Petron Malaysia Is Serious About Cleanliness

When it comes to fuel or service stations, what comes to mind is usually the fuel products or the convenience stores. But the toilet is actually one of the most important features of a service station (the most important, when you have an emergency). As such, Petron Malaysia, had in 2018, initiated the “Tandas Kita Bersih” programme with the aim to provide the comfort of clean toilets to customers.

Petron’s “Tandas Kita Bersih” is an effort to provide a comfortable station environment to get road users to “Jom Singgah Petron”. As a result of this initiative, 113 Petron service stations in 8 states (Johor, Kedah, Pahang, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Terengganu and Wilayah Persekutuan) have received 5-star ratings from local councils for maintaining clean and functional toilets.

Our customers’ needs and expectations are important to us and we want them to have a positive experience each time they visit a Petron service station. Our goal is to make our stations the preferred pit-stop for everyone,” said Choong Kum Choy, Petron Head of Retail & Commercial Business.

The “Tandas Kita Bersih” programme has since evolved from a marketing campaign to becoming a full-fledged system that sets the standards and guidelines for all Petron stations. The programme was developed in consultation with the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), and continues under its “Fuel Happy” programme to ensure all its service stations are clean, dry, and operational.Petron_Fuel Pump_Treats Convenience Store_Toilet

Petron’s clean toilet programme has proven to be successful, with Petron service stations actively participating in the national-level competition for clean toilets under KPKT. Over the years, multiple service stations including Petron Batu Burok, Terengganu; Petron Tongkang Pecah, Johor; and Petron Senawang 2, Negeri Sembilan have won 1st place in the National Best Toilet Award under the Service Station category.

Mokhtar Paunari, the dealer of Petron Senawang 2, whose station won 1st place in the 2019 National Clean Public Toilet Competition – Service Station Category commented, “Commitment, teamwork, and consistency are the key factors in ensuring that our toilet achieves the standard of ‘model toilet’ for petrol stations in the country.”

For Azmin bin Che Mat, dealer of Petron Rantau Panjang, winning 3rd place for the best public toilet in the Kelantan state competition is a great achievement. “I want to offer the best service to our customers, and I want our customers to feel comfortable when they are here to use the services we offer.” Going the extra mile for his customers, Azmin appointed a dedicated janitor to maintain the cleanliness of the restrooms.

The “Tandas Kita Bersih” programme also supports Petron’s sustainability aspiration of promoting a culture of good sanitation at all Petron service stations. This is in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, which ensures access to clean water and good sanitation for all.

Choong added, “We applaud our dealers for stepping up to the challenge to achieve and maintain the highest standards of service for our customers. Having clean toilets shows that we care about every aspect of our customers’ experience at our stations.”
