All-new 2015 Mazda2 SkyActiv makes Malaysian debut
Mazda brings its much vaunted SkyActiv technology to the B-segment with the all-new Mazda2 launched today. Featuring the most scaled-down version of Mazda’s latest SkyActiv platform, the all-new Mazda2 is offered to Malaysians in both sedan and hatchback bodystyles, both priced identically at RM87,956 with insurance.
In line with segment norms, the all-new 2 is powered by a four-cylinder engine displacing 1.5 litres, in this case, the smallest member thus far of Mazda’s SkyActiv engine family. Equipped with a compact and lighter version of the company’s in-house 6-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic transmission, the 2 generates highly respectable outputs of 114hp and 148Nm. An unusual feature, is the fitment of idle stop, the first vehicle in the segment to do so in Malaysia.
Like the CX-5, Mazda6, and Mazda3 that came before it, the latest 2 is the fourth member of Mazda’s model line-up to be fully underpinned by SkyActiv technology, and its appearance is consequently in line with the Kodo – Soul of Motion styling, giving it a close family resemblance to the aforementioned models. Daytime running lights are standard, and headlights are of the regular halogen reflector type.
For its price, the new 2 features highly commendable specifications, with all-round disc brakes, MZD Connect infotainment with GPS, Bluetooth and reverse camera integration, keyless entry with start/stop button, tilt & telescopic steering adjustment, paddle shifters, leather upholstery, auto climate control, stability control, heads-up display, and dual airbags.
The Mazda2 is available in 4 colour choices: Soul Red Metallic, Snowflake White Pearl Mica, Metropolitan Gray and Aluminium Metallic.
