BMW 420i added to 4 Series Coupe range
Having just welcomed the 428i Convertible last week, BMW Group Malaysia has further expanded its options in the 4 Series family with the 420i Coupe offering buyers a sub-RM300k entry point into the realm of BMW 4 Series ownership. The 420i joins the existing 4 Series Coupe range which currently consists of the 428i and 435i.
As its ’20i’ designation suggests, the 420i is powered by BMW’s award-winning 2.0-litre N20 twin-scroll turbo engine in its 184hp/270Nm state of tune. Paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard, the 420i launches from 0 to 100kph in 7.3 seconds before maxing out at 236kph. Fuel economy and carbon dioxide emissions are rated at 6.0 l/100km and 139 g/km respectively on the European combined cycle.
Like any modern BMW, the 420i Coupe comes packed with a suite of BMW EfficientDynamic enhancements for better fuel economy and emissions. Eco Pro mode is standard and comes with a coasting function that disengages the transmission to enable the car to free wheel at speeds between 50 and 160kph whenever the driver lifts off the accelerator. This feature alone, BMW claims, helps trim fuel consumption by up to 5%.
For added sportiness, buyers of the 420i Coupe can spec their cars up with the optional Sport Line package that comes crucially not just with aesthetic enhancements, but also the M Sport suspension that comes with a more aggressive spring, damper, ave and stabilizer tuning. Cars specced with the Sport Line package will also have the Launch Control function integrated to its 8-speed automatic transmission for clean and rapid getaways.
Standard fittings to the 420i Coupe include 17” Star-spoke light alloy wheels, Leather Dakota upholstery, Satin Silver Matt interior trim, and a 6.5” display monitor with BMW Radio Professional as well as USB and Bluetooth.
The optional Sport Line package upsizes to 18” Double-spoke light alloy wheels and carries high-gloss black exterior trim elements. Inside, Sport Line-equipped cars get an even more palatable mixture of materials such as BMW Individual Anthracite, high-gloss black, and highlight trim finishers of Coral Red matt. These cars also get sports seats, sports leather steering wheel with paddle shifters, and a nine-speaker HiFi system.
Pricing of the BMW 420i Coupe on-the-road excluding insurance but with the 3-year/60,000km BMW Service + Repair Inclusive (BS+RI) adds up to RM 299,800.00. The optional Sport Line package adds a further RM20,000 to the list price.
