Burns better for more miles and it keeps engines cleaner

Leading energy company Shell is known for their racing diesel fuel so they are keen to demonstrate what they have learnt on the tracks to the average motorist and the result is their diesel with economy formula.

Additives an detergents help the fuel to mist better for combustion and keeps the engine cleaner for longer.

According to Shell boss, Datuk Mokhzani Abdul Wahab, the fuel is sold at the same price as the old fuel because the company is able to absorb the extra cost of the new formulation. They don’t want to further burden the people as fuel prices were recently increased.

I think Shell should be commended for their effort but I also would like to see the Government legislating better quality diesel fuels for passenger car – they can let the price of these cleaner diesels float higher than the dirtier commercial vehicle grade diesels. It is time we take advantage of the fuel economy advantages of diesel, especially at a time when conservation of energy is on everyone’s mind.

  1. what exactly is this new diesel? euro 1/2/3 or is it euro 4? what are the technicalities in this ‘new’, or is this just advetising speak and gimmicks?

  2. cvl,

    it’s not Euro anything,

it is still the old Malaysian standard but has a bit more detergent to help keep engine clean and this, they claim would improve the mileage…

heck since they are selling it at the same price, I don’t really care what they want to call it,

Is it a marketing gimmick? well they did change the formulation, even if it is minutely….

  3. Seriously, what’s the difference? I’ve been using Shell Diesel for quite some time, and just filled up this so called “new formulation” a couple of days back. Still same black smoke spewing out of the exhaust on hard acceleration.

It’s high time we get Euro 3 at least, for the price that private vehicles are paying for diesel fuel.

  4. Well I read about it in CBT last weekend so I thought I’d give it a go. I usually Caltex and it usually is about 350km per RM 100, which is about 3/4 tank. So in went RM 100 worth of this Shell diesel, done 57Km and I have used 1/4 of my tank. Doesn’t seem to work for me it seems……….I’ll stick to Caltex after this.

  5. I read the comment from Adrian with interest and about fuel efficiency. Our company is the regional distributor for the De Bug diesel microbial decontaminator treatment systems designed for “all diesel engines.” It prevents contamination of diesel fuel. When the fuel is clean, it combusts more efficiently – thus, reduce fuel consumption, extends the life of fuel filter, reduce emission of black smokes etc… De Bug decontaminators have been in the international market for the past 30 years and are from New Zealand.
De Bugs are used by NATO during the Gulf War and has NATO Parts Numbers. Other key users include many ministry of defences around the world such as US Coastguards, British Navy, British Customs, Singapore Navy, Fiian Navy, Port Authority of Singapore, Singapore and Korean Airlines, New York Hospitals, American Online, SHELL New Zealand, etc…
