Continental Tyre Malaysia has launched its flagship Ultra Ultra High Performance (UUHP) SportContact 7 tyre. The SportContact 7 is the latest of the Generation 7 products introduced in Malaysia, and is developed to redefine performance criteria standards and provide unparalleled driving confidence on the road and the track.

The Continental SportContact 7 tyre features the latest technologies such as upgraded adaptive pattern that reacts to different driving behaviour by providing additional grip on the asphalt. Additionally, the latest development also includes Force Clustering that provides the same SportContact handling and tailor-made performance for every vehicle class, as well as the exclusive BlackChili technology that has been further  harmonised with the tyre pattern concept to ensure a higher level of driving pleasure.

“For the past several years, we have been listening to customers feedback and observing various performance driving patterns of road users across the globe, including Malaysia. To meet the evolving driving patterns and customer needs, we have exclusively developed the Sport Contact 7 with stickier compounds that ensure a better grip for an enthusiastic driving experience with zero compromise on safety and comfort on the road,” said Andrea Somorova, Managing Director of Continental Tyre Malaysia.

Continental SportContact 7_TyreWith the latest adaptive pattern technology for straight roads, the SportContact 7 tyre is able to provide outstanding grip in wet conditions particularly under braking or acceleration, and avoid micro aquaplaning during cornering. The adaptive pattern of the SportContact 7 is also able to provide stable handling characteristics in the outer shoulder, allowing only limited movement of the pattern.

As heavy vehicles in the UUHP environment need different performance requirements than lighter vehicles, the SportContact 7 is the first Continental tyre that is tailor-made for every vehicle class and weight. The ultimate goal of this tyre is to provide the sportive feel and performance, and driving pleasure, regardless of the car.

The latest generation of resins combined with Continental’s revolutionary and exclusive BlackChili compound, has been refined with new plasticizer to create an ultra-sticky compound, which is used together with a groundbreaking low void profile design to create an significant leap in tyre performance.

With its latest technology and ability to cater to every vehicle’s needs, SportContact 7 has received numerous awards and accolades from 3rd party tyre review experts in Europe, including but not limited to Evo, AutoBild, Sport Auto, AutoExpress, WhatTyre, and Tyre Reviews.

The Continental SportContact 7 is available at all Continental Tyre dealerships nationwide. It comes in tyre sizes ranging from 18’’ to 23’’.

Tan Chong Industrial Equipment (TCIE) and UD Trucks have launched the Euro 5 range of UD Quester and UD Croner trucks. This engine upgrade boasts features that will improve uptime, efficiency, and optimise Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for truck owners, while reducing the vehicle’s environmental impact to comply with ESG (environmental, social and governance) policies.

L-R: Steve Hedouin, Managing Director Hub Malaysia, UD Trucks; Jacques Michel, Senior Vice President International Sales, UD Trucks; Daniel Ho, Chief Executive Officer, Tan Chong Group Bhd; Tan Keng Meng, Executive Director, TCIE; Say Teck Ming, Chief Operating Officer, TCIE.
L-R: Steve Hedouin, Managing Director Hub Malaysia, UD Trucks; Jacques Michel, Senior Vice President International Sales, UD Trucks; Daniel Ho, Chief Executive Officer, Tan Chong Group Bhd; Tan Keng Meng, Executive Director, TCIE; Say Teck Ming, Chief Operating Officer, TCIE.

The new Euro 5 Quester (heavy duty) and Croner (medium duty) represent UD Trucks’ first models designed specifically for markets outside of Japan in line with the brand’s Better Life approach to sustainability practices. This Euro 5 range has been introduced in fast-growing and emerging regions around the world, due to the general adoption of more stringent international emission standards by various countries to reduce pollution and improve air quality.

UD Trucks’ Better Life drives the integration of sustainability across all of the company’s operations and processes to realise lower environmental impact, higher customer satisfaction and profitability, as well as a better place for people to work and live.

“The introduction of our new Euro 5 Quester and Croner is a significant evolution driven by UD Trucks’ corporate purpose of creating Better Life through more efficient and cleaner emission trucks that the world needs today, for a sustainable future.” said Steve Hedouin, Managing Director of Hub Malaysia, UD Trucks.

UD Trucks_Hub Malaysia_Managing Director_Steve Hedouin“With air pollution being one of the biggest health threats and the transport sector facing increasing environmental pressure and business challenges, this is an era where sustainable logistics has become even more critical than ever before. As industry players, we need to embrace and make positive changes to reduce emissions and future-proof our business operations. The new Euro 5 Quester and Croner give customers the leverage they can depend on for furthering their business productivity, all while minimizing their environmental impact and helping them stay competitive,” he added.

The new Euro 5 range features UD’s Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology to significantly boost environmental protection and fuel economy. With SCR, exhaust emissions are mainly water and nitrogen. This system is able to reduce nitrogen oxides by 60% and particulate matter emissions by 80% compared to current Euro 3 levels. Compared with Euro 4 levels, nitrogen oxides are 43% less. Additionally, Euro 5 engines benefit from lower fuel consumption and CO² emissions than an equivalent Euro 3 truck.

UD Trucks is the first truck manufacturer to introduce the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology in 2004, and this technology has proven to be more reliable compared to other emission control technologies for reducing emission of nitrogen oxides. SCR technology also improves fuel efficiency and total cost of ownership as there are lower maintenance requirements compared to other available emission control technologies. Furthermore, there is also higher power and torque due to optimised combustion without increasing the size of the engine.

Business uptime is also enhanced with improved service intervals and less time required for maintenance. This is further supported by the availability of AdBlue at TCIE’s network of 26 branches and dealers across Malaysia. TCIE is the sole distributor partner of UD Trucks in Malaysia. AdBlue is a safe-to-use diesel exhaust fluid used in vehicles with SCR technology to reduce harmful gases from being released into the atmosphere. With a cleaner and more robust engine configuration and lower sensitivity to sulfur content in fuel, SCR technology contributes to longer engine life while reducing environmental pollution.

Aside from this, the new Quester and Croner also get a new instrument cluster with real-time fuel coaching. This feature provides drivers with immediate and specific feedback on their driving to help them improve their technique in real time and become more fuel efficient. This is ultimately beneficial to the truck owner and driver as every litre of fuel saved is more Ringgit earned. UD Quester_Euro 5_Instrument Cluster_Driver Coaching_Fuel Efficiency

Say Teck Ming, Chief Operating Officer of TCIE shared, “The offering of the new Euro 5 range reflects TCIE’s and UD Trucks’ shared commitment in supporting Malaysia’s environmental, social and governance agenda and in meeting the needs of modern transport operators in a changing world environment. Leveraging on TCIE’s strengths, the new Euro 5 Quester and Croner trucks will be produced as CKD under our manufacturing facility. With TCIE’s wide dealership and service network nationwide, we are excited and ready to help our customers transition their fleet to the cleaner emission and more efficient Euro 5 Quester and Croner.”

“The new Euro 5 range offers all of the additional advantages to help our customers go the extra mile efficiently and responsibly whilst retaining all other existing benefits that Quester and Croner have been delivering,” he added.

The UD Quester combines excellent fuel efficiency with durability and connectivity with the innovative UD Telematics functions, as well as good fuel efficiency and safety with numerous features including the ESCOT automated manual transmission.

The Croner meanwhile offers reliability and versatility through a wide and customisable model range, suitable for specific applications, fuel efficiency with its aerodynamic cab design to reduce drag, driveability with the Allison automatic transmission, and superior ergonomics, cab space and comfort for the driver.

For a limited time, early bird buyers of the Quester prime mover can enjoy 3 years (or 300,000 km, whichever comes first) free UD Trust standard contract, while buyers of Quester rigid trucks will receive service vouchers worth RM8,888. Buyers of the Croner meanwhile, will receive service vouchers worth RM6,888. This offer is valid until 31 December 2023.

Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd has made available a new 18-litre pail size for its best-selling Shell Rimula R4X heavy duty diesel engine oil. With this new size variant, Shell Rimula R4X 15W-40 (recommended retail price: RM343) is now available in 5 different sizes to meet the different needs of customers. The other sizes are the 209-litre drum, 20-litre pail, 5-litre pail, and 1-litre pack.

Nyon Kam Yew with a happy Rimula customer.
Nyon Kam Yew with a happy Rimula customer.

Shell Rimula R4X is formulated with Shell’s innovative Dynamic Protection technology and is a favourite among driver-owners of small and medium sized trucks as well as heavy equipment operators because of its triple protection characteristic. The benefits of using Rimula R4X are:

  1. Acid and corrosion control: Proven to provide up to 50% more better acid corrosion protection in engine and laboratory tests, also field trials under real-world truck driving conditions, which protects against corrosion by controlling the acids formed as the fuel burns.
  2. Wear control: Maintains strong protective oil films to keep critical engine components working, as proven in the Mack T-10 engine test, whereby Shell Rimula R4X demonstrated up to 30% better wear protection of engine piston rings and cylinder liners than required to meet the API CI-4 specification.
  3. Deposit control: Up to 50% better engine cleanliness, resists high-temperature oxidation, keeping engines clean from deposits, resulting in less engine sludge in different parts of the engine as demonstrated in key engine tests for meeting US and European specifications.

According to Shell Lubricants General Manager for Malaysia and Singapore Nyon Kam Yew, the introduction of the 18-litre pail would help reduce wastage as well as make the popular Shell Rimula R4X even more affordable. “This new smaller pail was very well received in Malaysia and when Shell introduced it in Vietnam and Thailand. We believe customers in Malaysia will also appreciate the convenience of the new size. You can just pick it up and go from any authorised spare part shop or independent workshop,” he said.

Despite the availability of more efficient and lower emission synthetic lubricants, mineral oils such as Shell Rimula R4X currently make up about 89% of the heavy-duty engine oil market in Malaysia[1]. Shell Malaysia aims to step up efforts to heighten awareness of the benefits of using synthetic oils among its customers.

Shell_Rimula R4X_15w-40_5 Litres“We continually work to address various misconceptions such as doubts on the ability of ‘thinner’ synthetic oils to offer critical engine protection and ‘higher’ price points among others.  Numerous trials with customers in the transport and logistics sectors have proven that Shell Rimula’s synthetic range can offer superior wear protection, remain in grade for far longer and, therefore, help extend oil drain intervals for lower total costs of ownership,” Nyon added.

Nyon also said that its entry-level synthetic technology heavy duty engine oil, Shell Rimula R4 Plus, would be a cost-effective next step up for fleet owners who plan to lower carbon emissions of their vehicles.
