No, the 2.2. The one I'm thinking of buying.

The build quality is good. The view is nice up there and the cabin feels much more like a family car than a trades man's work vehicle. The big question now is how to finance it. My current thinking is that I'll sell my Accord and buy a Ranger and a small car (maybe a Swift). That'll probably change by the time I go to bed tonight and 3 times during the day tomorrow.

Still, no rush. It's not even confirmed that we'll need a second car yet.

as to 4wd truck, test drive few more then you can get a better "feel".... otherwise you may want to stick to sedan...

Finally you are getting it!

Here's another thing for you. If you want to talk to all the kids who run across traffic, that's up to you, another foolish idiotic suggestion!

Once you sit behind the wheel, you owe a duty of care to anyone on the road, more so to kids. If knock a kid who runs right across, you are at fault. The onus is on you to have sufficient skills to drive that particular vehicle safely.

This is an unstable vehicle and therefore got out of control, not my fault, is NO defence! Anunstable vehicle will not get road worthiness.

Don't kid yourself about the accident, if you are asking for it!

no sure how this discussion derailed and maybe that's why NS highway now erected with cow-signs. hati-hati, maybe highway also subjected kids crossing road in the future.....peace

Using your logic, if one drive carefully, a Mercedes and BMW will never get into a accident.
I prefers to use my head than follow the crowd. After all, it is my money and not theirs.

That's good advice. I've not looked past the Ford Ranger and if I do by a pickup truck, it'll be that one. It would be good to test drive some of the others to get a feel for what they are like to drive, though.

heard (have not got a chance to test drive) new ranger has much better NVH than other trucks and I did my homework comparing specs (on paper) and indeed ranger stands out from the rest. Check out new Mazda BT-50 that share fair bit of ranger technology ...the truck with "smiley" face and "tear-drops" (shape) lights or Chevy Colorado of the recent releases. For wrong reasons, I like (in fact enjoy) to "roar" of the diesel engine and giving different driving pleasure...

Hi..

Car or truck?...depends...what you like or want. I'm a previous owner of a Waja, now have a Hilux 2.5..non VNT nor intercooler as a daily driver.

My input.

Maintenance cost of a truck i.e. my Hilux. Engine oil 7ltrs..i buy 18ltrs pail castrol crb turbo cf4 for rm170 and 2 oil filters..rm16 each (ori). Manual says..engine oil cf4 spec..10k interval oil change. So the 18ltrs oil will last me 2.5 oil change or 6-7 months. Quite economical for a 2.5 turbo. Air filter..ori denso thailand...about rm60-70. LSD oil...RM22/ltr..ori toyota. Requires 3 bottles I think. ATF..no need to change says the manual. The diesel filter...I'm not sure how much. Never changed before.. smile_tongue.gif
Timing belt set...those dayco brand..rm270 a set. Cheap lorrr. Ori toyota i'm not sure..never checked. Brake pads...rm140 per pair..ori toyota. Ori toyota coolant..rm18 per bottle. I stock a few just in case. Those bridgestone duelers...rm 340 at kedai papan klang...15 inches...so ok la..not so expensive. Those 16 inches on tritons, dmax...i dunno how expensive. Dont want to know...scared.

Roadtax..rm800++ a year...phewww. There's a slight headache there..compared to waja just rm90. Toll..same as sedan..so no worries.

Fuel consumption?...rm60 of petronas diesel gets me 400 kms...80% highway...Elite. Exactly same as my waja 4g18p.

Ride comfort..of course la sedan wins...big time. All trucks are bumpy and hard due to its suspension set up ...hard absorbers and leaf springs. Its meant to be a work horse remember. Want comfort...get a sedan or mpv. Please..please...please..if you drive a truck...any truck...don't take corners like you drive a sedan. They are not designed to do so. Use your brains guys

But most importantly...i like my hilux. Enjoy driving it everyday. Its like...rewarding yourself la. Its what I have been wanting.

Why hilux? Durability, maintenance cost, resale value, spare support, simple technology..even my regular mechanic can maintain it. Don't want headache...got to send only to authorised service centre la..bla..bla...its expensive. It shouldnt be expensive if you know what to do.

I think there are reasons why the Hilux sale is always highest...every year...for how many years already. So the sales figure speaks for itself.

So..happy hunting man

Kena TAPAU everyday to work....

I think a truck can make you feel "secure" when on the roads. This is especially good for women drivers who have a higher tendency of getting attention from road bullies. So, if your wife drives a truck, she will feel a higher sense of security as compared to driving a sedan which is smaller. Trucks last longer too because of its durability as a heavy duty vehicle. However, now sedans also are high in quality like BMW, Mitsubishi and even local made Proton is keeping up with them.

Does anyone know where I can get my Triton rear seat modified for more reclination? The rear bench backrest looks modifiable to recline more with the addition of some brackets without any welding, so the mod is reversible.
However I can't get anyone to make the brackets for me as all the steel workshops have moved out of my area.
I will appreciate it very much if anyone has done this before and point me in the right direction.
A more reclining backrest will be much more comfortable for rear passengers on long drives, 4 hours or more, making my ride the most ideal car.

I've just taken the family to Kuantan in my Ranger. It's the first time I've taken the Ranger on a long journey.

I took it off road to Jerangkang Waterfall and got a bit lost in the jungle. We crossed some rivers and traveled quite far into the jungle. The Ranger performed brilliantly. It was sure footed and never once felt like it was struggling. Mud, slopes, rivers, all easy. I'm not sure how to compare it to other trucks or to grade the difficulty of the track so that's about as much feedback as I can give.

In terms of refinement, not so good. I felt very tired after driving for 3 hours. I got vibrations through the steering wheel when I went over 130kmph. I've done the same trip in my Accord and it was a breeze. Not so much in the Ranger. Are all pick-ups like that?
