Hi,
My wife drives a city idsi 2003 encounters jerking prob recently.
When she pushes the pedal slightly at the speed of 40-50km/h to gain
higher speed, the car jerks significantly for once before accelerating.
It happens quite frequent whenever she makes a turn at a junction at the
speed of around 30-40km/h. It jerks for once after the turn before
accelerating further when she pushes the pedal.
I don't think its the spark plug prob coz hey are still quite
fresh. Could it be the gearbox prob? She just changed the gearbox oil but
not through Honda Service Centre. (It's a Halvoline gold coloured
container priced at RM33/litre) Plz advice.

Did u mention, just changed gearbox oil? If yes, is the technician or
mechanic looks like pro? After draining gearbox, there is a method used
to fill back the ATF oil into gearbox. Those who did not comply to that
method, the oil has not fully run in filling up gaps in the gearbox. For
conventional gearbox, symptom is jerk n takes longer time to shift gear
or need to reheat 1st.
As time pass, the prob will solve once the run-in process is complete.
Meaning the ATF is spread all over covering all necessary parts. Same
goes to brake oil. If not properly flush in, it looks like the brake is
not functioning.

City iDSI gearbox need only a special blend of fluid - CVFT, it's a BIG mistake to use other than that.
Best of luck!

Change to Honda CVTF.
For both i-DSI and VTEC models (Jazz and City)

thanks for the replies..
Yeah..just changed it about 1 month ago n the prob keeps
worsening..I'm not sure whether its a normal atf but it works fine with
my PV6 and my fren is using it in his 2005 Accord as well..
Will change to the CVTF atf then..where to get it? or which
service centre provides the service, around subang or shah alam
area ..thanks

City has got a problem with its gearbox. Please take care of it because if
it is spoilt, it will cost you a bomb. I heard of many with faulty gearbox.
My wife city has similar problem. You need to change the gear oil a few
times to flush out the dirt in the gearbox. Make sure you use honda
original cvt gearbox oil.

Change it at Honda service center & cost you $100 with labor charge.
Advice to change it every 20k km. City need to use Honda CVTF which is
specially blend.
My frenz who drive City 2003 in S'pore did not face the problem. Outside
workshop also know need to use this kind of gear oil.

normal ATF doesn't suit honda city idsi/vtec. as the others mentioned, it
have to be flush(depends on the condition). Please take note ONLY HONDA
CVTF is used for city idsi/vtec as its gearbox are not the same as PV6,
accord and other model.
Please send to a reputable/knowledgable mechanic about honda city. I
owned a city idsi 2004 and my wife is driving this car now, but i am the
one who did the servicing. The last service was done by non-Honda SC in
Jln 222, the owner used to work honda sc. If you need his contact, please
pm me.
All the best!
