Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4MATIC+ Joins Local Dream Cars Collection

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has added the facelifted Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4MATIC+ to the local line-up of its Dream Cars Collection.

The headlamps for the newly introduced model are the faclift LED units which flank an AMG vertical bar grille. A deep front apron with large air intakes give the car a more aggressive look. Meanwhile, the rear has been reshaped and with the new-style horizontally oriented LED tail lamps. Further, the flared side sills, twin power domes on the hood, a reshaped rear apron with diffuser, and 20″ 5-twin-spoke light alloy wheels round off its athletic prowess. The E 63 S 4MATIC+ also wears AMG Night Package trim.

The AMG Night Package includes exterior mirror housings, window frames, trim insert in the longitudinal members and front and rear apron trim elements in high-gloss black. Meanwhile, the tailpipe trim elements are in black chrome. The AMG-specific radiator grille is also available in a darkened design. Exclusively for the 63-series models, the AMG Exterior Carbon-Fibre Package I comprises a front splitter, trim insert in the longitudinal member and carbon fibre trim element in the rear apron.

Providing the excitement is an AMG 4.0L V8 biturbo engine which produces 612 hp and 850 Nm, with maximum power coming in from 2,500 rpm. This potential enables the Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4MATIC+ to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds.

The 2 exhaust gas turbochargers are twin scroll and ensure optimum engine output and response by reducing the exhaust gas backpressure and optimising the gas cycle. When you select “Comfort” mode, the cylinder deactivation system is available from a lower engine speed range i.e. from 1,000 to 3,250 rpm. A special display in the instrument cluster indicates whether the cylinder deactivation system is in use and whether the engine is presently operating in 4 or 8-cylinder mode. The transition between the 2 operating states is unnoticeable as it is immediate, fast and torque-neutral.

The V8 engine is paired with an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9-speed transmission which is tuned for extremely short shift times and fast multiple downshifts. A wet multi-plate start-off clutch has replaced the torque converter to save on weight and optimise response.

Additionally, the Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4MATIC+ is fitted with the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel
drive system. This intelligent system features torque distribution on the front and rear axles, which is fully variable for the first time, to ensure optimum traction on any surface.

And with Drift Mode engaged, it is still possible to lose some traction to drift thanks to the fully variable torque distribution. This mode is activated via “RACE” mode using the shift paddles, with ESP deactivated and transmission in manual mode, and sets the car as a purely rear-wheel drive vehicle.

There is also an electronically regulated rear axle-locking differential for improved traction and driving dynamics. This reduces the slip on the inside wheel when cornering, without any control intervention from the braking system. As such, you are able to accelerate earlier out of a bend without compromising car stability.

With the DYNAMIC SELECT drive programme which has 6 options available (Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Individual and Race), you are able to further customise the driving characteristics. The modes modify key parameters such as the response of the engine, transmission, suspension and steering. Besides this, you can also go into manual mode by manipulating the paddle shifters.

Further, the car is fitted with dynamic engine mounts that adapt for comfort or dynamic driving. The dynamic mounts are quickly and variably able to adapt their stiffness to the driving conditions and requirements.

The interior of the E 63 S 4MATIC+ combines high-quality materials with the characteristic AMG performance. The AMG seats are upholstered in Black / Titanium Grey Pearl nappa leather, and provide secure lateral support with high comfort on long journeys. Like the seats, the interior also adds contrasting yellow stitching for a sporty vibe. Additionally, the trim for the dashboard and beltlines as well as seat belts come in Crystal Grey.

The AMG Performance twin-spoke steering wheel is wrapped in a combination of leather and DINAMICA microfibre. The electromechanical speed-sensitive power steering has a variable ratio which reduces servo assistance at high speeds, and continuously increases it at lower speeds. Steering assistance is varied according to the AMG DYNAMICS system and will adjust the amount of steering feedback to the driver accordingly.

Moreover, within the steering wheel rim is a sensor mat to detect the driver’s hand contact. Should you not have your hands on the steering wheel for an amount of time, the car will send an alert and also activates Emergency Brake Assist if it continues to not detect any change in hand contact.

For further assistance and convenience, the “Hey Mercedes” with enhanced MBUX interface comes standard with the car. Using artificial intelligence, MBUX recognises and understands nearly all sentences from the fields of infotainment and vehicle operation, even if expressed indirectly. As a further new feature, it is possible to have the weather forecast for specific regions read out – in virtually all languages.

Another highlight of the widescreen MBUX infotainment system is the AMG-specific displays and settings. Via the AMG menu, you can call up special AMG displays such as Engine Data, Gear Speed Indicator, Warm-up, Set-Up, G-Meter and Race Timer.

The E 63 S 4MATIC+ has a recommended retail price of RM1,118,888 (on the road without insurance).
