McLaren Kuala Lumpur has introduced the new McLaren Artura Spider, an open-top variant of the Artura supercar, now available at RM3,400,000 (price includes duties but not options). This new model retains McLaren’s high-performance hybrid powertrain, now enhanced for greater power, performance, and driver engagement. The Artura Spider, along with the updated Artura Coupe, promises an exhilarating driving experience while accommodating everyday driving needs, including an electric mode for quieter urban driving.

The Artura Spider is McLaren’s first convertible, and is a plug-in hybrid to boot. The car features a retractable hard-top that operates in just 11 seconds, offering both an open-air experience and supercar performance. The Artura Spider’s lightweight construction is central to its performance, with a dry weight of just 1,457 kg, only 62 kg heavier than the coupe, making it one of the lightest convertibles in its class.

Powering the Artura Spider is a recalibrated high-performance hybrid powertrain with a 3.0L twin turbo V6 M630 engine which has been optimised to deliver 700 PS (515 kW) @ 7,500 rpm, with power focused between 4,000 to 8,500 rpm. The engine is compact and lightweight to aid in the car’s handling and agility and provides 585 Nm of torque @ 2,250 – 7,000 rpm. It also features a redesigned exhaust system that provides a cleaner sound throughout the rev range, with an optional sports exhaust for an even more engaging driving experience.

The electric portion of the Artura Spider’s hybrid powertrain is an axial flux electric motor that generates 95 PS (70 kW) and 225 Nm of torque. Powered by a 7.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the Artura Spider is capable of providing an electric-only range of up to 33 km. The hybrid system adds just 130 kg to the overall weight, enabling the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.0 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 8.4 seconds, and 0-300 km/h in 21.6 seconds; top speed maxes out at 330 km/h.

The car’s dynamic performance is enhanced by new powertrain mounts to improve stability, steering feel, and overall vehicle agility. The Artura Spider’s rear suspension has also been optimised for precision and stability, reducing understeer and improving handling. The car’s rear suspension concept combines with a bespoke version of McLaren’s Proactive Damping Control system, supplied by Official Intelligent Suspension Partner, Monroe, with revised damper valving for greater responsiveness, and 3 dynamic handling modes i.e. Comfort, Sport, and Track.

The car’s dynamic precision is aided by Pirelli Cyber Tyre technology which provides real-time data on tyre performance, allowing drivers to adjust tyre pressure limits for optimal performance. Furthermore, Pirelli’s Noise Cancelling System (PNCS) uses a sound absorbing device on the inside of the tyre wall to reduce vibration and noise from the P Zero tyres. Additionally, the car’s braking system, featuring carbon ceramic discs, lightweight aluminum calipers, and new brake cooling ducts, has also been enhanced for improved braking power and stability, particularly at high speeds, while lengthening the lifespan of the discs and pads.

The Artura Spider’s 8-speed close-ratio transmission has been refined for faster gear changes (by 25%), with an electronically controlled differential providing variable differential preload for better stability and agility. The car offers 4 powertrain modes i.e. Comfort, Sport, Track, and electric-only E-mode, with the latter being the default start mode.

The design of the Artura Spider remains distinct despite the integration of a Retractable Hard Top and changes to the bodywork to accommodate this feature. The roof is made of carbon fiber and composite materials, with an option for an Electrochromic glass panel that can block sunlight at the touch of a button. All-new buttresses, which incorporate the rollover structure, include a glazed section to aid rear visibility that also doubles as a channel for airflow into the engine bay area. The RHT system is operated by 8 electric motors and can be controlled from inside the cabin or via the vehicle key when the car is stationary.

The Artura Spider also debuts a new aerothermal cooling system to cool the powertrain, that also enables the packaging of the RHT and reduces air buffeting for Spider occupants. The new aerothermal concept features 4 separate ducting systems and is distinguished from the coupe by the 2 rear deck inlets situated on the outer sections of the one-piece Aluminium Hot-Formed upper rear bodywork. These contain both cooling inlets for the powertrain and RHT storage area as well an outlet for hot air. In order to accomodate the RHT mechanism and tonneau cover, the powertrain cooling vents, including the ‘hot vee’ chimney, had to be situated further to the rear of the car compared to the coupe.

Inside, the Artura Spider retains the driver-focused design of the coupe, with a clean steering wheel and a driver display binnacle that moves with the steering column for optimal ergonomics. The car features McLaren’s infotainment and connectivity system (MIS II) with familiar apps such as the Variable Drift Control, as well as ADAS features, including Lane Departure Warning and Road Sign Recognition. Options for the system include wireless charging, and Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Switchable Follow Mode, Auto High-Beam Assist, Blindspot Monitoring and Rear Cross-Traffic Detection.

The innovative McLaren Clubsport seat is fitted as standard in most markets. Adjusting through an elliptical arc to combine the range of motion expected of a moveable backrest, with the light weight and close support of a bucket seat. Adjustable lumbar support can also be specified as an additional feature. Those wanting a more traditional but still appropriately sporting seat can order the electrically adjustable, heated comfort seats with memory. The Artura also features a Bluetooth low-energy vehicle key which detects when the driver is heading towards the vehicle and powers up systems to welcome occupants.

The car also offers a range of customisation options, including different interior specifications, wheel designs, and carbon fiber components. The Silver badging is now a no-cost option, with new Stealth badging, which incorporates black badges front and rear as well as a black McLaren Speedmark on the wheel centre caps, being standard fit. In addition to the standard interior, there are 3 oher interior specifications i.e. Performance, which has a more sporting aesthetic; TechLux, which focuses on technical luxury as the name suggests; and Vision, which displays a more avant-garde and adventurous look and feel.

There is also an extended palette of exterior paints, some of which are available on the Artura for the first time, is introduced for the new Spider – 20 Elite colours are offered in addition to the standard 5 colours, with a further 18 MSO colours also available.

Every new Artura comes as standard with a 5-year, unlimited mileage vehicle warranty; a 6-year, 75,000 km battery warranty and a 10-year anti-perforation body warranty. Scania has launched its latest innovations in the commercial vehicle sector i.e. the new Super truck series as well as its New Bus Generation (NBG) platform. These vehicles offer significant improvements in fuel economy, with the Super truck achieving up to 8% better fuel efficiency and the NBG up to 9%. Both the Super and NBG are FAME-prepared (Fatty Acid Methyl Esters a.k.a. biodiesel) up to B100, and could enable a reduction in CO2 emissions by up to 80% to support customers’ ESG goals.

The Scania Super truck features an advanced and efficient combustion-engine powertrain which offers customers notable fuel savings. With a robust design that extends operational life by 30%. the truck’s 13L engine is capable of delivering up to 550 hp. The Super truck also has industry-leading brake thermal efficiency of 50%, which is exceptional in the heavy truck industry. Designed with Scania’s low-rev concept in mind, the truck also provides a smoother drive with peak engine torque available from jut 900 rpm. The Opticruise gearbox also offers faster, smoother gear changes, with a wider gear spread, as well as improved driver comfort and control. Safety features have also been upgraded, with the inclusion of side curtain airbags and steering wheel airbag, and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake System (EBS), and Traction Control (TC). Driver comfort is further enhanced by a new suspension seat with dual armrests.

Meanwhile, buyers of the Scania New Bus Generation can get up to 9% fuel savings without compromising performance, thanks to enhanced engine efficiency and improved cruise control with active prediction. smart #1 Brabus has a 66 kWh battery that can 22 kW AC charging capability. At that rate, it takes about 3 hours to get from 10% to 80% state-of-charge (SoC). With 150 kW DC charging however, that time is reduced to 29 minutes. The dual motor setup of the #1 Brabus offers 315 kW (422 hp) and 543 Nm, and enables it to do the century sprint in 3.9 seconds (official time). PROTON has officially launched the upgraded and updated Proton X70 which will be sold as a 2025 model.

The refreshed exterior design features a front-end that is practically all-new, with new 47-LED headlights, daytime running lights, bonnet, fender, bumper and a grille that resembles the larger X90. The rear bumper has also received some updates, though the rear LED tail lights remain the same.

Inside the cabin, the 2025 Proton X70 has been upgraded with luxurious Nappa leather seats in a stone grey colour (Premium variants), a new steering wheel as well as new meter display. Steering mode selection for the steering wheel, drive modes, cruise control, speed limiter, remote engine start, walk-away auto locking, dual zone air-conditioning all come as standard for all variants. In the Premium and Premium X, these are complemented by a multi-colour rhythmic ambient lighting system in an upgraded dashboard to enhance the overall in-car atmosphere with lighting that syncs with music.

A feature that some may or may not be looking forward to in the new 12.3″ infotainment head unit (IHU) is the availability of wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The infotainment unit is ready though it will only come online at a later date. The IHU comes with voice command, online navigation, music streaming, and weather forecast for all 4 variants. Additionally, the PROTON Link app offers all variants expanded functionality including remote engine start to cool down the vehicle before you step inside. Performance has also been enhanced with the 1.5L TGDi 3-cylinder turbocharged engine and 7-speed DCT (dual clutch transmission). The powertrain still produces 177 PS (130 kW) @ 5,500 rpm and 255 Nm @ 1,500 – 4,000 rpm but has been optimised to provide even better drivability and fuel efficiency via improved combustion efficiency, improved thermal management, and friction reduction. Low speed NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) is also an area that’s been improved to enhance cabin comfort.

The Chery Omoda 5 has earned a 5-star rating in the ASEAN New Car Assessment Programme (ASEAN NCAP) safety evaluation, marking a significant milestone for Chery Malaysia.   • Frontal Impact Test: The Omoda 5 passed the frontal collision test, demonstrating effective protection for the driver, front passenger, and child occupants in the event of a crash. This is performed with the vehicle hitting a barrier at 64 km/h with a partial front impact.   • Side Impact Test: In the side impact test, the vehicle showed strong protection for both the driver and child passengers during a side collision. In this test, a moving barrier hits the side of the vehicle at 50 km/h. A dummy representing an adult driver is placed in the front seat, while 2 child dummies i.e. a 3-year-old and a 1.5-year-old, are seated in the rear.
  • Pedestrian Protection Test: The vehicle also performed well in the pedestrian protection test, which is a critical aspect of the ASEAN NCAP evaluation.

To add to this, the rear sub-frame is also a critical part of the vehicle to absorb impact forces. And they seemed to have performed to expectations. Having already earned 5-star ratings from both Euro NCAP and Australia’s ANCAP, the Omoda 5’s latest achievement adds to its safety credentials.
