in my opinion, the fire extinguisher is only useful under the following condition:
1. Still in working condition - some (all?) model need to send for periodic checking / refill.
I checked my fire extinguisher.
It is safe for up to 60 deg Celcius. So if left in burning fire will explode I guess but not left in car.
And there is an expiry date. Mine is good for 4 years.
There's also a pressure bar, make sure it's withing the working pressure bar as stated on the fire extinguisher.

is exploded in the car, manufacturers defend it stating it was on the label. no one manufacturer actually produce it for vehicles safe?

I had one in my boot fo rmore than 7yrs. Never explode, but I'm not sure whether still can use or not.
Allo friend. If you have an accident and can't get out of your car, and it is on fire, what's the use of it being in the boot? Please keep it within reach of the driver. Under seat tray would be best but at worst, should be in the glove box.

If I was trapped in my car and there's a fire, my 1st priority is to get out rather than fight the fire first. Flee first then fight later. You could lose precious moments fighting the fire 1st which you may not win with your small glovebox fire extinguisher.
I think he's keeping it in the boot to be a good Samaritan, to help other people's car on fire
I think it's better to have a device to break the window to escape first then later think about a fire extinguisher if own safety is priority.

Good idea to have a device to break the windows but how will the police view such a device? What kind of device will do this and yet not be considered a weapon?
Of course, flee first if you can, but if not, a fire extinguisher is better than nothing I feel.
