The Improved Volkswagen Golf Is Here

The improved Volkswagen Golf has been unveiled by Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) with a choice of four variants – Golf TSI Sportline (RM155,990) and R-Line (RM169,990); Golf GTI (RM239,990); and Golf R (RM295,990).

The fully imported new Golf family comes with updated looks with new bumper, headlights, tail lights and trim.

Both variants of the Golf TSI are powered by a 1.4L TSI turbocharged engine with 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque going to the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG dual clutch gearbox. The R-Line has LED headlights with static and dynamic cornering lights, 17″ ‘Singapore’ alloy wheels, ‘Vienna’ leather seats with R-Line logo, 12.3″ Active Info Display, and 8″ Composition Media touchscreen with App-Connect (Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink). The Sportline is the base model and uses halogen headlights with LED daytime running lights. It also has smaller 16″ ‘Hita’ alloy wheels. The other major differences are the use of analog metres instead of a digital display, “Zoom” fabric seats, and the exclusion of the ‘KESSY’ keyless system.

The Golf TSI Sportline gets five colour choices: Atlantic Blue, Pure White, Deep Black, Tungsten Silver and Iridium Grey. The TSI R-Line adds Turmeric Yellow to those choices.

For the Golf GTI, its 230 PS and 350 Nm comes courtesy of a new 2.0L TSI engine through a 6-speed wet clutch DSG. Official 0 – 100 km/h time is 6.4 seconds. It also uses the LED headlights with dynamic cornering lights (trimmed with the signature red band) as well as LED tail lights with dynamic indicators, 18″ ‘Milton Keynes’ alloy wheels, 12.3″ Active Info Display, 8″ Discover Media with App-Connect. It also has dual exhaust system and Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC) with five settings : Eco, Comfort, Normal, Sport, and Individual.

There are five colour choices for the GTI: Pure White, Deep Black, Dark Iron Blue, Tornado Red and Iridium Grey.

The range-topping Golf R is a performance powerhouse with an uprated 2.0L TSI engine producing 290 PS and 380 Nm. The power is transferred by a 7-speed wet clutch DSG to the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system that turn the 19″ ‘Pretoria’ alloy wheels. 0 – 100 km/h is done in 5.1 seconds. LED headlights with dynamic cornering lights and LED tailights with dynamic indicators are also standard. Inside, the Golf R gets R ‘Vienna’ perforated leather seats, 12.3″ Active Info Display and a larger 9.2″ Discover Pro with App-Connect and gesture control. The Golf R also has progressive steering and quad exhaust system.

The R is limited to three body colours: Deep Black, Pure White and Lapiz Blue.
