LOKATECH Engineering Sdn Bhd and EFKON Asia, the Austrian technology provider of the Infrared Toll Collection System (or what most people know as the Smart TAG toll system) has launched LokaTAG, the first aftermarket built-in toll reader for vehicles in Malaysia.

LokaTAG gives you the option to directly connect the toll reader to the vehicle’s battery making it more integrated and seamless, without the need to deal with 9V battery replacements. The LokaTAG features a long-lasting backlit display with low credit and card error alerts, and is compatible with all types of vehicles. This is the same type of toll reader offered by Perodua and Toyota.

LokaTAG_Built-in Electronic Toll Reader_Car_MalaysiaAccording to Helmuth Blasch, director of EFKON Asia, demand for electronic toll readers is still strong, bolstered by orders from car manufacturers in Malaysia for the built-in units. This shows that the general motoring public still prefers the current infrared system for its reliability and efficiency.

“Market response to the portable MaxTAG has been excellent with average monthly sales of about 12,000 units. As for our built-in toll readers, we currently have five major car brands featuring our customised products with more coming on board soon. The combined total monthly sales of the portable and built-in units are about 25,000 units,” said Blasch.
