MAN Truck & Bus has once again earned international recognition for its groundbreaking advancements in commercial vehicle technology. The company’s hydrogen-powered MAN hTGX has been awarded the Truck Innovation Award 2025 by the International Truck of the Year (IToY) jury at the IAA Commercial Vehicles event. MAN hTGX_Hydrogen Truck_2025 Truck Innovation Award

Expanding Zero-Emission Solutions

The MAN hTGX, powered by a hydrogen combustion engine, complements the company’s existing battery-electric vehicle lineup, offering a versatile zero-emission option for heavy-duty applications. MAN Truck & Bus is the first European truck manufacturer to develop a small production series using hydrogen combustion, with deliveries scheduled for Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Iceland, and select markets by 2025.

Dr. Frederik Zohm, Executive Board member for Research & Development at MAN Truck & Bus, emphasised the importance of the award and the role of the MAN hTGX in decarbonizing road freight transport. “By being classified as a zero-emission vehicle, the hTGX makes an important contribution to the decarbonisation of road freight transport,” said Zohm.

Recognised For Innovation

This marks the 3rd time MAN has secured the Truck Innovation Award. The company was previously recognised in 2024 for its pioneering work in autonomous driving with the ANITA and ATLAS-L4 projects, and in 2019, MAN’s automated construction site protection vehicle AFAS won the same accolade.

The IToY jury lauded the MAN hTGX for its diesel-like performance, robust handling, and impressive hydrogen-powered range of approximately 600 kilometers. The truck is equipped with a 16.8-liter H4576 6-cylinder hydrogen engine and features a 56-kilo hydrogen pressure tank with 700-bar capacity. Additionally, the vehicle boasts a simplified exhaust gas treatment system, reducing environmental impact even further.MAN_hTGX_Hydrogen_Truck

Versatile Zero-Emission Truck For Specialised Markets

The hydrogen-powered MAN hTGX is designed for demanding applications, such as construction, timber, and tanker transport, where high payload and long-range capabilities are essential. It will be available in 6×2 and 6×4 axle configurations, enabling a maximum range of up to 600 kilometers. For regions lacking sufficient charging infrastructure for battery-electric trucks or those with established hydrogen refueling networks, the hTGX provides a viable zero-emission alternative.

The engine, based on MAN’s D38 diesel unit, will be produced in the company’s Nuremberg engine and battery plant.

BFGoodrich has introduced the latest addition to its renowned All-Terrain lineup in Malaysia i.e. the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 tire. This new all-terrain tyre is an evolution of the highly regarded BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2, featuring advanced technology to enhance off-road performance.

Designed with adventure seekers in mind, the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 offers improved mobility for various terrains, through the use of the latest innovations in tyre technology. To emphasise the brand’s heritage, the KO comes with raised white lettering on the sidewall as well as the Baja Champion badge on more tyre sizes.BFGoodrich_All-Terrain TA KO3 Tyre_Sidewall_Lettering

“Our commitment at BFGoodrich has always been to deliver products that meet the highest standards of performance and durability, and the All-Terrain T/A KO3 tire is no exception. Built by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, the tire reflects our deep understanding of what passionate all-terrain explorers demand. Through continuous cutting-edge improvements in our world-class tyre technology, we are excited to bring the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 tyre to the Malaysian market. This is an embodiment of BFGoodrich’s pursuit of innovation to exceed the expectations of our customers who deserve the best for their vehicle needs wherever they go,” said Prichapakorn Dangrojana, Managing Director of Michelin Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei.BFGoodrich KO3_Michelin Malaysia

The new BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 surpasses its predecessor in key areas such as treadwear, toughness, and traction, making it an ideal choice for off-road enthusiasts in Malaysia’s varied landscapes. It is also designed as a versatile tyre to go from tarmac to off-road.

The new tread pattern and all-terrain compound improve durability and longevity, even on gravel. While the optimised footprint and full-depth 3D locking sipes ensure even wear over time, resulting in better mileage and wear performance.BFGoodrich All-Terrain TA KO3 Tyre_Tread

The tyre’s toughness is enhanced by the improved CoreGard Technology, also featured on the BFGoodrich Baja T/A KR3, which strengthens the sidewall to prevent damage from rugged terrain. This technology extends split- and bruise-resistant rubber down the sidewall to protect vulnerable areas, while the Advanced Deflection Design prevents objects from snagging and splitting the sidewall.

Traction remains a standout feature of the KO3, with full-depth 3D locking sipes, serrated shoulders, and Mud-Phobic Bars providing excellent grip even in difficult conditions. The tyre has earned the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake severe-snow rating, making it capable of handling extreme winter conditions. With its interlocking tread design which stabilises the tread centre, the tyre is able to maximise handling and traction both on and off the road. Additionally, the new All-Terrain tread compound improves wet traction, allowing the tyre to stop 4.2 metres shorter than the KO2.BFGoodrich All-Terrain TA Off-road Tyre_KO3 vs KO2

BFGoodrich Malaysia plans to roll out more than 62 sizes of the All-Terrain T/A KO3 over the next 24 months, with 39 sizes being launched in 3 phases starting September 2024. The recommended retail prices for the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 will range from RM825 to RM2,946.

Jaecoo Malaysia is making its mark in Malaysia’s SUV market. Subsequent to its launch of the Jaecoo J7 SUV, it has recently offered a preview of the upcoming Omoda C9. This D-segment 5-seater SUV is set to shake up the segment with its competitive pricing, performance, premium comfort as well as advanced features. The Omoda C9 will be available from launch (in December 2024) as a locally assembled model in 2 variants i.e. C9 2WD and C9 AWD, with prices estimated around RM185,000 and RM195,000 respectively.

The Omoda C9 is included in Jaecoo Malaysia’s product portfolio as it is responsible for the marketing of ‘attainable luxury’ / ‘premium off-road’ vehicles from the Chery group. And like Jaecoo Malaysia’s current line-up, the Omoda C9 also features off-road terrain modes. However, it wears the Omoda badge to differentiate it from the squarer / boxier styling of Jaecoo’s theme.

Measuring 4,775 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,671 mm in height, the Omoda C9 provides a commanding driving position. Further, the boot is a spacious 660 litres which can be expanded to 1,783 litres with the rear seats folded. The boot can be accessed via an auto-lift tailgate with proximity sensing. With a wheelbase of 2,800 mm and ground clearance of 165 mm, it’s built for both urban and off-road adventures, with the ability to wade through water that is up to 450 mm deep. The vehicle has an approach angle of 20.6º and a departure angle of 19.2º, making it quite capable of off-road jaunts. Additionally, the C9 is shod with 245/50 Michelin Primacy tyres on its 20″ R20 multi-blade alloy wheels, which combined with its Continuous Damping Control real-time adaptive suspension system, supported by MacPherson struts at the front and multi-link at the rear, ensure smooth handling in all kinds of conditions.

Powering the C9 is a 2.0L TGDI inline 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine that produces 257 hp and 400 Nm of torque, paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission, and ends with quad exhaust pipes at the back. The 2WD variant offers the standard 3 driving modes (Eco, Normal, Sport), while the AWD version comes with 7 modes which includes specialised off-road terrain settings.

The Omoda C9 stands out with sleek coupe style silhouette, featuring a diamond matrix grille and sigma-inspired daytime running lights as well as intelligent adaptive control LED headlights in front, complemented by LED tail lights which spans the width of the tailgate. Features such as keyless door entry with Near Field Communication (NFC), walkaway locking, and flushed door handles enhance convenience and styling. Furthermore, the acoustic windshield contributes to a quieter, more comfortable interior.

The interior of the C9 delivers luxury through features such as leather seats (front ones have heating and ventilation), soft touch leather trim, active ambient lighting, 14-speaker Sony surround sound system, and electrically adjustable rear seat backrests. Other convenient features include a 3-zone climate control with fragrance and air quality system, 50W wireless charging with cooler, ventilated storage compartment, 24.6″ single-panel HD display, head-up display and heated steering wheel.

Drivers will also appreciate the paddle shifters, driver monitoring system, powered driver’s seat with 8 adjustable positions, a memory function, and ventilation for optimal comfort, 540-degree around view monitor, as well as personalised speakers embedded in the driver’s headrest.

“Ahead of our official launch in December, we are looking forward to prepare the market for the introduction of the Omoda C9. We take pride in understanding the market’s needs and preferences. We believe the C9 fulfils the market’s desire for a new exploration of attainable luxury,” said Chery Corporate Malaysia Executive Vice President, Leo Chen.

“Backed by independent innovation, advanced technology, and commitment to quality, Jaecoo is focused on providing premium SUVs to customers. We started with the J7, and the response from the Malaysian market continues to be exceptional.  To further excite the market, Jaecoo is launching the C9, the first premium off-road SUV coupe in Southeast Asia, with 2WD and AWD variants. The C9 carries all the traits of the Jaecoo DNA, redefined attainable luxury and refined urban appeal,” explained Jaecoo Malaysia Vice President, Emily Lek.

Safety is a priority for Jaecoo, with the C9 getting fitted with Level 2.5 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) which includes features such as Blind Spot Detection, Door Opening Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Emergency Lane Keep Assist. The C9’s body is also constructed from 85% high-strength steel and it comes with 8 airbags for added protection.

Registration of interest is already open, and there will be roadshows organised in late October for you to experience the C9 up close.

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has launched the facelifted Mitsubishi Xpander, this time offering 2 variants i.e. Xpander (RM99,980) and Xpander Plus (RM109,980). The stated prices (on-the-road, without insurance in Peninsular Malaysia) are introductory prices for registrations by 31 December 2024. Subsequently, the prices could be revised for 2025. Furthermore, early bird buyers can benefit from additional incentives, with the first 500 customers who book and register the Xpander through the Mitsubishi Online Showroom receiving a Naturehike Camping Wagon worth RM400. Both variants come with a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty for long-term peace of mind.Mitsubishi_Xpander_Standard & Plus

The locally assembled Mitsubishi Xpander is considered Malaysia’s best-selling non-national MPV. The updated Xpander boasts enhancements in both design and functionality. Its exterior styling reflects sophistication and practicality, with Mitsubishi’s signature Dynamic Shield front design featuring a newly integrated horizontal bumper and 3-dimensional skid plate. Another notable change in this facelift is the new T-shaped LED headlights. The T-shape theme is also duplicated for the LED tail lights.

The Xpander’s body measures 4,475 mm long, 1,750 mm wide, and 1,730 mm tall, and sits on a 2,775 mm wheelbase. Its ground clearance of 225 mm (up 20 mm from the previous) is the best in class and ensures good clearance for various terrains as well as submerged roads. The obvious differences on the exterior between the 2 variants are the silver (Xpander Plus variant) vs black accent trims on the bumpers, as well as the black roof spoiler that is exclusive to the Plus. Both variants run on 17″ alloy wheels with 205/55 tyres. Additionally, the windshield is covered with a sound insulation film.

Inside, the facelift gets a redesigned dashboard and centre console. And with that comes a new steering wheel (with tilt & telescopic options), climate control interface as well as an electronic parking brake button to replace the previous handbrake lever, and frees up more space. Both variants come with a 9″ touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as 6 speakers. Also standard across both variants are the storage drawer under the front passenger seat, rear air vents, one-touch tumble 2nd row seats that also slide and recline, reclining 3rd row seats, and cruise control. Further, boot space is 495 litres with the 3rd row seats folded (flat folding).

On the performance side, the Mitsubishi Xpander is powered by a 1.5L MIVEC petrol engine which generates 105 PS (104 hp) @ 6,000 rpm and 141 Nm of torque @ 4,000 rpm. Built with an aluminum block for reduced weight and increased efficiency, the engine is paired with a smooth 4-speed automatic transmission. According to MMM, the choice of sticking with a conventional auto gearbox as opposed to a CVT is mainly for robustness and ease of maintenance, and is more preferred by its target buyers. The meter cluster has also been redesigned with high-contrast graphics for better readability.Mitsubishi_1.5L MIVEC Engine

As for safety kit, both Xpander variants use the Mitsubishi’s RISE body with extra rigid frame, with side impact door beams, and has 2 airbags. However, the Xpander Plus adds on an all-round monitor (reverse camera only for the standard Xpander), front and rear digital driving recorders, door visors, leatherette upholstery, interior scuff plates, and wireless charger.

“With an SUV-like driving experience, the newly updated 7-seater Xpander crossover is meticulously crafted to ensure exceptional customer satisfaction. From its sleek design to its versatile capabilities, the Xpander is crafted to meet the diverse needs of modern families and adventurous individuals alike,” said Shinya Ikeda, Chief Executive Officer of MMM.

Ikeda added, “Since its Open-for-Booking announcement on 12 September 2024, the Mitsubishi Xpander has received positive response. MMM would like to thank all its customers for showing overwhelming interest in the 2024 Mitsubishi Xpander. We will try our utmost effort on production to honour these early bird customers as much as possible.”Mitsubishi Xpander Plus_2024

MMM is currently represented by 61 showrooms (with 8 being 4S) and 61 service nationside. In East Malaysia, MMM has 16 showrooms (8 in Sarawak and 8 in Sabah). According to Ikeda, “By 2025, we plan to open four more outlets, reaching a total of 65 to meet growing demand and improve customer experience.”

In conjunction with the Xpander launch, MMM is hosting a series of roadshows and showroom events nationwide as part of its “Drive Your Ambition Brand Festival,” allowing customers to explore the new Xpander’s stylish design and updated features firsthand.

Chery Malaysia is hopeful that more Malaysian athletes will qualify for the 2028 Olympics and further make a mark in the global sporting arena. Chew expressed pride in the Malaysian contingent’s results in Paris, celebrating their success as a symbol of dedication, hard work, and national pride.

“Sports hold a special place in the heart of every Malaysian, inspiring unity and pride as we come together as one team, one nation,” Chew added. “At Chery Malaysia, we understand the transformative power of sports and we are deeply committed to nurturing local talents, ensuring that our athletes have the support they need to shine on the world stage”.

The brand continues to establish its presence in Malaysia, using various initiatives and platforms to further engage with the Malaysian consumers.

PROTON is expanding its global reach with the commencement of a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) operations in Egypt. At a recent flag-off ceremony, 120 units of left-hand-drive (LHD) Proton Saga CKD packs began its trip to Egypt.

“Export sales are an important area of focus for PROTON in our efforts to achieve our long term goals. As the  Malaysian automotive market reaches a natural saturation point, future volume growth potential will come from overseas markets where consumer demand is expected to be on an upward trend in the future. The addition of CKD operations in Egypt brings the number of plants involved in CKD and SKD activities for PROTON outside of Malaysia to 5,” said PROTON Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Roslan Abdullah.PROTON_Saga_CKD_Egypt

PROTON has been active in the Egyptian automotive market since 2004 through its partner, Ezz Elarab. In that time, nearly 17,000 Completely Built-Up (CBU) units have been shipped to Egypt. With local assembly targeted to begin in December 2024 at an Ezz Elarab Elsewedy Automotive Factories (ESAF) plant, the company expects to ship 1,400 units in 2024 and aims to increase production to 5,000 units by 2025.

“Locally assembling the Proton Saga in Egypt, allows the company to meet the aim of the Egyptian government to limit the number of CBU imports into the country while also encouraging local assembly activities. This in turn creates the potential for greater future capacity expansion in the country, especially after we launch new models, with the aim to make Egypt the hub for Proton vehicle exports in the North African region,” said Steven Xu, Director of International Sales, PROTON.

PROTON expects CKD operations in Egypt to generate RM570 million in revenue from CKD packs by 2026, with an additional RM20 million anticipated from parts exports. The Egyptian government stands to benefit as well, with local duties and taxes projected to bring in RM180 million over the same period.

“PROTON is the leading exporter of vehicles in Malaysia and while our current volume is approximately 3% of our total sales numbers, efforts are being made to increase that number by focusing on multiple core areas. For instance, PROTON engage with its vendors to reduce component costs and while also inviting them to collaborate with companies in other countries to develop supply chains for our overseas production activities. This will pay dividends in the long term not only for the company and its vendors, but also for the development of the automotive industries in these foreign markets,” added Steven Xu.

Attendees of the event included notable figures such as H.E. Ragai Tawfik Said Nasr, the Egyptian Ambassador to Malaysia, and Datuk Hanafi Sakri, Deputy Secretary General (Industry) from the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry. Key partners like Amr Abou-Elseoud of Ezz Elarab Elsewedy Automotive Factories were also hosted by Tan Sri Syed Faisal Albar, Chairman of PROTON, alongside Roslan Abdullah.PROTON_Ezz Elarab Elsewedy Automotive Factories_Egypt_CKD Operations
