Kia Sorento Will Launch With Petrol & Diesel Engine Options In 6 & 7 Seater Variants

The 4th generation Kia Sorento will be launched soon following the announcement by distributor, Dinamikjaya Motors Sdn Bhd, that all Kia showrooms are accepting bookings for the flagship D-segment SUV.

The new Sorento will be locally assembled by Inokom in Kulim, Kedah and will have retail prices in the region of RM220,000 to RM255,000. It will be available with 2 engine options (petrol & diesel) as well as 6- & 7-seater layouts.

Starting off the range will be the ‘base’ 7-seater with a 2-3-2 configuration. It is powered by a 2.5L Smartstream multi-point injection petrol engine that drives the front wheels. Up from that is the 6-seater variant (2-2-2 configuration) with either a 2.5L Smartstream petrol engine or 2.2L Smartstream diesel engine. Both of the 6-seater variants are all-wheel-drive.

On the other hand, the 2.2L diesel engine has 199 hp and 440 Nm, and is paired with Kia’s new 8-speed wet double-clutch transmission (8DCT) which is designed to offer smooth shifting and enhance fuel efficiency.

The new Sorento is redesigned with the concept of “refined boldness” which maintains the robust, tough-looking aesthetic of earlier generations but with a greater level of refinement, elegance and sportiness. The proportions of the Sorento are also subtly changed so it is longer and wider than its predecessor, but with shorter front and rear overhangs. Its wheelbase is also longer by 35 mm (2,815 mm).

The front of the Sorento bears a new interpretation of Kia’s hallmark “tiger nose” grille, with a wider shape which wraps around the integrated headlamps on each side. The headlamps feature a new “tiger eyeline” LED daytime running light.

The cabin gets a change in quality and design, providing a more striking, desirable and comfortable ambience with the use of premium-quality materials. The material quality of the 4th generation Sorento is enhanced with sophisticated next-generation design by blending metallic trims, leather upholstery and embossed wood-effect surfaces. Its interior subtly integrates other technologies to enhance connectivity, driver assistance and infotainment for its occupants.

On the dashboard, the 12.3” digital driver instrument cluster (in 6-seater only) is paired with a 10.25” infotainment system. The infotainment system has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and connected to a BOSE surround sound system for an immersive in-car audio experience. Other notable features include autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and Multi-Collision Brake Control. More details will be revealed at launch.
