Volvo Car Malaysia Introduces T6 Variant Of S60 Sedan

At a presentation outlining Volvo’s powertrain strategy for the future, Volvo Car Malaysia MD, Lennart Stegland, took the opportunity to introduce a new variant of the S60 sedan. The S60 T6 is priced at RM 280,888 (on the road, without insurance) and features a 2-litre 4-cylinder engine from the new Drive-E range. Engine output is rated at 306 hp and 400 Nm of torque. In comparison, a slightly higher priced Mercedes-Benz C250 dishes out 211 hp and 350 Nm.

Top speed              : 230 km/h

Fuel consumption : 6.7 l / 100 km

Other than the new engine, there are no significant changes to its looks inside and out.

Safety is synonymous with the brand and some of the features in the S60 T6 are: Park Assist Pilot (semi-auto parking), Lane Keeping Aid (active between 65 km/h and 200 km/h), Active High Beam Control (prevents dazzling oncoming drivers), Pedestrian & Cyclist Detection, City Safety (active up to 50 km/h; brakes automatically if vehicle in front slows down or stops), Blind Spot Information System, Cross Traffic Alert (helpful when reversing the car out of a parking lot), Adaptive Cruise Control (maintains distance to the car in front) and Road Sign Information.

Besides these ‘toys’, what makes the petrolhead happy will be the paddle shifters. In a brief test drive, the urgency felt when the pedal is floored came courtesy of a supercharger and turbocharger. Its 8 gears are used quite efficiently although only 6 were used in this short drive. The gearbox performed admirably when we had to slow down in heavy traffic and when we pushed past cars as the road cleared. It comes with a sweet engine note too, by default. Torque steer is expected in a front-wheel drive car pushing out this much power but it wasn’t detrimental to the driving experience.
