Malaysian Rally 2012 – Karamjit wins in Kangar

by -

National rally ace Karamjit Singh has won the Kangar round of the Malaysian Rally 2012 championship after a dominant performance that saw him emerge as fastest driver for both days of the rally. Save for a couple of hiccups here and there, the Flying Sikh was largely untroubled over two days of action.

Together with co-driver Nicole Ann Gill in their Mitsubishi Lancer, Karamjit covered the 125km / 16 stage rally in a total time of 1:20:50.7. Coming in second were New Zealander Brian Green and partner Fleur Pedersen in a Subaru Impreza in 1:22:50.03. Third place went to Muhammad Rafiq Udhaya of the MRU Racing team who clocked 1:26:15.9.

Next leg of the 2012 Malaysian Rally will take place in Johor Bahru, and it will co-incide with the Asia Pacific Rally Championship (APRC) as well. Karamjit will continue his challenge there, but in a newly-purchased three-year old Mitsubishi Lancer acquired by his team GSR Repsol Air Asia.

“I am looking forward to driving the new car and it will be a totally refreshing experience. I have not test driven it yet but I am sure it will be fast,” said Karamjit.

China’s Fan Fan, winner of the APRC leg in JB last year, will also feature, bringing his million ringgit Mitsubishi Lancer to compete. The Beijing-based driver was supposed to have competed in Kangar as well, but his car arrived late due to problems with our customs department.
