Portuguese paper singles out Continental plant as Best Company

Portuguese business newspaper Exame has named Continental’s tyre plant in Lousado the ‘Best Company’ of Portugal, citing increasing productivity, high value creation and balanced financing as key attributes for the company’s fifth successive win.

The plant opened its doors in 1989 has since grown into one of the most important employers of the region. Its annual production output has grown from 1 million tyres at the start to 16 million today.

Continental Corporation has invested about €400 million in the plant since 1989. The plant at present has a workforce of 1,620 employees. Traditionally, the tyres from Portugal are earmarked for the European market and the MENENA economic region (Mid and Near East, North Africa).
