Cycle & Carriage Bintang Berhad has given five aspiring students a study grant to pursue technical and vocational education. Keeping true to its ‘Exceptional Journeys’ promise, Cycle & Carriage is focusing on affecting people in a positive way. The Cycle & Carriage Study Grant awarded to the five youth will ensure their access to quality technical and vocational education and guaranteed placement with Cycle & Carriage.

“I had plans to stop studying due to financial constraints. This is a turning point in my life. The Cycle & Carriage Study Grant has come at the right time, helping me in my journey to follow my passion and pursue a career in the automotive industry,” said Chandra Gaantan A/L Chandran.

Chandra is one of the five to receive this inaugural financial aid from Cycle & Carriage. He, Kathiravan A/L Suresh and Yash Mithun Raj A/L Marimuthu, are pursuing a course in City & Guilds Diploma Level 3 in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles. The other recipients are Ahmad Aiman bin Abdullah, who is pursuing a diploma in Automotive Technology; and Kirk Lien Sieng, who is studying Automotive – After Sales Services.

This is why we feel strongly about empowering people, especially our youth, as success is not just what we gain, it’s more about the legacy we leave behind. Cycle & Carriage is proud to be part of our youth’s journey as they develop into future drivers and innovators of the automotive industry,” said Cycle & Carriage CEO, Wilfrid Foo. This initiative stems from a passion to empower people, especially the marginalised youth.

Aiman, who is grateful to be selected for this study grant, said his passion in the automotive field was inspired by his brother who serves in the army’s automotive division. Meanwhile, Kathiravan, who is equally happy to be receiving the financial aid, said his passion began from a tender age. “I started with repairing bicycles, then moved on to motorcycles and then cars. With the study grant, I hope to be a specialist technician for commercial vehicles in the near future,” he said.

The Cycle & Carriage Study Grant is open to Malaysian youths aged 16 years and above who are currently enrolled in or have secured a placement in an automotive course within a skills training institution accredited by the Department for Skills Development (DSD) of the Ministry of Human Resources or Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). Applicants must also possess a minimum credit in English and Mathematics either at the Pentaksiran Tingkatan 3 (PT3), Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM) level.

This aid initiative is targeted mainly at youths requiring financial assistance and who come from families with a monthly household income of RM3,000 and below. Each recipient will receive an annual bursary of up to RM5,000 for a maximum of three years.
