lately, i face this problem... when in traffic jam during noon, panas
terik, jam summore, the engine temperature will increase... but not to the
red zone, quite high from normal operating temperature.. the problem is, if
i parked and off the engine for a while, let say to buy something when the
temperature quite high, susah nak start balik... i have to press
accelerator dalam sikit and crank for a longer period of time... and 'low
fuel pressure' warning will light up until rev the engine... this will only
happen when the engine is hot... morning start was very easy, one crank
will do... any suggestion???

zhafri, check out your carb esp the diaphragm & the butterfly valve. Hot
running could also be due to the wrong timing settings. Good luck.

Zhafri,

Masyaa Allah ... patutlah you punya FC jimat sangat. When fuel pressure
is low, means that there is not enough fuel delivered to combustion
chamber, air to fuel ratio always greater than 14.7:1 (more than
stoichiometric condition and LAMBDA greater than 1, thus more heat
produced.

1. On traffic jam, no flowing air dissipate the excessive heat, all
excessive heat (due to running lean) will be absorbed by water cooling,
overheating as a result.

2. When you got speed, part of excessive heat will be dissipated by air
flowing through engine, hence water cooling absorb less heat, cooling
system will come back to normal.

Please check the three parts of the fueling systems : FUEL PUMP, FUEL
FILTER and FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR for faulty conditions. For V940 the
fuel pressure system is 43 psi, don't know for V240 - could be at least
30 psi, I'll check for you (Insyaa Allah boleh dapat).

Clogged fuel filter also cause the reduction of fuel supply, engine
running LEAN as a result. Sure that you are happy with your FC (14
cent/km), but soon or later, you have to pay more or even higher for your
engine damage.

BE CAREFULL WITH THE SIDE IMPACT, if you don't have a separate oil
transmission/gear cooler, then be prepare also to change the ATF or gear
oil as soon as you settle the fuel pressure system. This is the SNOW BALL
impacts.

Hurry up to rectify your running LEAN condition and don't wait until your
piston ring ... berkecai ... tak perasan.

If the fuel system pressure OK, then check as Uncle Cap48 said ... the
timing setting and also check the Fuel Pump RELAY, sometimes this RELAY
give an intermitten weak current supplied to Fuel Pump - especially on
hot condition (already faulty).

For Volvo carbs, do they inject fuel (from the resevoir with float) when
you pump the accelerator ?

uncle vol940,

haiyo, don't frighten me.... uhuhuhuhuh... yups, i have to agree that FC is
becoming less and fantastic nowadays... my dad also suspected the fuel
system... he is very confident on clogged fuel filter (never been changed).
..unfortunately, i'll only be able to attend the car for next month (tgh
final exam, takde masa nak pi workshop sampaila next month)...hopefully
nothing happens...focus on EXXAM>..

take out the distributor cap and spray it with WD40.Let it soak for 3
minutes. Then wipe off with a cloth. That should help.

Ensure your plug cables are still in working order. When was the last time
you changed the cables?.
