consumption wise, my 740's kerb weight is 1800KG and with auto tranny.
RM70 from house to house in JB to Ipoh without refuelling and did not
touch red line too. Of couse for town city use the fuel consumption is
higher than highway driving. Cheers.

What should I check for if I'm inspecting for GL or GLT/SE model? I
believe when you start the engine it will shag the body as well, for the
older model?! Which condition will tell you this car going to make ur head
bold?
Could some one list down all the 240 series and the cc as I saw in the
add. is like rojak and very confusing eg. GLE, GLi, GLM.... bla..bla...!
Thanks.

preferbably a mechanic whom knows abt conti car on your quest. saw star
paper quite a few updated regularly(think the advert is diff fm pen) for
klang valley,or look at star on line or even autoworld. don't rush in if
hv not driven one before as your heart will take over your brain after yr
first drive...shop around and am sure you are able to find one...

shops are damn shitty...and will bankrupt you. Try to buy 1 owner car or
from enthusiasts. Absolutely MUST take a trusted mechanic around to
inspect the car. Most of all be patient ...there are many good ones for
sale.
Someone I know was selling his 240 in Perak, 84 model asking RM16k
neg...but the car is mint and looks and drives like new, we`re talkin`
concours condition here.
There were infinite number of 240 variations...to list them all here
would be difficult but generally in M`sia the following models were most
popular:
83-87 240 GL 2.3 carb (some 2.0 inj too I think)
88-92 240GL 2.0 inj or 2.3 carb (both look the same)
GLE/ GLi means its a 2.0 inj (actually no such model as GLi: this one is
the salesman own grandmothers designation)
GLT is a 2.3 inj
92/93 SE and CLASSIC I think were all 2.3 inj (does anyone know for sure?)
83-87 cars had the flat boot and big chrome grill, bulging bonnet; 88
onwards flat bonnet and grill, curved boot.
If you`re concerned bout r/tax get a 89-92 GL with 2.0 inj and manual.
Cheap tax/ insurance and enough power. Should be bout RM9k thereabouts.

you wrote - 'I believe when you start the engine it will shag the body as
well, for the older model?'.
I laughed when reading this. How does an engine shag the body? Ha ha ha,
just joking, jangan marah. It's a groovy, shagadelic 240 then.
anyway, hope you will find a good 240. take a mechanic with you to
inspect or take to FA, Penang to have a check up pre-purchase (for a
nominal fee). if the dealer is not cooperating in sending the car for a
check up, then he may be hiding something.
regards.

$$$$ to restore to her mint condition.When I bought my 740GLE, I looked 5
areas which are the engine, auto tranny box,rust/corrosion, body work,
elctrical and service history. The rest of the parts are serviceable or
replaceable. No sweat. You see my 740 was serviced with this workshop
since day one
back in 1990 even until today.
Good condition used cars never come cheap and I must admit that I paid a
premium for it but, it is worthwhile. No rust, no accident, no engine
problem, no tranny problem. May be you can take a trip down to JB and see
for yourself how I bring my 740 to her mint condition and tell me whether
it is worth the premium or not. As for full loan availability, cars that`s
above 10 years old can`t qualify for loan especially for Contis unless the
finance companies know you well enough. Cheers.

Yeah I tought so but you can see in the thestar-on-line some people
offering 240GL(M)'85 for RM4k, 240GL(A)'90 for RM9800k!

By the way, I'm going to view 240GL(A)'90 this Sat. and the saleman offer
for RM13K, is it resonable or what? As you know over here Penang,
everything is expensive!!
I would love to view your 740 but not until a have a confident car to
drive down

P/S: Guys should I go for 240GL(i)'90 manual or auto? Price between RM9600
to RM9800k in KL or same model, same year, auto in Penang for RM13k?
