Perodua Alza now available in more affordable SR version

by -

Perodua is one of the industry’s great masters in varying its product line-up not in terms of model offerings, but in the sheer number of variants with each of its three models – Viva, Myvi, and Alza. Here comes another one, and it is the Alza Smart Ride, or Alza SR, available in Perodua showrooms nationwide effective today.

The new variant is available in three colours, namely Glittering Silver, Ivory White, and Mystical Purple. On-the-road pricing with insurance ranges from RM53,013.50 to RM56,513.50 with the usual choices of manual and automatic transmission as well as metallic and solid paint available. This is actually lower than the existing Standard model that sells between RM55,503.50 and RM59,203.50.

Actual differences between the SR and Standard models are in fact minute, and will be difficult to spot. What Perodua has done is to remove whatever glossy bits that are possible from the Standard model make this an even more affordable variant. External omissions are the darkened window frames and chrome bits on the grille. Alloy rims are still offered, so it won’t be immediately obvious that you’re driving the baseline variant.

Similar changes are made inside, but the biggest alteration is reserved for the automatic model, which now has a floor-mounted parking brake. If you recall, higher-spec variants of the Alza offer foot-operated parking brake for automatic transmission models.

“Our customers like the versatility and functionality that Alza offers and do not mind having less features available compared with the standard and other variants. However, it does not mean we have compromised on the safety and the aesthetics of the Alza SR,” said Perodua Managing Director Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh.

Since its launch in November 2009, Perodua has sold 81,000 units of the Alza, and this new variant is expected to add 400 sales per month, contributing a projected 13% of total Alza sales.
