HINO 500_5 Year WarrantyHino Motors Sales (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (HMSM) has introduced a new and enhanced warranty programme for the HINO 500 Series truck. The new 5-year or 500,000 km mileage warranty which was implemented on 1 March 2021, covers both chassis and powertrain for its 500 Series medium heavy-duty (MHCV) / prime mover truck. HINO Connect is a set of services that connects the vehicle with the customer’s office through a telematics system to provide vehicle data and fleet position. Review of driving performance can also be done allowing operators / customers to make informed decisions and take the necessary actions to improve fleet productivity.

Hino 500_Hino Total Support Customer Center_Sendayan_TrainingThis telematics system allows fleet owners to save money by reducing fuel consumption, identifying vehicles that are driven improperly (driver behaviour data), and planning service and maintenance schedules (service reminder feature) in order to reduce unexpected downtime. When complemented with Hino Driver Training at Hino Total Support Customer Center (HTSCC), fleet owners can see a savings of up to 10% in fuel costs.

HINO Connect is also designed to improve the safety and security of the truck, with a 24-hour call centre assistance as well as a theft monitoring system.

Free Service Programme (FSP)

Additionally, the newly enhanced warranty programme comes with 3x Free Service Programme (FSP) that includes labour, parts, and lubricants. Some of the NGO’s programmes include distribution of lunch boxes and rice bags to orphanages and welfare homes, as well as ‘Meals on Wheels’ where food is distributed to old folks who have been abandoned or are living alone. INSAF also builds shelter homes for those who have been hit by natural disasters and are in dire need for a roof over their heads.

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia_Tomoyuki Shinnishi_CEO“Our CSR vision for this year is ‘Inspiring Lives Today for a Greater Future’. While our missions are to implement CSR activities that provides aid to support underprivileged children, and to collaborate with NGOs in promoting a sustainable economy, society and environment. Hunger is on the rise in Malaysia as we’ve seen lot of breadwinners lose their source of income which leads to the inability to put food on the table. We are doing all that we can to make sure children or families don’t go to bed hungry hence we are so glad to have companies like Mitsubishi Motors reach out to us to offer help. The contribution of the Triton pick-up truck is timely, practical and very much appreciated.”

The Volvo Batik Reusable Facemasks collection is a collaboration between Volvo Car Malaysia, Three Little Ahmads and NanoTextile. This collection of anti-microbial facemasks aims to provide a more sustainable alternative to disposable facemasks as well as to support the livelihoods of the local community. This project employs the workmanship of locals that are facing unemployment and adversities due to the pandemic.

Volvo_Three Little Ahmads_NanoTextile_Face MaskThe masks are designed by Three Little Ahmads, a Malaysian-founded children’s clothing brand and social enterprise. The facemasks are ethically sourced, made and produced by single mothers, women in rural neighbourhoods and GIATMara vocational alumnus, whose jobs were displaced due to retail factory closures during the Malaysian Movement Control Order in March 2020. Some of the affected have had to pawn off the jewellery they had received as dowry to make ends meet.

For each mask produced, an individual from this target community group is fairly compensated. To-date, the income from the production of these facemasks have not only provided these women with a stable source of income but also earned them enough to buy back their jewellery from the pawnshop.

“This collaboration truly falls in line with Volvo’s core philosophy of ‘Omtanke’, which is a Swedish word and Volvo’s brand ethos that means ‘to care’ and ‘to be considerate’. We are honoured to lend a helping hand to our local communities and sustain their livelihoods, especially during these economically challenging and vulnerable times,” said Akhtar Sulaiman, Marketing and PR Director of Volvo Car Malaysia.

Volvo Car Malaysia_Three Little Ahmads_NanoTextile_Reusable Face Mask_CSROmtanke’ also defines Volvo’s approach to sustainability, where its care for others extends to the planet as well. As a global automotive company with one of the most ambitious climate goals in the industry, Volvo Cars is committed to protecting and improving the environment and wider society. One of the significant environmental concerns resulting from the pandemic is the disposal of single-use surgical masks, which could end up in the landfills or the oceans as nano-plastics.

Recognising disposable masks as a fast-growing environmental concern, a three-way partnership was formed to produce attractive and reusable fabric facemasks. The locally designed masks bear unique Batik Tekap motifs as a tribute to Malaysia’s art heritage.

Volvo Car Malaysia_NanoTextile_Batik Face Mask_Three Little Ahmads“When we received the brief from Volvo Car Malaysia, we took a more contemporary spin by creating one-of-a-kind Batik stamps based on three flowers: sunflower, stargazer lily and jasmine – flowers that are not normally seen in traditional batik. With the help of nanotechnology and innovation, the facemasks are both safe and fashionable for public use. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with Volvo Car Malaysia and NanoTextile that mobilises the talent of our local communities and enables them a source of income; at the same time, showcase a line of uniquely designed facemasks that are made for Malaysians to protect themselves,” said Datin Azrene Ahmad, Founder and Fashion Designer at Three Litte Ahmads.

Each of the facemasks is made with the wearer’s health in mind. Thoughtfully designed and assembled by hand, each mask is 100% cotton, anti-bacterial, water-repellent and provides bacterial and viral protection for up to 100 gentle washes.

NanoTextile_Reusable Face Mask_Volvo Car MalaysiaNanoTextile, the company behind the facemask’s anti-bacterial qualities, is a progressive textile company in Malaysia that offers leading technology solutions in textile production. Taking into account cost, production wastage, product lifespan and potential health risks, NanoTextile employs nanotechnology to reduce the penetration of contaminated droplets and prevent possible infection of the fabric by viruses or bacteria. The addition of a PM 2.5 filter provides a fifth layer of protection and is tested to effectively filter out 90% of fine particles.

Dr Thomas Ong, Chief Executive Offer of NanoTextile, said: “Nanotechnology opens the door to a whole new way of processing materials in the textile industry. We’re looking at better quality fabrics made from a greater variety of materials, including nano-plastics. Through this partnership, we hope to showcase the potential of nanotechnology as one of the solutions to environmental pollution, and also that in producing better quality materials, people will be able to treat them as premium curated items that can last them many uses and for a long time.”

“Climate change is a big problem to address alone, but together with like-minded organisations, brands and people, we can make an impactful difference to our community and the planet. We hope that through this partnership, we can inspire Malaysians to make more sustainable choices for the sake of our planet,” Akhtar added.

The Volvo Batik Reusable Facemasks comes in a set of three, with two available size options i.e. medium and large. Each set comes in three colour variations i.e. Dark Blue (sunflower), Navy Blue (stargazer lily), and Sky Blue (jasmine). These sets have a retail price of RM99 per set, and are available at any Volvo dealership nationwide.

Walter Röhrl_Porsche Brand AmbassadorWalter Röhrl has been testing a new more powerful Porsche Cayenne model at the Hockenheimring in Germany. Röhrl, who is a two-time World Rally Champion and a Porsche Brand Ambassador, had put a lightly camouflaged Cayenne prototype through its paces in a tough test of its capabilities on the Grand Prix circuit. He described the new Cayenne as a “great leap forward compared to everything that has gone before. This car redefines the meaning of the term SUV”.

Porsche Cayenne GTSThe Porsche Cayenne made its debut in 2002, offering sports car-like performance in a usable and practical package. The model line-up evolved to feature more powerful models such as the Cayenne Turbo S in 2006, with 521 PS, and the sporty Cayenne GTS in 2007. “They were off-road vehicles that could be driven like sports cars – a real sensation at the time,” says Röhrl, when looking back at the first Cayenne generation, which had the internal designation ‘E1′.

With the new model, which is currently undergoing final testing and optimisation as part of development to series production maturity, Porsche aims to underline its claim to best-in-class performance once again. The focus for this derivative has been on exceptional on-road performance without neglecting driving comfort and everyday usability. It is based on the current Cayenne Turbo Coupé, but has been designed and fine-tuned even more to provide the ultimate in terms of longitudinal and lateral dynamics.

Along with a host of other enhancements for all chassis and control systems, the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control active roll stabilisation system makes a major contribution to the stable handling of the new Cayenne model with a new, performance-oriented set-up.

L-R: Röhrl with Lars Kern
L-R: Röhrl with Lars Kern

“The PDCC always keeps the body balanced and level even during very spirited cornering,” explains Porsche test driver Lars Kern, who has accompanied development of the high-performance model from the start. Its handling is also improved by its comprehensively revamped front axle: “Compared with the Cayenne Turbo Coupé, the front rims are now half an inch wider, and negative camber has been increased by 0.45 degrees in order to provide a larger contact area for the 22″ sports tyres newly developed especially for this model,” said Kern, who recently invited Walter to Hockenheim for the test drives.

The visual highlights of the new Cayenne are still largely hidden under black camouflage but Röhrl had already gained an in-depth impression of the outstanding driving dynamics potential of the new Cayenne model. Accompanied by the emotive sound of the new titanium exhaust system, which is equipped with centrally positioned tailpipes, the brand ambassador was very impressed after his Hockenheim laps: “The car remains incredibly stable even in fast corners, and its turn-in behaviour is extremely precise. More than ever, you have the feeling that you are sitting in a compact sports car rather than in a large SUV.”

Luxury watchmaker, IWC Schaffhausen, and premium carmaker, Mercedes-AMG, have launched the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “AMG”. This timepiece is the latest product to celebrate the partnership between these two upmarket brands; they have been collaborating since 2004. The long-standing collaboration between the Swiss luxury watchmaker and the performance and sports car brand Mercedes-AMG, is grounded in many common values, including the pursuit of technical perfection and uncompromising quality. Both companies were created by visionaries with bold ideas.

IWC was established in 1868 by American watchmaker and entrepreneur Florentine Ariosto Jones in Switzerland. It is renowned for creating functional complications, especially chronographs and calendars, which are ingenious, robust, and easy to use. The ‘International Watch Company’ is a pioneer in the use of titanium and ceramics, and specialises in highly engineered technical watch cases manufactured from advanced materials, such as titanium aluminide and Ceratanium®. Meanwhile, in 1967 in Grossaspach, Germany, Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher established AMG with a visionary concept of incorporating cutting-edge racing technology into road-going series vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz_AMG_IWC Schaffhausen_Chronograph“The partnership between Mercedes-AMG and IWC has all the components that are needed for a successful and long-lasting collaboration. It’s very rare to come across a company and people with so many common interests and values. Our commitment to craftsmanship of the highest level and our pursuit of emotional product experiences is what has united us since 2004 – and the Pilot‘s Watch Chronograph Edition “AMG” once again underlines our strong partnership,” said Philipp Schiemer, CEO of Mercedes-AMG.

“IWC Schaffhausen and Mercedes-AMG share both a passion for performance and design, as well as a commitment to engineering excellence down to the smallest detail. Over the last 17 years of our partnership, IWC and AMG have shared exhilarating moments in motorsport and beyond and we have created many lasting memories for our clients. Today we are proud to introduce Mercedes-AMG as a permanent feature of our Pilot‘s Watch Collection, starting with the Pilot‘s Watch Chronograph Edition “AMG”, explains Christoph Grainger-Herr, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen.

IWC Schaffhausen_Mercedes-AMG_Pilot's Watch ChronographCrafted from automotive engineering materials, the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “AMG” (Ref. IW377903) is IWC‘s first 43 mm Pilot‘s Watch Chronograph featuring the IWC-manufactured 69385 calibre, as well as the first Pilot‘s Watch Chronograph with a case made of extremely light and scratch-resistant titanium. The Grade 5 titanium finish gives the watch its matte grey appearance, inspired by AMG‘s signature Selenite Grey Magno paint finish. The dial features precisely woven carbon fibre, a material directly derived from AMG‘s aero components. These parts are produced in a complex process involving heat and pressure and are known for their remarkable lightness and rigidity. The raw material is continuous carbon fibres, which are processed on weaving machines into textile structures, giving the end product its characteristic woven “carbon look”. The black carbon dial provides the perfect contrast to the silver chronograph sub-dials, reminiscent of motorsport instruments.

IWC_Mercedes-AMG_Pilot's Watch Chronograph_Sapphire Crystal Case BackThis performance watch is powered by the IWC-manufactured calibre 69385 which is a robust and precise chronograph movement that enables stop time measurements of up to 12 hours. The chronograph function is controlled by a column wheel, an intricate component with two functional levels. The watch has a Mercedes-AMG logo emblazoned on the tinted sapphire crystal case back and is fitted with a black embossed calf leather strap with contrast stitching and folding clasp.

The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “AMG” is available for pre-order at IWC.com, through IWC boutiques and authorised retail partners. The timepiece is eligible for registration under the My IWC care program and thus benefits from a 6-year extension to the standard 2-year International Limited Warranty.

Further, IWC sources materials responsibly and takes action to minimise its impact on the environment, creating intrinsically sustainable timepieces that are built to last for generations. Here is some feel-good news to start the weekend. It is also in conjunction with World Bee Day which fell on 20 May. Luxury marque, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, not only produces opulent motor cars, they also produce magnificent honey. Last week, Rolls-Royce appointed its first-ever Junior Beekeper at its Goodwood Apiary. The decision to appoint eight-year-old Poppy Liddle from Selsey, West Sussex to this important role comes after a story in the Chichester Observer highlighted the theft of Poppy’s beloved beehive in early May.

Moved by her plight, and impressed by her pragmatic response to the outrage, Rolls-Royce arranged for her to visit the Goodwood Apiary, home to possibly the world’s best-known (and certainly most palatial) colony of English honey bees.

She was then introduced to beekeeper Jason Hampton, and some of Goodwood Apiary’s 300,000 hardworking inhabitants. Poppy was also presented with a special certificate confirming her as the marque’s first-ever Junior Beekeeper, signed by Richard Carter, who combines serving as Chief Beekeeper and Director of Global Communications for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

“We were moved to invite Poppy to visit the Goodwood Apiary after reading in the local paper about the theft of her beehive. She is the first person ever to be made Junior Beekeeper at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars: we’ve all been incredibly impressed by her knowledge and love of bees, and we feel very lucky to have her on our team. We look forward to welcoming Poppy back to help us harvest the ‘Rolls-Royce of Honey’ later in the season,” commented Richard Carter.

Rolls-Royce_HoneyTo celebrate this occasion, Poppy was given a jar of ‘Rolls-Royce of Honey’ made by the Rolls-Royce bees. This honey is usually reserved exclusively for clients and other VIPs. She will be returning to the Home of Rolls-Royce later in the season when this year’s honey harvest is collected.

But in her first week of Junior Beekeper, she has already been given an extremely important and responsible task. Earlier this year, Rolls-Royce invited colleagues to act as volunteer beekeepers for the new season. As expected, the response was immediate and enthusiastic. By the closing date, over 50 people from across the company had applied for the five available vacancies. Poppy drew 10 names from a hat to create a shortlist, who will then be interviewed. The successful candidates will go on to receive apicultural training funded by Rolls-Royce.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars_Apiary_Beehive_DawnPoppy is also part of what has just become a worldwide team, with the launch of a second Rolls-Royce Apiary in Dubai to mark World Bee Day. The worldwide event, first held in 2017, is a United Nations initiative designed to raise awareness of the global importance of bees and beekeeping in world food production, biodiversity, environmental conservation and climate change.

Like the original at the Home of Rolls-Royce, the Dubai Apiary comprises six hives named ‘Phantom’, ‘Ghost’, ‘Wraith’, ‘Dawn’, ‘Cullinan’ and ‘Spirit of Ecstasy’. Each hive, specially designed to withstand Dubai’s climate, is home to a population of around 60,000 bees, benevolently ruled by an ‘Emirati Queen’ bee generously provided by the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority.

Rolls-Royce Apiary_BeesRichard Carter said, “As enthusiastic beekeepers ourselves, we completely understand how much Poppy’s recent loss meant to her. We can’t bring back the hive that was taken, but we hope this event, and her new role, will help Poppy feel better and give her new opportunities to enjoy being with bees.”

“World Bee Day is an important event in our calendar. It represents all the values and vital issues that led us to first establish the Rolls-Royce Apiary and now our first international operation in Dubai. We are delighted to support it as part of the worldwide beekeeping community,” he added.
