Volvo XC90 now with new T5 Executive variant
Launched in 2002, the Volvo XC90 is hardly what you would call an up-to-date product these days. Its successor is currently under development but it is far from being production-ready. Unless Volvo plans to abandon the lucrative large luxury SUV segment, the current model will have to soldier on, and amazingly, it is able to do so competitively.
Volvo Car Malaysia has just introduced a new variant of the XC90, dubbed the T5 Executive, priced at RM368,888 on-the-road before insurance. Being a member of Volvo’s previous generation models, the T5 badge of the new variant therefore does not signify the presence of Ford’s 240hp EcoBoost engine under hood as per models such as the S60 and S80. Instead, the XC90 T5 Executive draws power from the proven 2.5-litre turbocharged five-cylinder engine with 210hp on tap at 5,100rpm.
Being a Volvo, the XC90 T5 Executive comes with a wide range of safety kit that includes Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC), Roll Stability Control (RSC) and Rollover Protection System (ROPS), WHIPS (Whiplash Protection System), SIPS (Side Impact Protection System), IC (Inflatable Curtain), integrated child booster cushions, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
Amenities in the cabin include a grocery bag holder and a twelve-speaker, premium sound, entertainment system with Bluetooth audio streaming, six-disc CD changer and an auxiliary port. The interior is trimmed in a mixture of plush leather upholstery on the seat and inserts with wood inlays on the dashboard.
Outside, aesthetic enhancements include chrome mirror covers, LED driving lights, new front bumper bar and 19” Galateia aluminium rims. The XC90 is available in four distinct colours – Ice White, Ember Black, Electric Silver and Twilight Bronze.
