Volkswagen And Tarik Jeans Collaborate On Modern Nostalgia Collection For A Noble Cause

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) and local denim streetwear brand Tarik Jeans, has once again collaborated to launch their second instalment of their Modern Nostalgia collection. The exclusively designed capsule collection, “Modern Nostalgia pt.2”, also has the same objective as the first collab from earlier in February i.e. to raise funds and awareness for the endangered Malayan Tapir.

While the first “Modern Nostalgia” featured Volkswagen models combined with Tarik’s local vintage design elements, Part 2 is more premium and draws inspiration from the raw, rugged and hands-on workshop life.

The new designs shift gears to capture Volkswagen’s racing heritage and spirit while incorporating performance-themed colours that motorheads and car enthusiasts will approve. The “Modern Nostalgia pt. 2” collection features a variety of high-quality apparel such as denim jackets (RM259), work shirts (RM159) and t-shirts (RM79).

Erik Winter, Managing Director of VPCM, said that sustainability and conservation is a key pillar for Volkswagen, with the brand already investing heavily in reforestation projects around the world. “VPCM is proud to be able to play a part in Malaysia to make a difference, and while the COVID-19 outbreak had unfortunately affected the timeline of the campaign, we remain committed to the project. Together with our friends at Tarik Jeans, I firmly believe in the success of this campaign, and I would like to urge fans of the Volkswagen and Tarik brands to make that purchase for a good cause.”

Meanwhile, Afiq Iskandar, Founder and CEO of Tarik Jeans, said “Cross-industry collaborations such as this one shows the synergy and symbiotic relationship when both nature and technology come together and take the forefront. We express our gratitude again to Volkswagen Malaysia for joining us and for creating  awareness, raising funds and paying homage to the Malayan Tapir that has been a core graphic since the inception of the Tarik Jeans brand”.

Merchandise from the complete “Modern Nostalgia” collection can be purchased from Tarik Jeans’ website, Shopee and Zalora. Half of all proceeds generated from the sales of this campaign will be donated to the Kenaboi Forest Reserve in Negeri Sembilan on World Tapir Day (27 April 2021).

The Malayan tapir (or tenuk) is the only species in Asia and is native to the island of Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia and Southern Thailand. It has a distinctive coat pattern and a lifespan of up to 30 years. However, agricultural developments and deforestation, as well as hunting for food and sport and illegal animal trafficking have resulted in an alarming decrease in their numbers. It is estimated that there are only less than 3,000 of them left.
