2023 Toyota GR Supra Now Available In Malaysia; In Manual And Auto
Toyota’s image as an exciting car brand is not only bolstered by its involvement in motorsport, but also its performance oriented models. At the launch of the latest season of Toyota GAZOO Racing Festival last week, UMW Toyota Motor also launched the 2023 Toyota GR Supra.
The Supra is the car that started the GR range of performance models when it was launched in 2019, and partly responsible for reinvigorating the Toyota brand’s sporty image.
For the 2023 model year, the GR Supra coupe comes with both the manual and automatic gearbox options. To please the diehard enthusiasts, the manual transmission is supposed to provide an even more engaging driving experience. The 6-speed manual gearbox has been specifically developed to match the performance characteristics of the 3.0L B58 straight-6 24-valve engine with a twin-scroll turbocharger. The 6-MT is Toyota’s Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) unit which is able to match engine speeds when shifting gears for smoother acceleration. Meanwhile, the auto is an 8-speed gearbox.
The Supra’s powertrain is capable of sending 388 PS @ 5,800 – 6,500 rpm and 500 Nm of torque @ 1,800 – 5,000 rpm to the rear wheels. Official 0 – 100 km/h acceleration times are 4.4 seconds for the manual, and 4.1 seconds for the auto. Top speed has been electronically limited to 250 km/h. The 19″ forged alloy wheels wear staggered sized tyres i.e. 255/35 in front and 275/35 in the rear.
Further, Toyota GR engineers have also refined the steering and suspension characteristics by modifying the stabiliser bushings and retuning the adaptive variable suspension. The chassis control systems have also been recalibrated to improve handling performance and ride comfort. Besides having a 50:50 weight distribution, the GR Supra’s driving dynamics are enhanced with Adaptive Variable Suspension and Electronically Controlled Limited Slip Differential. You can also further customise some of the settings to extend the performance envelope of the sports car and reduce the intervention of electronic aids.
Safety tech in the Supra is a given to enable drivers to take the car to its limits in a safer manner. The technologies include a variety of active systems which work together to assist the driver when necessary such as autonomous emergency braking and lane keeping assist. While cruise control is present in the manual transmission variant, the automatic variant adds the adaptive capability. Other features include a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, Intelligent Parking Sensor with Emergency Braking Function and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
Inside, the GR Supra is relatively unchanged from the 2020 update. Standard features include leather upholstery in black, head-up display, 8.8″ infotainment touchscreen, electrically-adjustable sports seats, dual zone climate control, electrochromatic rearview mirror, 12-speaker JBL audio system, and reverse camera.
The Toyota GR Supra is priced at RM645,000 (manual) and RM655,000 (auto) and is available at authorised Toyota GR Garages. These prices are on the road without insurance. There are 8 exterior colours available i.e. Prominence Red, Lighting Yellow, White Metallic, Black Metallic, Dawn Blue Metallic, Volcanic Ash Grey Metallic, Matte Avalanche White Metallic and Matte Storm Grey Metallic.
