of units supplied. Despite the challenges we are facing with the recently announced Movement Control Order (MCO) or even with the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) prior to MCO, we are continuing our best efforts to meet with the strong demand for the XPANDER by increasing our production capacity while maintaining a high level of product quality,” said Tomoyuki Shinnishi, Chief Executive Officer of MMM.

Mitsubishi Triton Athlete_Sun Flare Orange PearlMeanwhile, the Mitsubishi Triton pick-up truck maintains its market share of about 20% in the segment. The Triton stays as one of the preferred choices for consumers looking for pick-up trucks despite stiffer competition from newly launched models. In April, MMM sold 680 units of Triton and has thus far delivered 142 units of the new Triton Athlete to its owners.

“Although there was a decline in many economic sectors and the environmental sentiments starts to take a toll on people caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we are relieved to see our sales remain optimistic and constantly moving towards a positive direction. We are aware that a large number of our customers aim to purchase their cars before the SST exemption expires by end of June. Despite the challenges of supply constraints, Mitsubishi Motors is working our best to meet the expectation of our customers on the delivery preference,” Shinnishi added.

UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT), the sole importer, distributor and manufacturer of Toyota vehicles in Malaysia, has recorded a strong and positive month of sales. In April 2021, it posted new vehicle sales of 9,280 units for the Toyota and Lexus brands.

Toyota Corolla Cross_DriveThis positive sales trend can primarily be attributed to the growth in demand for the newly launched models, as well as the trend for consumers to take advantage of the savings from the exemption of the sales and service tax (SST) on new vehicle purchases.

Deputy Chairman, Akio Takeyama, attributed the growth in sales to the timely introduction of numerous new models that have been able to firmly establish new benchmarks in the various vehicle segments with their enhanced technological and safety features, styling and driving dynamics. Some of the new models launched recently by UMWT are the Corolla Cross and Harrier.

“The new generation of Toyota vehicles retains all the hallmarks of being reliable, robust, economical and practical but brings forward new levels of comfort, performance and driving enjoyment that resonates strongly with the evolving requirements of a new generation of consumers,” he said.

Toyota Fortuner SUV_Rear“The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in an extremely challenging year for both manufacturers and consumers, but measures put in place by the Government has successfully restored and strengthened consumer purchasing power,” added Takeyama. UMWT acknowledges with gratitude and appreciation the government’s support towards the development of the automotive industry in Malaysia, in light of the current situation. The current sales and service tax exemption period is expected to end on 30 June 2021. Any extension to this to continue spurring the automotive sector will depend on the government.

Additionally, President, Ravindran K., also underlined UMWT’s continued commitment for expansion and the enhancement of its sales and aftersales service network, as well as the introduction of more innovative and attractive offers to reward customers with a greatly enhanced ownership experience.

Related to this, UMWT had opened a new 2S (Sales and Service) Centre in Cheras (PDC Automobile), and 2 new 3S (Sales, Service and Spare Parts) Centres in April (i.e. Mutiara Motorsport in Johor Bahru and HLT Temerloh in Kemaman, Terengganu).

Toyota_Showroom_Service Centre_Dealership_Signage“Additionally, we have also been paying close attention to customers’ inclinations for online connections as indicated by strong digital preferences and gains that we have received through online enquiries and bookings. We will continue our assertive pursuit on digitally-led avenues and serve our customers better on all platforms, moving forward,” he added.

In conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive period, UMWT is offering a Countless Rewards promotion where you will continue to enjoy enormous SST savings on both locally-assembled and imported models until 30 June.

“Perodua expresses our gratitude to all our valued customers, whose feedback helped us tweak the Aruz to better satisfy the real needs and wants of the majority of Malaysians,” said Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

“With well over 60,000 sold since its 2019 birth, the Perodua Aruz was already the nation’s best-selling SUV in 2019 and 2020, but, true to the principles of Kaizen, we believe there are always ways we can make our products incrementally better. This incremental adaptation of the Aruz is in line with the Perodua Smart Build blueprint; another example of our symbiotic collaboration with our suppliers to customise our products to better suit Malaysian needs and wants, and through this, developing further the capabilities of our suppliers towards true self-reliance,” he added.

“Of all our models, the Perodua Aruz benefitted the most from the government’s sales tax exemption – its prices dropped by 6%, or over RM4,000. So if you’ve been eyeing an Aruz, book now – the exemption is slated to end in under 60 days,” said Dato’ Zainal.

Instead of the usual bouquet or dinner (which is not possible now in many areas), Bosch is proposing to give Mum a safe gift for Mother’s Day. Curated by Bosch Automotive Aftermarket Malaysia (Bosch AA), this is a series of practical and thoughtful gifts you can give to mum this year.

If you can’t always be there to drive mum around, why not give her a gift that helps to keep her safe when she is behind the wheel? The gift of car safety this Mother’s Day is done as part of Bosch AA’s ‘Drive for Life’ campaign. The campaign aims to advocate for safer cars and safer roads through raising awareness on the importance of using quality car parts and regular car maintenance.

Clear Visibility On The Road

Bosch Aerotwin WipersUpgrade the car wipers to a pair of flat blade wipers for clearer vision and better safety especially during this rainy season. Changing wipers are very simple and can be done in a few simple steps following online wiper installation videos. Bosch AA recommends the Bosch Aerotwin wipers for improved visibility.

Always take note of wear and tear signs include scraping sounds, water stripes and streaks, large unwiped sections, jumping and skipping. The heat from intense sunlight can cause wipers to warp and crack faster. As a rule of thumb, Bosch recommends to replace them once a year.

Clean And Fresh Aair In The Car

Having good air quality has gain prominence in the last couple of years. For cars, cabin filters serve as a first line of defense to reduce the risk of exposure to airborne pollutants, bacteria and viruses. Bosch AA recommends replacing the cabin filter in your mum’s car with the Bosch Aeristo Premium cabin filter, which has anti-virus, anti-bacterial, anti-allergen and anti-fungal properties.

It is advisable to replace cabin filters every year or every 15,000 km, whichever comes first. Common signs of a clogged cabin filter include unpleasant smells or exhaust fumes, increasing dust settling on car surfaces, frequent runny nose, sneezing and coughing. Reduced coldness of the AC and frequent foggy windows also warrant a cabin filter replacement.

Smooth-running Car

Using a quality engine oil will ensure the engine runs smoothly. Bosch AA recommends the Bosch Premium X7 5W40 Fully Synthetic Engine Oil. Since we are also driving less during this period, you can consider getting a Bosch C7 car battery charger to ensure her car battery is kept at optimum charge thus reducing the risk of a non-start.

Bosch C7 Battery ChargerTo care for the battery, keep the keep the car battery clean with an occasional wipe using a damp clean cloth. This can help prolong battery life, prevent battery terminal corrosion and keep the battery in optimal condition. You can also help check for signs of a swollen battery case once in a while to avoid bigger car problems, like an exploding battery.

For more information on simple car care tips you can DIY, log on to Bosch Autoparts Facebook (www.facebook.com/BoschAA.MY/).

You can also access a list of authorised Bosch dealers on the Facebook page to purchase certified original Bosch car parts or head on to Bosch Autoparts official store in Shopee (shopee.com.my/boschautoparts.os) and Lazada (www.lazada.com.my/shop/bosch-autoparts).

This program is initiated by Hino Malaysia as one of its corporate social responsibility activities to help the tourism and transportation sectors which are financially affected by the pandemic.

Hino_Malaysia_Corporate Social Responsibility_Persatuan Pengusaha Bas Persiaran Semanjung Malaysia PPBPM“As part of HINO CSR activity, we are pleased to involve and collaborate with PPBPM as our support for tourism and transportation sector recovery in Malaysia. With this initiative taken by Hino Malaysia, we believe, our collaboration with PPBSM will indirectly give better support to Malaysian bus operators,” said Atsushi Uchiyama, Managing Director of Hino Malaysia.

This program is offered to all PPBPM members that participated in the Cuti-Cuti Malaysia program, a partnership by PPBPM to support Tourism Malaysia. This is considered an ideal platform to reach the target group of 150 registered bus operators nationwide.

Hino_BusHino Malaysia will be offering discounts to tour bus operators and drivers for the vehicle’s maintenance. Furthermore, all tour bus operators and drivers will have the option to pay in installments for the maintenance service to help ease the burden.

Besides offering this special service program to bus operators, Hino Malaysia also contributed RM3,000 to the association as recovery financial support.

The members can also enjoy the extended 1-year warranty term for all HINO bus models under certain terms and condition.

“I would like to send my gratitude to Hino Malaysia for the contribution to help our main industry players who had facing tough time as part of your Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR),” said the Minister of Transport, YB Datuk Seri Ir. The Perodua Ativa was launched in early March 2021, and the company has registered a total of nearly 9,000 Ativa by the end of April. In the month of April alone, Perodua registered 4,624 units of Ativa, which is an estimated 22% of its total registered vehicles of 20,399 for the month.

Perodua_Dato Zainal Abidin Ahmad_President & CEO_MalaysiaPerodua reports that demand for the Ativa continues to be strong, averaging about 290 bookings daily. “We thank all Malaysians for their strong support,” said Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

However, month-to-month sales numbers have reduced by about 16.5% to 20,399 vehicles (from 24,431) mainly attributed to the global shortage of semiconductors affecting multiple industries.

Perodua Ativa AV

“The waiting period for the Ativa is currently between two and four months, depending on the desired colour and variant. We advise our valued customers to speak to our authorised sales advisors for accurate and up-to-date delivery times of the various variant-colour combinations of the Ativa,” said Dato’ Zainal.

“Despite the global semiconductor chip shortage, Perodua managed to produce 20,278 vehicles in April 2021, pushing our year-to-date production to 80,661 units,” he added. “The chip shortage is our top priority at present and we are deploying all our resources to deal with it, including working closely with the government and our business partners for viable solutions”.

Perodua_Sentral_Showroom_Service CentreTotal sales for Perodua in the first 4 months of 2021 adds up to 78,304 vehicles, which is a 74% jump when compared to the same period in 2020 (45,034 vehicles). But it is noted that the sales performance for the 2020 period was affected by the first Movement Control Order (MCO) which disrupted production and sales activities.

Despite the semiconductor supply hiccup, Perodua is still committed to making deliveries as timely as possible, especially to fulfill demand within the sales tax exemption period which ends in June. Perodua also targets production of 272,000 units (+23% from 2020’s 220,968 units) and 2.4 million service intakes (+20% from 2020’s 2 million service intakes) this year. With these projections, it is also expecting to lead to a record purchase of RM6.5 billion worth of locally-sourced components this year.

According to Dato’ Zainal, Perodua is maintaining its 2021 sales target at 240,000 units for now, which is 9% over the actual 2020 sales performance.
