Nissan Almera Turbo Prices Confirmed: RM79,906 – RM91,310

After its round of previews and roadshows, Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM) has officially announced the price of the all-new Nissan Almera Turbo. The prices for the three available variants are:

• VL variant: RM79,906
• VLP variant: RM85,715
• VLT variant: RM91,310

These prices are for on the road without insurance for private registration in Peninsular Malaysia. These are also the prices with the PENJANA sales tax exemption (valid until 31 December 2020).

For comparison, the prices in Langkawi (on-the-road price without insurance, and with sales tax exemption) are:

• VL variant: RM65,188
• VLP variant: RM72,688
• VLT variant: RM76,888

The Nissan Almera Turbo is covered by a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty, and comes with free 5 times alternating maintenance service (parts and labour included) within 5 years.

Further, ETCM is also offering a special hire purchase Flexi Financing Promotion:

• VL variant: RM 688 monthly
• VLP variant: RM 738 monthly
• VLT variant: RM 788 monthly

Based on OTR price without Insurance in Peninsular Malaysia, 90% loan amount, 9 years loan tenure. This special rate is valid until 31 December 2020.

Additionally, those who purchase their insurance with Tan Chong Insurance Business Stream (TCIBS) will get free Personal Accident (PA) coverage up to RM75,000*, Key Care cover reimbursement up to RM 1,500* and  Flood Relief allowance up to RM 1,500*.

Also available are Optional Accessories Packages which are covered by a 3-year warranty.

To recap, all variants of the Nissan Almera Turbo use the all-new HR10DET 1.0L turbo engine paired with a next generation X-TRONIC CVT with D-Step Logic and Sport mode. Maximum power output is 100 PS and 152 Nm of torque @ 2,400 – 4,000 rpm, with a relatively flat torque curve. Its fuel efficiency is claimed at 18.4 km/L** (or 5.4L/100km).

All variants also come with Nissan Intelligent Mobility advance driver assistance systems such as the Intelligent Forward Collision Warning (IFCW) with Intelligent Forward Emergency Braking (IFEB).

Driving Impressions

During a brief driving stint in the Almera Turbo, the 3-cylinder turbo engine performed admirably especially getting off the traffic lights. Some lag is expected from a turbo engine and the way the CVT works needs some getting used to, but I don’t foresee these to be deal breakers in the long run because these are factors owners will adapt to. I did not get a chance to take it on a prolonged highway cruise so there is not much to comment on how the engine performs. But for urban driving, there is hardly any issue in terms of power delivery.

While waiting at the lights, only a slight vibration was felt in the cabin. When taken up to the highway speed limit, cabin noise suppression was also quite effective. It is of course not on par with premium brands or models, but among its natural rivals, it is one of the better ones.

According to ETCM, particular attention was paid to improve NVH with additional insulation especially in the cabin. This makes the Malaysian version of the Almera better than the Thailand version. Our version also has more premium features than our northern neighbour’s. Comparing the top variants of each, we get LED daytime running lights, larger 16″ wheels, combination leather seats, and cruise control.

Furthermore, ALL variants of the Malaysian Almera come standard with 60:40 split folding rear seats, a feature its rivals don’t offer as standard. Coming standard also are Forward Collision Warning and Emergency Braking.
