Toyota Is No. 1 Again In Malaysia; To Continue Sustainable Mobility Effort

Toyota Vios GR-S_DRL_Fog LightToyota is starting 2022 on a happy note. According to UMW Toyota Motor, the sales performance for 2021 enabled the Toyota brand to once again hold the No. 1 position in the non-national segment after 6 years. In January 2022, the combined Toyota and Lexus sales amounted to 7,528 vehicles, which represents a marked increase of 96% compared to the same period last year (3,845).

The Toyota Hilux pick-up was the best-selling model, accounting for 38% of January’s sales, while the Vios was the best-selling car, making up 28% of the month’s sales.

Moving forward, the company will continue to promote its sustainable mobility effort in line with Toyota’s global agenda to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. This effort was officially kickstarted with the Corolla Cross Hybrid launched last month. This also marked an incredible milestone for UMW Toyota Motor as it is the first locally assembled hybrid vehicle with the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform.

“Since it was made available for booking in October last year, the Corolla Cross Hybrid was met with positive response, accounting for more than 40% of the total sales of the Corolla Cross. This shows that Malaysians are in support of environmental sustainability and are taking their first step towards going green through hybrid electric vehicles. We urge our customers to place their bookings early in order to avoid missing out on the Sales and Service Tax (SST) exemption for better savings,” said Ravindran K, President of UMW Toyota Motor.Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid_Graphic

The Corolla Cross Hybrid is priced at RM136,550 (without insurance) and is covered with a 5-year, unlimited mileage factory warranty on top of a separate 8-year, unlimited mileage warranty on the hybrid battery pack, inverter and Power Management Control Unit. There is also the option to extend the latter warranty for another 2 years to make it an even 10, the first of such warranty available locally. The hybrid system comes with the 4th generation Toyota Hybrid Electric System battery that is designed to last the vehicle’s life and satisfy 5 critical parameters i.e. safety, long life service, high level of quality, affordable high quality products and high level performance.

To continue its positive sales momentum, UMW Toyota Motor is running the ‘Stay Ahead’ campaign which offers savings of up to RM4,500. This promotion features the Malaysian-favourite model, Vios, at installments from RM540, with RM2,216 sales tax savings. The Yaris hatchback also benefits from RM2,192 sales tax savings, and is available at installments from RM493.

This has greatly helped automotive players like us to recover from the impact of the pandemic during the last two years. We also encourage Toyota fans to take advantage of the extended tax exemption to purchase their dream car, coupled with the value for money deals UMW Toyota Motor is offering such as the ongoing Stay Ahead sales campaign to enjoy the best savings during this period,” said Ravindran K.

Besides focusing on sales performance, UMW Toyota Motor is also giving back to the community. In January, the company partnered with Yayasan Raja Muda Selangor to extend assistance to Malaysians affected by the flood. Through its ‘Back On Your Feet’ Programme, the company contributed RM10,000 to Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Lui for repairs of its partially damaged premise. UMW Toyota Motor also donated essential home appliances such as rice cookers, kettles and gas stoves to the affected community in Sungai Lui.

“UMW Toyota Motor endeavours to propel society forward by empowering people beyond the road. We are glad to have been given the opportunity to partner with Yayasan Raja Muda Selangor to give back to the community we operate in and help them get back on their feet during these trying times,” added Ravindran.
