scud,

I've test-drove the Smart 4-4 as well and my feedback is exactly what
you've said. Powerful engine, good torque and great gearbox. Nearly wanted
to place booking for this car after the test drive, but refrained myself
from doing so (see if NAP has any effect on the pricing)

Also, I would just like to highlight that driving this car in Auto mode
has it's technique due to the clutchless gearbox, if not, you'll feel very
jerky or not smooth at all. I think the salesman for Smart is quick to
highlight this nowadays (must be complains from potential customers
previously)

hello,

Tested the smart forfour too, such a great car.

first, i think it is the most basic smart forfour in the world: manual
rear windows, look-like-local radio etc.

what i love about it is all that you have said. what i do not like (only
one i think) about it is the tyres are a very noisy, they should have
fitted it with better set of tyres, i think. i

i also think Smart Forfour is smart from the beginning.

1) anyone tried kicking the door? try it next time, i think you will break
your leg first before you even see a dent on the door (yes the plastic
door). these plastic are strong and apparently cheap to produce (but for
sure C&C / Daimler Msia will exploit it`s monopoly position to price it at
a premium).

2) a light but strong and stable car + a small (relatively high torque)
engine complimented by manual gear box hence not having those power loss
caused by torque converter. to me, it is simply efficient.

3) service interval of 20,000 km, super.

4) first car i have seen giving buyers 30+ color scheme (don`t know if i
got the number right, but we all agree there are lots of colors to choose
from)

6) the adjustable rear seats gives very good leg room to rear passengers
if boot is not used.

i just think it is great, greater if we are owning it as 2nd / spare /
wkend car.

price - i think it`s like owning a lifestyle la, hence have to pay more?
but the handling / safety / smartness may worth that much too.

Are buyers of the Smart Car as dumb as bikers who dump RM120k on a
vehicle that is unsafe and not weatherproof, as dumb as some who pays
RM50K for an Amplifier, as dumb as some with pools in their houses which
they use twice a year, as dumb others who pay for a really high spec PC
only to surf the net and do spreadsheets, as dumb as some who pay three
times the amount to fly 1st class, as dumb as some who pays millions for
a 20,000 sq ft bungalows but only stay indoors....etc etc....

Or are those who comment without actually knowing/understanding the full
picture dumber???

Those guys who can afford to buy 50K amps, have a pool in the house buy
million dollar cars cannot be too dumb because they are smart enough to
make such money in the first place. What's the point of wealth
accumulation without balance and enjoy the fruits of your labour prvided
it does not bankrupt yourself and you have set aside for rainy days? Why
do we have to judge what others do with their own money?

No need to con no banks into lending money. At that level of wealth, the
come knocking at your doors to borrow from them. It has always been like
that in the beginning as it has now and in the future. Just make sure you
are on the greener side of the pasture in life, where you made it on
your own or simply, born into it.

Smart are great cars but definitely for those with the excess. (in
Malaysia, any way) Nothing dumb about having millions in net worth and
putting in what amounts to peanuts for them in getting a for 2 or for 4.

If you nhave to con a bank or need to borrow, or spend 30% of your income
on instalment to buy Smart, this car is definitely not for you.

The naysayers of "smart is dumb" is finally proven right! Well, smart 4-
4 is no more. Congrats to all those who bought the smart-4-4, it is
truly unique in more sense than 1 now.
