Sound too high for a 88 model. I think it's market value is about RM18k or
lower. Is it from a dealer or the owner ? if from a dealer most probabily
they had done up the car so to sell it higher (you may not know what they
done!!) . Be patient while looking for car !! it took me about six month
before I got mine current 90 740GLE.

very true SA6, I got my previous 1989 740 from a dealer, which they have
done up the car but guess what, they even use a welded crankshaft (use to
crack) pulley on my car..used distributor which konk few months later etc..
ever since the car cost me headache until I sold it off last year for
current 940..

Thanks pals. The problem is that I am in Sarawak. Unlike your side,
there are not too many volvos to choose from in this part of the country
and those that I have seen were in terrible condition. Those decent ones
are mostly owned by businessmen who usually ask for quite high prices
(since they can afford the fuel and the repairs).

The one that I mentioned is owned by an individual who was previously with
Fed Auto. He is now on his own (though partner with some individuals whom
I know well) and the car is in real good condition. The interior is like
brand new car and not a rust on its body. I have also inspected the under
carriage - not a trace of oil stain!

Anyway, I have confirmed the deal and so welcome me.

Yeah...apparently in East Malaysia, the prices of cars are a bit more
expensive. Anyway, since the condition of the car is good, then it should
be ok.

Anyway, WELCOME niaoniao...Big SmileThumbUp
You won't regret owning a VOLVO....

disount lar..since he is ex FA guy, he should able to tell you what he had
done to the car. Good Luck. Like Dalpy said, as long as the car condition
is good, it should be ok.

By the way may be I should tell you that my current 740 was from KK, the
bank had to auction it off when the previous owner fail to settle the
balance. To add the excitment to my purchase, just a coincidence that my
current car plate SA6086K start with my choosen nick SA6. I guess this car
was already meant for me Big Smile

Thanks guys

SA6, I have read most of the articles in this forum and I know you have
been very helpful to the various volvo owners. You do not mind to supply
your email address? I saw it some where but forgot which article.

Also you dont mind sharing your experience on the 740?

niaoniao, thanks for the compliment..a bit shy lar...Blush anyway I would
please to help is anyway I can. You can always post you question here or
to me at michael@misteel.com.my

I started to fall in love with Volvo after I read about her history. My
original intention was to get a 240 but I end up with a 740 through Affin
bank auction. After the purchase i was left with limited cash so I have to
be careful with what I am going to do with my car. My car was towed back
to my home garage, spent every weekday night & full use of the weekend
doing up the car. I have changed most of the stuff ever since I got it,
the last major one I had was the radiator burst due to relay failure. The
most current work I done was changed from Manual to auto, and change the
aircon compressor.

My conclusion about Volvo 740 is, they are relaiable, strong, comfortable
and pretty straight forward engine machanism. The low side of it was the
pickup and sluggish power. That is the nature of heavy NA/Naturally
Aspirated car, but there is always an option to get more POWER like mod
and conversion into TURBO, well that is the later stage off course .....
