Porsche 911 Carrera 4S launched in Malaysia

The latest generation Porsche 911 now has the option of all-wheel drive, with the 911 Carrera 4 variants now officially available to Malaysian buyers. Joining the existing Carrera and Carrera S variants, the Carrera 4 range consists of the standard Carrera 4 and the more powerful Carrera 4S, both with the option of two 7-speed transmissions.

Local distributors Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP) has exclusively stocked up the Carrera 4S model with Porsche’s PDK dual-clutch transmission as standard. Buyers seeking any deviation from this combination will be entertained on a per order basis.

Speaking at a launch event held in Sepang last week, SDAP’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Arnt Bayer said, “We are pleased to present the new 911 Carrera 4 models to you today. With its sleek contours, visual panache, and modern silhouette that is unmistakably Porsche, the new 911 Carrera 4S still continues to set new standards for handling performance and driving pleasure. In true Porsche style, it exudes confidence and a good measure of composed self-assurance, a calm but undeniable power and authority.”

In its standard configuration for the Malaysian market, the 911 Carrera 4S is powered by a 3.8-litre flat-six slung behind the rear axle. With some 400hp going to all four wheels, the C4S is able to hit 100kph from rest in 4.1 seconds and achieve claimed top speed of 299kph. Keeping the outputs in check is the latest generation Porsche Traction Management (PTM) system that automatically routes power to the front wheels via a multiplate clutch in the event rear wheel slippage is detected. Maximum switching time is 100 mili-seconds, faster, Porsche claims, than the drive can perceive.

Visually separating the C4S from its RWD siblings are the noticeably flared rear wheel arches being 22mm wider. The rear wheels are similarly wider by 10mm although one might argue that it is the RWD model that would require wider tyres at the rear for better traction. The C4S has a rear track measuring 36mm wider than the standard model. The wider rear end of the C4S is further accentuated by a horizontal light panel that visually connects the port and starboard tail lights. The panel illuminates at night giving it a unique signature appearance that marks it out from the standard Carrera models.

The new 911 Carrera 4S is priced at RM970,000 before on-road costs, but inclusive of a four-year factory warranty and free service package.
