Local Mazda distributor Bermaz Motor Trading Sdn Bhd has officially revealed the specifications and proposed pricing for locally-assembled versions of the Mazda3 SkyActiv that is due to be launched in the middle of April.

Now available with a five-door hatchback to join the existing four-door sedan, the Kulim-build Mazda3 will feature identical mechanical specifications as per the CBU model and will be offered in three variants priced from RM105,000 to RM125,000.

A hatchback version will be offered too, at RM119,000 in Mid-Plus trim.

From the RM139k CBU model, the CKD 3 is not only significantly more affordable, it also comes with a number of items not previously available. Besides regenerative braking (i-Eloop) and sunroof, all existing equipment from the fully-imported model are carried over, although some are exclusive to the higher models.

The entry-level Mid Spec sedan model understandably drops a few amenities such as auto climate control, satellite navigation, bi-xenon headlamps, LED tail lamps, daytime running lights, and keyless entry; rims are downsized from 18 to 16 inches. Reverse camera is notably gained, however, and the 7-inch touchscreen monitor remains standard in this lowest specification.

Occupying middle ground will be the RM119,000 Mid-Plus Spec hatchback variant which essentially reinstates most of the outgoing CBU model’s existing equipment that was dropped from the Mid Spec sedan.

Spearheading the range from the pointed end will be the RM125,000 High Spec sedan which additionally comes with auto cruise, auto diming rear view mirror, auto wipers, leather upholstery, electric driver seat adjustment, and heads-up display. Also fitted exclusively to the flagship variant is Mazda’s i-ActiveSense package consisting of active high beam control, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and lane departure warning.

All versions of the new Mazda3 CKD will be powered by the same 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G engine carried over from the CBU model. One of the more powerful 2.0-litre NA engines in the segment, the all-aluminium direct injected engine is good for a rated 162hp and 210Nm, sent to the front wheels via Mazda’s in-house 6-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic transmission.
