Guys,

Started this new tread for the benefit of new Savvy owners who might want
to know what brand of oil with the minimum recommended SAE 10W-30 that’s
available. Since the W rating applies to freezing temp & the second value
to boiling temp, its best to select oils based on the 2nd value instead.

On my end found the following:

Fully Synthetic:
1. Mobil 1 (10W-30, 5W-30, 0W-30)
2. Chemlube Premium Gold (10W-30)
3. Petronas Syntium 5000 SM (0W-30)

Semi-Synthetic:
1. Caltex Havoline Formula (10W-30)
2. Petronas Syntium 800 SL (10W-30)
3. Caltex Havoline Energy (5W-30)
4. Esso Ultra (5W-30)

Mineral:
1. Petronas Mach 5 SL (10W-30)

I think for cost/performance reasons, most Savvy owners will go with Semi-
Synthetic.

Thanks for your informative subject on oil for Savvy. Should have posted
earlier as i have just serviced my Savvy on Saturday.

I used Petronas Syntium 1000SL 15W/50, the SC didn't have the Syntium 5000
SM (0/30W).

But i think due to our hot and humid weather conditions, oil with /50
would be better. Even though the manual specified as minimum /30, i think
its for european whether. Anyway its just my opinion.

I thought that since it's a Renault engine they would be using 'ELF'
lubricants. So what did the service center recommend on your first
service?

Sorry for the delayed post but i'm sure you're still gonna change oil when
the 2nd service is up. Anyway there are still many new owners out there
thats gonna get their Savvy soon. Hopefully this will help them decide.

Fully syn oil will not water down (thin) in the heat. So the SAE specs
should be right.

khimfoh, u r using the same grade oil as bigger cc car such as wira and so.
which is not recommended.

i thought savvy recommended oil is SAE 30? suitable range of oil are

0W - 30, 5W - 30 and 10W - 30.

15W is too thick from my humble opinion

The problem was that during the time when i was servicing my Savvy, the SC
didn't have the 10w/30 based oil.

a 10w-50 oil will compromise your FC and responsiveness of the 1.2 engine.
The SC can't cope with the high no. of car. Now most cars serviced at 10K
interval.
For good engine protection, extended drain and avoiding sludge build up.
A full synthetic is a must.

Actually, i'm a bit blur on the oil grade issues. In your opinion what
would be the optimum engine oil grade for a car like Savvy ?
