The performance-oriented BMW X3 M Competition and BMW X4 M Competition have made their debut in Malaysia, expanding the BMW portfolio of premium mid-size segment vehicles with M powered machines. They are retailing for RM886,551.58 (X3 M Competition) and RM904,276.60 (X4 M Competition) respectively. These prices are on the road, without insurance, and include BMW Group Malaysia’s latest 5 Years Unlimited Mileage Warranty, and Free Scheduled Service Programme.

BMW X3 M Competition_Front View_LaunchNaturally, the BMW X3 M Competition and X4 M Competition both wear the characteristic M design elements. The front section of the vehicles is made up of the distinctive front apron and large, hexagonal air intake built for optimal ventilation for the front brakes under high thermal loads. The new BMW M models also feature adaptive LED headlights with high-beam assistant, along with full-LED taillights as standard. Black kidney grille surrounds, side gills and wing mirror caps are also standard to the models.

BMW X4 M Competition_Front Wheel_Brake Caliper_Side VentAt the rear, the M Sport exhaust system is easily recognisable by its four black chrome tailpipes and adds an unmistakable sound at high revs. The new BMW M models also run 21″ bicolour M light alloy wheels and are equipped with Adaptive M suspension.

Further, the X3 M Competition features a slim diffuser in high-gloss Black and an M-specific roof spoiler. While the X4 M Competition features a black aerodynamic spoiler at the rear.

To go with the aggressive looks is the performance. Powering the two models is a newly developed 3.0L M TwinPower Turbo straight six engine. Maximum output is listed as 510 hp and 600 Nm of torque @ 2,600 – 5,950 rpm. The century sprint is claimed at 4.1 seconds while top speed is limited to 250 km/h. The new BMW M models consume 10.6l/100km and produces carbon emission of 244g/km.

BMW X3 M Competition_Centre Console_M Gear Selector Lever_iDriveThe engine power is sent via an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic, which includes shift paddles on the steering wheel. The three Drivelogic modes available are Efficient, Sport, and Sport Plus. Moreover, the chassis of these M models has been upgraded with a high proportion of M-specific components for even sportier driving characteristics, improving not just performance but handling and lateral dynamics as well.

The strut brace in the engine compartment increases stiffness of the front section to counter strong lateral acceleration. This is complemented by adaptive dampers, stiffer stabilisers, and Active M Differential and M Compound Brakes that are made of composite materials to reduce weight. The M xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive also allows for conventional variable power distribution. Switching to Sport mode will provide even more pronounced rear-wheel bias.

Further, both M models benefit from advanced assistance systems and intelligent in-car connectivity features. This includes the Head-Up Display with M-specific display variants and Parking Assistant Plus featuring Surround View and Remote 3D Service.

BMW X4 M Competition_Control Display_Infotainment TouchscreenThe infotainment system consists of the 10.25″ Control Display accessible via the iDrive controller, touch, and the BMW Gesture Control. ConnectedDrive Services are available as standard and equip owners with Concierge Service, Teleservices, Remote Services, Intelligent Emergency Call and Apple CarPlay.

The assistance systems such as the Driving Assistant Plus and Parking Assistant Plus are standard. The Comfort Access system also offers both convenience and safety with automatic tailgate operation.

Additionally, the Harman Kardon surround sound system packs 600W amplifier power, nine channels and 16 speakers into the cabin.

BMW X3 M Competition_Front SeatsSpeaking of the cabin, both feature Leather Merino upholstery and are kitted with M interior bits such as entry sills, steering wheel, pedals, gear selector lever, seat belts, knee pads, red M Drive buttons, red Start/Stop button, carbon fibre trim finishers and M-specific instrument cluster. The M sport front seats also offer active seat ventilation and lumbar support, with illuminated M badge at the base of the semi-integrated head restraint. Exclusively for the X3 M Competition are backrest adjustment for the rear seats as well as roller sunblinds for rear side windows.

In terms of luggage capacity, the X3 M Competition offers 550 litres of boot space that can be increased to 1,600 litres. On the other hand, the X4 M Competition has 525 litres that expand up to 1,430 litres.

Exterior colour options are Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Donington Grey, Phytonic Blue, Sophisto Grey and the new Toronto Red. Depending on the exterior colour, the interior can be furnished with premium Leather Merino interior upholstery in Black, Sakhir Orange or Adelaide Grey.

Powertrain

BMW M8 Gran Coupe_4.4L V8 M PowerThe BMW M8 Coupé and BMW M8 Gran Coupé are powered by a completely redesigned high-revving V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology. The 4.4L engine delivers 600 hp and 750 Nm between 1,800 and 5,600 rpm. That makes this unit, also known as the S63, the most powerful BMW M engine ever built for a production model. It can propel the M8 from 0 – 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds, and achieve a top speed of 250 km/h (limited).

The M8 Coupé has an average fuel consumption (combined cycle) of 10.4l/100km, while the M8 Gran Coupé is 10.7l/100km. Combined CO2 output is 239g/km and 243g/km respectively.

The V8 engine has a choice of three different set-ups, from the default EFFICIENT setting to SPORT and SPORT PLUS. Depending on the mode selected, the system will change the V8 engine’s response to accelerator pedal pressure as well as the sound characteristics of the flap-controlled exhaust system. Further, the Sound Control button next to the gear selector lever allows drivers to adjust the sound of the vehicle according to their personal preferences.

BMW M8 Coupe_M Steptronic Gear Selector_Centre Console_iDrivePower is transmitted via a new 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic, operated sequentially via an M8-specific gear selector in S mode, or manually via shift paddles. The D button enables the driver to choose between three different Drivelogic modes, which are activated through an integrated rocker switch in the vehicles’ new gear selector.

Dynamics

BMW M8 Gran Coupe_Front Wheel_M Brake Caliper_HeadlightDriving dynamics are provided by the M xDrive all-wheel drive system that contributes to the vehicles’ directional stability and superior traction. Its rear-wheel bias makes it suitable for extremely dynamic driving. Moreover, the fully variable torque split of the all-wheel drive system makes the vehicle easy to control at all times. Drivers can also adapt the M xDrive’s power distribution according to personal preferences i.e. from the default 4WD setting to 4WD Sport mode and, with the DSC switched off, a rear-wheel-drive-only 2WD mode for use on the track.

Drivers can also configure their own dynamic set-up, using the “COMFORT”, “SPORT” and “SPORT+” buttons to influence the engine as well as the M-specific Variable Damper Control and M Servotronic steering.

These coupés are also fitted with M-specific integrated brake system. This innovative technology combines brake activation, brake booster and braking control functions in one compact module. The required brake pressure is established by an electric actuator. This optimises braking dynamics and pedal feel as well as the precision and speed of DSC stability control interventions. Both models also feature lighter M Compound brakes with blue calipers as standard.

BMW M8 Gran Coupe_FrontThe two coupés feature the new M-specific front apron, along with the BMW kidney grille featuring M-specific decorative mesh, double slats and M8 designation. The slender BMW Laserlights with high-beam assistant are positioned slightly higher than the kidney grille and widens towards the road, thus emphasising the models’ low-slung stance and low centre of gravity.

Exterior mirrors with the characteristic M twin-stalk design are also fitted on both cars. Typical to BMW premium coupés, frameless side windows and BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line adorn either side of the vehicles, while flared aluminium wings with M gills and M8 designation emphasise track width and wheel size. Towards the rear, both models sport the M rear spoiler, as well as M-specific M8 rear diffuser and M-specific exhaust system with twin tailpipes and chrome trims.

BMW M8 Coupe_Rear WheelOther highlights of the two-door M8 Coupé and four-door M8 Gran Coupé include the soft-close function for doors and carbon roof made of self-coloured carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) that saves weight and lowers the vehicles’ centre of gravity. BMW M8 Gran Coupe_Front SeatsThe cockpit of the M8 Coupé and M8 Gran Coupé features a sporty, low seating position. The M Sport seats have electric adjustment options including a Memory function. Seat position, backrest angle, backrest width and thigh support can be individually adjusted. The M Sport seats with their integrated, illuminated M logo, and the full leather dashboard and door trim panels create a sporty and sophisticated appearance. The controls are grouped into clusters according to their function for easy convenience. The models also come with the M8 wordmark on the door entry sills.

The rear seats, upholstered in Merino leather as standard, are comfortable, with a moulded shape that provides maximum lateral support even during dynamic driving. The M8 Coupé has 420 litres of luggage space, and its 50/50-split rear seat backrest folds down to increase it. The M8 Gran Coupé offers 440 litres of space with a 40/20/40-split backrest. Other highlights include the M-specific gearshift lever knob, M seat belts and the 16-speaker Harman Kardon surround sound system with 464-watt amplifier power.

Infotainment And Connectivity

BMW M8 Gran Coupe_Live Cockpit Professional_Digital Instrument ClusterBoth models come with the BMW Live Cockpit Professional running on the BMW Operating System 7.0. It consists of a 12.3″ digital instrument cluster, a high-resolution 10.25″ Control Display and a full-colour Head-Up Display with additional M-specific displays. Both vehicles can be operated via the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant’s latest voice control system, direct menu control buttons, the intuitive iDrive Touch Controller with its rotary/push button, the touchscreen Control Display or the Gesture Control system.

The new M Mode selector on the centre console can be used to control the driver assistance systems as well as the content of the instrument cluster displays and the Head-Up Display. M Mode can be used to activate the ROAD and SPORT settings. Honda Malaysia has announced that the all-new Honda City RS with intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) will make its world premiere in Malaysia. The RS will be introduced together with three other variants of the 5th generation City most like in Q4 of 2020, all of which are now open for booking.

The RS is conceptualised as ‘Road Sailing’, and offers Honda’s version of sporty and stylish appeal. The i-MMD powertrain system, known globally as e:HEV, spearheads Honda’s Next Generation Hybrid Technology to provide eco-conscious performance without compromising on driving enjoyment. The new powertrain provides high efficiency electrification combined with direct and smooth response. The i-MMD powertrain was previously only available in Honda’s larger class of vehicles.

Honda_Earth Dreams TechnologyHonda engineers have adapted the i-MMD system to be more compact and efficient to fit smaller vehicles. The new Honda City still comes with a 1.5L i-VTEC engine albeit updated for performance and efficiency. For the RS variant, the i-MMD powertrain delivers best-in-class torque of 253 Nm for faster acceleration, equivalent to a D-segment or a 2.5L Naturally Aspirated engine.

Volkswagen Passat R-Line_Side ViewThe Passat R-Line has been introduced by Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) and is now open for booking. The sportier version the Passat is also locally assembled like the other new R-Line models recently introduced. The official price is pending confirmation but it is expected to be priced between RM200,000 to RM210,000.

The Passat R-Line is dressed in sporty R-Line front and rear bumpers, side R-Line badge, chrome trims and 19” Verona alloy wheels. The interior is fitted with R-Line trim on the Nappa carbon-style black leather seats, steering wheel and aluminium sports pedals.

Inspired by performance-oriented Volkswagen R models, the R-Line range was created to offer drivers a way to express their individuality and make a statement, while getting great value. Powering the Passat R-Line is a new 2.0L TSI turbocharged engine that produces 190 PS and 320 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a new and improved 7-speed wet clutch direct shift gearbox (DSG) for an exhilarating driving experience.

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has launched the all-new Tiguan Allspace SUV. The Tiguan Allspace is available in two variants i.e. Highline 1.4TSI and R-Line 2.0TSI; both locally assembled in Pekan, Pahang.

The Allspace moniker refers to the extended wheelbase version of the Tiguan, with an additional two seats, making it a 5+2 seater. This allows for greater flexibility in seating and carrying configuration, but also bumps up the dimensions, mainly in overall length and wheelbase. With the third row seats folded, available boot space is 700 litres. Fold the second and third row seats down and you have 1,775 litres of cargo space, the best in its segment.

Differences Between Allspace Highline And R-Line

The Tiguan Allspace Highline is priced at RM169,990 while the Allspace R-Line carries a RM213,490 price tag. However, seeing that these are locally assembled and there is a sales tax exemption currently, both variants have a current retail price of RM164,430.75 and RM208,553.79 respectively, until 31 December 2020.

Engine And Performance

The Allspace Highline sports a 1.4L TSI turbocharged direct injection engine with a 6-speed wet clutch direct shift gearbox (DSG). This is capable of an output of 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, official average fuel consumption stands at approximately 7.3l/100km.

On the other hand, the Allspace R-Line has a livelier engine. The 2.0L TSI turbocharged direct injection engine and 7-speed wet clutch direct shift gearbox (DSG) give out an output of 220 PS and 350 Nm of torque. These are the highest performance figures in its segment.

Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace R-Line_4MOTION_Tail LightAdditionally, the Allspace R-Line is fitted with 4MOTION, an all-wheel-drive system that is also found in the Golf R. 4MOTION is a system which aids traction, acceleration, grip and off-road abilities. The all-wheel-drive system distributes power between the four wheels when and where it is needed. This works hand-in-hand with other active safety systems such as Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) and Hill Descent Control (HDC).

Safety

Key safety features of the Allspace Highline include six airbags, ESP, ABS, Brake Assist (BA), Multi-collision brakes, Intelligent Crash Response System (ICRS), Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) as well as hill-hold control.

While the Allspace R-Line adds on Hill Descent Control (HDC) for better off-road control when set in Off-Road mode. The feature is part of the 4MOTION system and applies the brakes and accelerator when and where needed to keep the vehicle moving at a controlled and stable speed downhill.

Exterior

On the outside, the Allspace Highline has full LED headlamps and taillights, front and rear fog lights, and 18” Kingston alloy wheels.

The Allspace R-Line adds to that a sporty R-Line kit consisting of front and rear bumpers, design strips on the front side panels, dual tipped tailpipes and a rear spoiler. The tail lights feature triangle motifs. The overall look is finished off with 19” Sebring alloy wheels.

Interior

The Allspace Highline comes with ‘Vienna’ leather seat upholstery, 12-way electric driver seat and “Climatronic” air-conditioning system with 3-zone temperature control. There is also ambient lighting to change up the cabin ambience. The leather multi-function steering wheels with paddle shifters and cruise control makes for convenient driving.

On top of the 12-way electric R-Line sports front seats in ‘Vienna’ leather, the interior also features other R-Line branded items like the steering wheel, stainless aluminium sports pedals, front and rear aluminium scuff plates, ‘Dark Grid’ decorative inserts and a black headliner.

Connectivity

A sizable 11.7” Digital Cockpit with high-resolution display colour thin-film transistor (TFT) in the Allspace Highline incorporates functions and features in 2D and 3D graphic display for navigation and media. Further, a six-view customizable screen offers a new level of personalisation with over 30 combination options.

Other features include a wide range of connectivity options through an 8” Composition Media touchscreen head unit which supports the rear-view camera and complete car menu and infotainment system.

Scania P410 rigid type_Services Director, Scania Southeast Asia, Thor Brenden_Director,Curio Pack, Ngiam Chong LeeIntegrated logistics solutions company, Curio Pack Sdn Bhd, recently took delivery of a new Scania truck with integrated crane. The truck is from the Scania New Truck Generation – a P410B8x4NZ rigid type. It has two steering axles and two driven axles. The key to the P-series truck was handed over by Thor Brenden, Services Director of Scania Southeast Asia to Ngiam Chong Lee, Director of Curio Pack at Scania Malaysia’s Bukit Jelutong headquarters.

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has officially launched the all-new VW Arteon R-Line. The five-door flagship fastback is locally assembled at the Volkswagen plant in Pekan, Pahang.

Volkswagen Arteon R-Line_RearOffering a combination of avantgarde design with dynamic handling, its name comes from ‘Art’, reflecting the fastback’s harmonious lines and emotionality, while ‘eon’ identifies it as a premium Volkswagen model.

The Volkswagen R-Line variants take inspiration from the performance R range. The R-Line range features a sporty styling package fitted onto the vehicle to give it an overall sportier look while maintaining great value.

The Arteon R-Line sports an aggressive chrome front grille with R-Line badge, LED headlights and taillights, a black rear spoiler, 19” Montevideo alloy wheels, and lower chrome trimmings.

It is capable of an output of 190 PS and 320 Nm of torque. Driving characteristics can be customised with the Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) which offers up to 15 selectable driving preferences and five different drive modes i.e. Eco, Comfort, Normal, Sport and Individual.

The long wheelbase of this fastback provides for a generous interior with plenty of headroom and legroom at all five seat positions. The front passengers get a 14-way ErgoComfort seats in Nappa leather decked in R-Line badging, while the driver enjoys the addition of a massage function. Adding to the luxurious ambience are Silver Rise aluminium inserts, Titanium Black headliner, an analog clock and 3-color ambient lighting.

For audiophiles, the Arteon is fitted with a Dynaudio premium sound system with 11 speakers, 16 channel digital amplifier, a subwoofer and 700W of sound luxury.

For the driver, there is a high resolution 11.7” Digital Cockpit that accesses driving data with six customizable screen views and over 30 combination options, including 2D and 3D navigation and a full 100% map view.

As for safety features, the Arteon R-Line is packed with premium world-class features such as Post Collision Braking System that prevents a second collision; Intelligent Crash Response System (ICRS) that takes preventive measures during a collision by cutting the fuel supply, unlocking the door and turning on the hazard lights; and Electronic Different Lock (XDS) that improves traction and reduce understeer.

Other standard safety features are Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Brake Assist (BA), Hill-hold Control, Proactive Passenger Protection System and Active Bonnet for pedestrian protection. The Arteon also comes with Area View 360° camera for a bird’s eye view of the car’s surroundings. This screen is customizable and available in full or split views.
