Yup, the hole in the 850 is on the passenger side but do take care when
you seal it up & travelling long distances as no fresh air may be
circulated in the passenger cabin. Wind down the windows once in a while
to allow fresh air to come into the passenger cabin. Otherwise, can be
dangerous as the stale air can make you drowsy due to CO2 build up. Take
care!

you are right..cap48, no fresh air pulak nanti kan?
i'm always driving & went for outstation at night. sometime from kuantan
direct to ipoh tooks almost 7 hours.
regularly, after single hour i 'tolak' aircond switch to the center to
allowed fresh air to come in for a few minutes. then, kalau tutup no fresh
air leerr...
if i wind down the windows once in a while, jawabnya insect le masuk malam-
malam...
by the way, let it be originallah. stick to the default setup. even Gustaf
Larson dah thinking of it 80 years ago kat sweden...
keep the distance; i think is the best way...see the lorry ,dok jauh-jauh
takpon tukar lane cepat2...
settle...

hi,

My 740GLE has recently developed a stuttering problem when I start it
from cold. It'll continue stuttering at low revs in second and third gear
before it becomes normal at around 2.2k rpm.

It almost died while I was in the middle of taking a corner with fast
traffic coming perpendicularly on my left. I had to rev really hard and
when the stuttering dissapeared, I smoked my rear tyres and off i went!

I don't think it's a timing issue as the rpm seems ok when it's idle.
Perhaps this is related to the above problem, but lately, when I start
the car, I have to turn the key once (nothing happens, just little click
sound), turn it off and turn it again (here the engine starts). It rained
today, so it could be related with temperature too.

I'm sending it in for routine servicing this weekend. What should I look
out for? Appreciate all your comments. Thanks.

BlueBrick,

seems like yr fuel injection throttle body had a problem. i think, check
it out this thing with yr mechanic first. eventhough the rpm seems ok when
it's idle, for the interim solution, my advice is spray injector/carb
cleaner inside the injection's throttle body & start yr engine. after
that, revs it gradually until as high as 5k-6k rpm.

check & look out yr battery & stater as well...

have a nice day & drive safely..

Volvoman,

Thanks for the pointers. I got my car back. Still waiting for the right
conditions to see if the problem still exists. Changed the front (twin)
exhaust pipe that was bocor. RM 280 for the job. Could this be the cause
of the stuttering problem? Hope this will also improve FC.

Niao Niao,

I tried fixing the meter at Volvo specialist. Apparently mine isn't
repairable anymore. So I'm going to let it be.

Hello Cybernout, long time I didn't hear from you, how's you 740 Turbo
runing now ?? I think the DOCH engine only apply to 940 version. Mine 740
is a GLE model, and is an 8V engine with Bosch K-Jet machanical fuel
injection.

Are you a DIY fellow ?? do you know how to take out the whole
speedometer ?? there is one used speedometer taken off a 740 turbo, I had
bought the batt volt meter so is now left with Turbo boost meter, fuel,
coolant temp, RPM and the speedmeter. I have yet to test the speedmeter
but if you need it I will ask the shop to sell it to you. Need further
guidance, you can call me at 017-8867783

hi cybernout

yes, u r right. actually GLE in europe using B234 which is DOHC, but not
in malaysia.
B234 16v twincam is problematic especially the oil & gasket usually
leaks.
in malaysia, we are using B230 engine for most 740 and 940 model.
B230E mechanical f.i, B230F electronic f.i.

GLE is only the model with a beautiful chrome trim.

My car has the same odometer problem since 124 000km. just let it be..
