Honda Malaysia will soon launch the Honda BR-V facelift, some time within the first quarter of 2020 (that would be by this month) and in the meantime is accepting bookings for this 7-seater crossover.

The Bold Runabout Vehicle was first introduced to Malaysia in 2017. It combined an SUV design with impressive versatility, making it an all-rounder which turned it into one of the most sought-after vehicles in the market, particularly among buyers with family.

“The BR-V was developed exclusively by Honda R&D Asia Pacific Co., Ltd. (HRAP) for the ASEAN market. It is also the first HRAP model in Malaysia. The BR-V is set to cater to the increasing market demand for a 7-seater car that is spacious and versatile at the same time. Since its launch in 2017, over 36,000 units of BR-V were sold in the country as at January 2020. This encouraging result was translated into 45% (non-national segment) market share in 2019, which helped the BR-V maintain its position as the segment leader.” said Honda Malaysia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Toichi Ishiyama.

“To continue offering high-quality products and meeting customer expectation, Honda Malaysia conducted market study and collected customer feedback that can help us understand our customers better. Armed with significant insight of the market, the New BR-V received exciting enhancements that are able to further captivate the hearts of Malaysians,” Mr. Ishiyama added.

The exterior of the New BR-V gets an upgrade with a fresher and stylish appearance. The front design of New BR-V has an improved Front Bumper and New Front Grille, New Lower Bumper Garnish and New Front Fog Light Garnish. At the back, there is a New Rear Lower Bumper Garnish, New Shark Fin Antenna; and a New 16″ Alloy Wheel Design.

Push Start Button_Engine Start StopAdditionally, the Keyless Entry and Push Start Button features are now standard features for all variants, offering customers improved convenience.

The New BR-V maintains the familiar 1.5L SOHC i-VTEC engine that produces 120 PS and 145 Nm of torque, the highest output in its segment. This gives the BR-V the ability to deliver better driveability for a 7-seater
crossover.

Honda Malaysia believes the New BR-V is the ideal option for customers with families as it is designed to give more space that can fit the passengers as well as various sizes of goods. The third row seats are adjustable with 50:50 Tilt & Full Tumble that can lie flat and fully tumbled to maximise boot space. Further, the New BR-V also has New Leather Seat with added Red Accent.

There is no official price yet but it is open for booking at all 100 Honda dealerships nationwide.

For more information on the New BR-V or to place a booking, please call the Honda Toll Free number 1-800-88-2020, or visit www.honda.com.my.

We have already witnessed the 2020 Geneva International Motor Show become a casualty of the COVID-19 coronovirus outbreak. So it is not surprising to hear that our own Malaysia Autoshow 2020 will be sharing the same fate. However, according to the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii), Malaysia’s largest annual automotive event – the Malaysia Autoshow 2020, which had been schedule for 9 – 12 April will only take a hiatus.

Malaysia Autoshow 2018, MAEPS SerdangThe postponement of the auto show was decided on as MARii prioritises the health and safety of all those involved with the exhibition i.e. exhibitors, participants, visitors and everyone else involved in the logistics and set-up.

MARii has set the new dates i.e. 2 – 5 July, for the Malaysia Autoshow 2020, at MAEPS, Serdang. This is of course dependent on the ongoing monitoring of the severity of the COVID-19 outbreak.

As per the brand’s move to feature a more premium design, the 2020 Mazda CX-9 receives updated Mazda badging and fonts design as well as a new gray metallic finish to its 20″ aluminum alloy wheels.

Mazda CX-9_7 Seater SUV_Mazda Connect_Infotainment System_Screen_DisplayFor the interior, the 2020 CX-9 gets black leather seats for all three rows with a new silver stitching finish for some classy feel. Other standard features include an updated 9″ Mazda Connect infotainment screen, Auto Hold function as well as i-Stop, seatbelt reminders for 2nd and 3rd row passengers, and an additional two USB charging ports at the third-row for added convenience.

The 2020 Mazda CX-9 continues to be powered by the Skyactiv-G 2.5T turbocharged engine that produces 228 hp @ 5,000 rpm and 420 Nm of torque from 2,000 rpm. The engine features a world’s first Dynamic Pressure turbo with a 4-3-1 exhaust manifold to deliver instant torque seamlessly. This is combined with an exhaust gas recirculation cooling system (EGT) to reduce combustion temperature to aid fuel economy and efficiency. It is paired with a quick-shifting, six-speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic transmission.  2-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants of the CX-9 are available.

Mazda CX-9_SUV_OutdoorsWith the i-Activ all-wheel drive, the 2020 CX-9 is the first Mazda vehicle offered with the all-new Off-road Traction Assist feature. This replacs the traction control button and can potentially help the driver when driving on uneven terrain. When the diagonal wheels lose traction, off-road traction assist will stop reducing the engine torque and increase the brake force on the wheels without traction. This transfers power to the wheels which are still on the ground to help allow the vehicle to regain traction and continue the drive. The Mazda CX-9 also comes standard with G-Vectoring Control Plus which improves steering response to enable the driver and all of its occupants to have a smooth and premium experience.

In terms of advanced safety technologies, the 2020 Mazda CX-9 comes equipped with Mazda’s flagship i-ACTIVSENSE advanced safety technologies including, but not limited to the following: Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA), Smart City Brake Support, Lane Departure Warning with Lane-Keep Assist. At the heart of Make the Future Live Malaysia is Shell Eco-marathon Asia, a platform that challenges students to design and build ultra-energy-efficient vehicles, in a variety of designs and using a spectrum of energy types, and then put them to test. This year, Shell Malaysia is collaborating with Malaysia Automotive Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) to significantly improve the outcome for the five local teams participating in SEMA.

This involved exposing the students to four local original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in a matchmaking session to encourage collaborations between industry players and the Malaysian teams to enhance the performance of their cars.

This partnership is also highly beneficial for the OEMs, giving them firsthand exposure to the potential talent of these students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). The participating industry players are:

Over 100 student teams from 18 countries around Asia Pacific and the Middle East will compete in the Shell Eco-marathon. After spending months designing, building and testing their designs, these bright young engineers will be putting their self-built energy-efficient cars to the test at the Sepang International Circuit.

Shell Eco-marathon Asia will include two key competitions this year. The longest running competition is the Mileage Challenge where teams compete to run their car the farthest distance on the least amount of fuel.

Additionally, teams will have the opportunity to take part in a qualifier for the Drivers’ World Championship. Matching the proven energy-efficiency of their car with the strategy, skill and speed of the driver, this is a race to see who crosses the finish line first without running out of their limited allocation of energy. Top teams will win their place in the 2020 Drivers’ World Championship.

With the study grant, I hope to be a specialist technician for commercial vehicles in the near future,” he said.

Honda Malaysia has launched its flagship executive sedan – the all-new 10th generation Honda Accord, this time with a turbo engine, premium features and driving assistance. There are two variants available in Malaysia i.e. the 1.5 TC and 1.5 TC-P.

Honda_Accord_1.5 VTEC TURBO_EngineBoth variants of the all-new Accord are fitted with an enhanced 1.5L VTEC turbocharged engine, making this the first of the Japanese mass market brands to offer a turbocharged petrol engine in the D-segment. The 1.5L turbo engine has an output of 201 PS and 260 Nm of torque making it more powerful than a 2.4L naturally aspirated one. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) helps transfer the power to the front wheels. This Accord is also certified as an Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV).

All-New 2020 Honda Accord_1.5 TurboThe new Accord gets a fastback styling with a sweeping roofline to the rear and a long-ish bonnet, a deviation from its traditionally three box body. Size-wise, it is wider and lower but slightly shorter than its predecessor in line with its “Man-Maximum, Machine-Minimum” ideal. However, wheelbase has been increased by 55 mm so cabin space is not much of a concern; rear legroom has increased by 48 mm. Like all current Hondas, the Accord comes with a large bar of chrome in front.

According to Honda, it has improved the Accord’s NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) for better comfort and travel ambience. Spray foam is used to provide extra sound insulation and enhance cabin quietness. The application of High-Performance Adhesive (HPA) further improves the structure and rigidity of the body for better durability while also reduces the noise and vibration and improves ride and handling.

An added exterior feature that is unique is the 18″ alloy wheels which is fitted with a resonator to reduce tyre noise (only for the TC-P variant).

2020 Honda Accord_Interior_Seats_MalaysiaAlso new in a Honda vehicle in Malaysia are the 4-way adjustable powered seat with Shoulder Switch, and wireless charging which is integrated into the centre console. The driver’s seat also includes a memory function while the Driver Attention Monitor monitors and alerts the driver when it detects a diversion of the driver’s attention. Other features include 8″ Advanced Display Audio at the centre console, 7″ Interactive Thin Film Transistor (TFT) Meter Cluster, Walk Away Auto Lock, Remote Engine Start.

The higher TC-P variant Accord gets the full suite of Honda SENSING that includes Low Speed Follow (LSF), Auto High-Beam (AHB), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), and Lane Departure Warning (LDW).

2020_Honda Accord_Interior_Park Assist_Display_ScreenThe TC-P also comes with Smart Parking Assist System with Brake Assist (Rear) that recognises the border line of the parking space and assists the driver with automatic steering, screen display, voice guidance and auto braking when an obstacle is detected, as well as a Multi-view Camera System (360° Camera) that displays the car’s surroundings, and Cross Traffic Monitor (CTM) that uses radar sensors to monitor the rear corner of the car when reversing.

These new features add to the existing safety features such as Honda LaneWatch that enhances the side view while reducing the blind spots. Standard safety features include six airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), Hill Start Assist (HSA), front and rear parking sensors with Multi-angle Rearview Camera, and Rear Seat ISOFIX anchors.

Honda Malaysia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Toichi Ishiyama said, “The Accord has 44 years of history since its debut in 1976 with nine full model changes. The Accord has always been very well accepted by Malaysians, with encouraging sales recorded for the previous generations. To-date, there are more than 84,100 units of Accord on Malaysian roads. Each generation of the Accord continues to shine by setting higher benchmark in styling, technology and advanced features in an executive sedan.”

“We are very honoured with the huge support for the Accord from Malaysians over the years. It drives us to continue to offer products that are able to fulfil our customers’ needs and set a new standard in the industry. This All-New Accord being launched today continues to meet customers’ demands with more sophistication and premium features,” Mr. Ishiyama added.

The 2020 Honda Accord is priced at RM185,900 for the 1.5 TC variant and RM195,900 for the 1.5 TC-P variant. The prices are on-the-road without insurance and include a five year unlimited mileage warranty with five times free labour service (five years or 100,000 km, whichever comes first). Body colour options are Crystal Black Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, Modern Steel Metallic and a brand new Platinum White Pearl.
