coolznick,

define what high maintenance is to you.

If you compare the maintenance required from a sportscar and that of a
normal car, yes it can be high.

there are drivers and there are driver enthusiast. (99% are drivers & only few are drivers
enthusiast. )

there is a difference also; those who "appreciate" & those who hammer down the pedal. Big Smile

maintaining any go faster car is always higher thn your daily car (if you vrrooom often).

safety is paramount to chaps like us, we arent likely not to go for cheap tyres or cheap brake
pads for the sake of saving a few hundred. while we may not indulge in top-of-range stuffs/
brands; we know there is no compromise on safety. (which is why we hone our temperamental
skills on track auto X.)

changing engine oil is similar to any car , well unless on the average one only uses normal
mineral dino type, there are better advantages for sport cars to go synthetic. (if this is "cost" to
one).

coolznick,

from your postings, I would guess that you are more of a car
enthusiast rather than a passionate driver.

For you, the car has to be cool, maybe even unique in some extraordinary
way. The technical aspects, the physical aspect and the brand perception
must be "cool" especially to other people. Also, chances are you will
change your car every 1-2 years if you have the resources until you grow
older and your preferences are more solid.

Without knowing more about your own tastes I can only offer you the
following suggestions:
1. No RX8 for you because generally rotaries are too hard to take care
for non-technical people.
2. Do not choose cars that are hard to drive / misbehave at the limit.
3. Choose a "touring" car or roadster.
4. of the trinity "power-handling-comfort", the highest factor is power
followed by comfort.
5. "Sporty" cars may be good for you because you dont desire extreme
handling.
6. a BMW E36 M3 may not be your kind of car because BMW E36s are just
too common and the looks are too plain.
7. a continental convertible such as the S40 converible, may interest
you though I think you are currently still a Japanese car kind of guy.
8. Stop thinking about maintenance if you want power

Koolspyda,

2zz-ge:
is that 2nd or 3rd gear reaching 110kph (70mph)?

2ZZ on Grattan Raceway:

Ish... its a sad day if I ever let an old generation golf outrun me like
that... but understandable in this case coz that golf must have some
killer turbo and output in excess of 350HP. And the MRS driver is rather
conservative on braking for such a lightweight car.

Want to see a fast MRS?

cnick.......abuga had given to you some very good suggestions and input.
You need to identify what sort of car with the right budget to suits you.
If budget is never a problem, then, you are spoilt for choices. I relly
have no comments on RX8 or MRS or S2000 as i had never had the chance to
drive 1 or even sitting as the a passenger.

But I did had chance to drove a Celica SST that claimed to have 190 hp.
Being a midsize car, I find that the Celica is really underpower, but
have very good handling. Smooth gear shift, and very willing when
approaching corners. I will give it a 7/10 for handling, and 6/10 for
power.

As for the 350Z, I had driven 1 time but it had a bolt on Twin Turbo
Charger installed and belonged to my friend. This was in Australiaa year
ago. It was really and awesome machine, with a dyno hp of 388 on wheel.
The 3rd gear pulls all the way to 190kmh mark. And a topspeed of 295kmh
(he had override the speed limiter with an RSM). Being a modded 350Z, I
cant tell what will be the stock standard like as I had never driven a
stock 350Z b4. The 350Z had very good stability on straight, but i find
that its a bit twitchy on corners.

I do owned a Caldina, and its not a sports car. Its a touring wagon. I
had tweaked it a little bit, with a dyno hp of 245 on wheel. Being a
fulltime 70/30 all wheel drive, it takes corner well, and very willing.
Being a wagon, it still lose out to cars like EVO or Scooby interm of
tight cornering. But i will still rate it a 7/10 for good corners
handling. And being a damn heavy car, there are no doubts that it cruise
on straight road with comfort and stableness. You feel like 110kmh when u
actually touching 150kmh. I rate it a 8/10 interm of comfort. And being a
wagon, it had very roomy and cosy interior, with full Recaro sport seats
for front and recaro bucket seats for rear. As abuga said, it runs on the
well known 3SGTE engine, and the latest generation CT 26 turbine. As for
speed, my ride can easily reached the 180kmh mark on 3rd, and pull all
the way to 240kmh on the 4th. Thou its just a 4 auto tranny with super
ECT, it had got very good gearing ratio. The handling of the car on that
high speed, i would say that its commendable. I will rate hight speed +
handling at 6/10. I would say that overall, the Caldina is a performer,
losing slightly to and all out power car such as Evo and Scooby. But
these 2 will never have the same comfort as the Caldina.

I am not promoting the caldina, but as a owner, these are what i feel
about it. I find that its a very fun car to drive.

But then again, you decide what is best for yourself.
