Smart mobility provider, ACO Tech, has formed a partnership with Geno and the Malaysia, Automotive, Robotics & IoT Institute (MARii) to advance Malaysia’s EV infrastructure. The Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) will see the 3 parties delve into the potential of blockchain solutions to develop the local EV ecosystem.

The collaboration will explore various blockchain solutions such as smart contracts, digital traceability management of supply chains, tokenomics solutions, and privacy protection technologies, to complement ACO Tech’s E-Mobility Service Platform (EMSP). This initiative aims to ensure data privacy and ownership, enable data monetization, and benefit strategic investors through sustainable, long-term investments. The EMSP is the foundational layer of the government’s Connected Mobility Vision, designed to accelerate EV infrastructure development nationwide. ???????????????????

ACO Tech, Geno, and MARii will leverage their combined expertise and capabilities to address key concerns associated with EV ownership such as charging port scarcity and inconsistent charging rates. By utilising blockchain technology, this alliance empowers EV manufacturers, service providers, and owners / users to engage through a tamper-proof decentralised ledger system. The objective is to reduce costs, enhance user experience and confidence, and establish seamless tracking and maintenance records. Additionally, it facilitates peer-to-peer energy and charger-sharing, ensuring transparency throughout the entire lifecycle of products and services.

Aligning with the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030 and the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), the government aims to achieve significant milestones in electrified vehicles (xEV) adoption. The government is trying to encourage an xEV adoption rate of 20% by 2030, 50% by 2040 and 80% by 2050. This will also support the realisation of the National Automotive Policy (NAP) 2020 by laying a solid foundation for the development of Next Generation Vehicles (NxGV), including EVs, and establishing a national EV-ready infrastructure through Mobility as a Service (MaaS) and blockchain as a service (BaaS).

“We are excited at the growth prospects of the mobility sector in Malaysia thanks to the Government’s support and progressive national policies. As a leading smart mobility solutions provider, ACO Tech is ready to share our knowledge and expertise as well as support all stakeholders in achieving national goals. We are confident collaborations such as ours with MARii and Geno are the way forward in accelerating and expediting a comprehensive and conducive EV ecosystem for Malaysia, with an emphasis on security. By addressing challenges and capitalising on opportunities, Malaysia can position itself as a leader in the EV revolution in Southeast Asia,” commented ACO Tech CEO, Mr. Li Pu.

EV_Charging StationMeanwhile, MARii CEO Mr. Azrul Reza Aziz expressed “Our collaboration with ACO Tech, a joint venture between PROTON, ECARX and Altel Communications, and Geno, marks a significant step forward in shaping the future of Malaysia’s EV ecosystem. By exploring blockchain solutions, we are not only addressing current challenges in the EV sector but also laying the groundwork for a secure and scalable infrastructure aligned with the National Automotive Policy 2020. By synergising our capabilities, we aspire to set new industry standards, promoting sustainable practices and user-centric innovations.”

Geno CEO Mr. Zhang Yi Ian expressed pride in the contributions of the Geno team to the project. “This initiative signifies the first industrial-grade application of a blockchain solution. The primary goal is to facilitate a transformative shift for participating enterprises towards a service-focused model. This strategic move is aimed at enhancing engagement with end-user customers, enabling earlier, deeper, and more enduring interactions.”

And now it is confirmed that the company has brought in the Ora 07 as well as the GWM Tank 300. These 2 models are part of GWM Malaysia’s planned expansion of its product line-up. At the Malaysia Autoshow in May 2023, GWM had showed off the GWM Cannon pickup truck, Haval H6 as well as Haval Jolion hybrid SUVs, but not the Tank.

The GWM Tank 300 is its take on a rugged off-roader. Built on a 2,750 mm wheelbase, the Tank measures 4,760 mm long, 1,930mm wide and 1,903mm tall. Ground clearance is reported at 224 mm, with the vehicle having an approach angle of 33 degrees and a departure angle of 34 degrees.

The Tank 300 is powered by a 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 petrol engine offering 217 hp and 380 Nm of torque that is sent to a 4WD system via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. There is also a hybrid variant with the 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder engine paired with a 78 kW electric motor to give a combined output of 258 kW (346 hp) and 615 Nm of torque. There is no indication yet which powertrain option will be available here.

As for the Ora 07, its official launch is pretty much confirmed for the first quarter of this year. This streamlined coupe will join the Good Cat in GWM Malaysia’s EV portfolio. Also known as the Lightning Cat, the B-segment Ora 07 comes in 2 powertrain configurations i.e. a single electric motor variant and a dual electric variant. Both variants should be using an 83.5 kWh ternary lithium battery pack for a driving range of up to 640 km and 550 km respectively.

Based on Thailand’s specs, the powertain of the front-wheel-drive Ora 07 Long Range variant provides 150 kw (201 hp) and 340 Nm, with top speed capped at 170 km/h. Meanwhile, the Ora 07 Performance has all-wheel-drive and its dual motor powertrain provides 300 kW (402 hp) and 680 Nm, with a maximum speed of 180 km/h. The latter variant claims a 0 – 100 km/h sprint time of 4.3 seconds.

Meanwhile, the Ora Good Cat now includes the Pistachio Green body colour in its range. This was previously exclusive to just the Good Cat 500 Ultra. The body colour choices currently available for the Good Cat are Coral Blue, Sun Black, Hamilton White, Mars Red (with Black roof), Hamilton White (with Black roof), Verdant Green (with White roof), and EM Beige (with Wisdom Brown roof).
