The Infiniti Q60

Infiniti Malaysia has revealed the all-new Infiniti Q60 sports coupe. Fully imported from Japan, the Q60 is available as a single turbocharged 2-liter variant, priced at RM 308,800 (on the road without insurance) with a 7-year unlimited mileage warranty.

Infiniti Q60 Media Drive Ipoh 2017Inspired by Infiniti’s previous sports coupes, G35 and G37, the new Q60 carries the same design principles of blending engaging dynamics with eye-catching looks, to give it flowing athletic lines and muscular proportions. The lines are very dramatic and befitting of a sports coupe. And as a sports coupe, aerodynamics is a priority; the hood is shaped to reduce drag and the vents in the front fenders direct air out from the engine bay. These help bring its drag coefficient to 0.29.

The Q60 features unique design cues such as the”double arch” grille which is a reflection of each other, as well as the crescent-cut C-pillar. Further, it’s LED headlamps with light guide technology is modeled after the shape of the human eye to give the car a ‘face’. The minor protrusion on the upper arch grille relates to the Infiniti badge and signifies the company’s philosophy of taking ideas beyond the horizon, in other words, towards infinity. At the back, the trunk lid comes with an integrated duck tail spoiler and is a world’s-first application of combining a resin skin with a steel frame. We don’t have the official boot volume but it easily swallows 4 overnight bags; the downside is the lift-over which is on the high side.

Infiniti Q60 Dual Touchscreen Displays, Malaysia 2017Inside the Q60, the dashboard houses 2 touchscreens (an 8” upper and 7” lower) as part of the Infiniti InTouch central control system, which keeps physical buttons to a minimum. This system allows you to personalize the interior environment accordingly (with more than 200 settings e.g. engine and steering modes, seat positions, audio and navigation settings, etc) and can store profiles of multiple drivers who are identified by their I-key (intelligent key).

The rest of the cabin is dressed with brushed aluminum trim and LED ambient lighting. Interior noise and vibration insulation has been improved with better suspension insulation, stiffer cross-members as well as wheel spokes which are designed to dampen vibrations (the wheels are 19″ alloys with run-flat tires). Active Noise Cancellation is also standard in the Q60 as is an acoustic windshield, all for a more pleasant drive experience.

Also fitted is a new 13-speaker Bose Performance Series sound system which has been customized for the Q60’s cabin.

Infiniti Q60 Front Seats Malaysia 2017The Q60 seats are designed with Infiniti’s hallmark spinal support which match the curvature of the spine to provide support and minimize pressure on the upper and lower back muscles. The result is a more even alignment between the chest and pelvis and better weight distribution. Quite noticeable (and appreciated) is the shoulder support of the front seats.

On safety, the Q60 has 6 airbags as well as a pop-up engine hood for pedestrian collision safety. Also notable are the Advanced Vehicle Dynamic Control with Traction Control, and Active Trace Control which adjusts the brakes and torque when cornering.

The Q60 available here is fitted with the 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine sourced from premium carmaker Mercedes-Benz. This engine produces 211 hp and 350 Nm of torque to power the Q60 from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds (topping out at 235 km/h). Sending this power to the rear wheels is a 7-speed automatic gearbox.

Infiniti Q60 Gear Lever, Malaysia Launch 2017The gearbox comes with Adaptive Shift Control (ASC) which uses a lateral acceleration sensor to detect topographical changes in the road e.g. hilly terrain, corners, etc, and adapts the gear selection accordingly. The ASC also monitors your driving style and adapts to it. In manual shift mode, the Downshift Rev Matching feature blips the throttle to allow for smoother shifting.

Additionally, the Drive Mode Selector (DMS), accessed via the 8″ touchscreen, gives you 4 modes – Standard, Snow, Sport and Personal.  Sport mode holds on to the gears a little longer and works with the Active Sound Enhancement to give a punchier exhaust note.

Body color choices are Majestic White, Graphite Shadow, Midnight Black, Iridium Blue, and the new Dynamic Sunstone Red.
