PROTON’s positive sales momentum continues for the 4th consecutive month as it posts vehicle sales of 11,935 units in September. This achievement is also the second highest sales the national automotive company has recorded for 2020. September sales increased by 4.9% over August, and is a 33.6% growth on a year-on-year basis. Total sales for 2020 so far is 73,607 vehicles, about 4.3% ahead of last year’s numbers. PROTON estimates that its current market share is 21.6%, putting it at second place in the local market.
Similar to its August performance, three Proton models continue to lead in their respective categories. The Proton X70 continues to dominate the overall SUV market overall with 2,849 units sold, its second best sales month of 2020. Meanwhile, the Persona and Exora also remain as bestsellers in their class with 2,606 and 748 units sold respectively.
The Saga is still the brand’s volume seller with 4,949 cars sold. While the Iriz is third place in the B-segment hatchback, with 782 units sold in September.
“With Total-Industry-Volume (TIV) exceeding 50,000 units for a third month in a row, Malaysia’s automotive market has achieved a measure of stability post MCO. At PROTON we are relieved and confident as our results are showing consistency, as we have beat our monthly sales numbers from the previous year. This is a clear indicator of a return to a sustainable sales volume,” said Roslan Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer, Proton Edar.
PROTON is expecting its upcoming all-new model, the Proton X50, to help the company continue its positive momentum. Since it started accepting bookings for the X50 in the middle of September, the company reported it had received 20,000 bookings in two weeks, exceeding its expectations.
“PROTON would like to thank all its customers for the tremendous interest shown in the Proton X50. We are pushing to ensure fulfilment over the last three months of 2020, while continuing to emphasise product quality,” added Roslan Abdullah.
